[Streamyx] Checking Actual Line Speed

Hi all,

I just recently got a Streamyx line to my house and I'm wondering how and where do I test for the effective/actual download and upload rate? I'm trying to compare this to TM's claims for the 1.0Mbps line, which, if I'm not mistaken has an effective rate of 1Mbps for down and up is 384kbps, correct?

I'm asking this as I'm using a Riger modem and I noticed that in the Home screen, it says that my down speed is 512kbps and upload is 256kbps. Does this mean that I'm not getting 1.0Mbps?

Some help would really be appreciated, thanks.

[Help] Ubuntu

Alright, so I installed Ubuntu 6.06 LTS the other day, and I can't mount my External HD, which is connected to my laptop via USB. This is odd, considering that the HD could be mounted and read when I used Ubuntu in LiveCD mode.

What the error is saying is that I can't mount the drive because I have to mount it using root. I have no idea what this means.

Help, please?
