Hi there,

As the title, I am really curious about life science consultant jobs as I view this as a possible area I would want to venture in..
I googled keywords and some companies came up such as Accenture, PwC, EY, McKinsey, BCG, Bain..

Many searches came up with recruitment consultancy (headhunting), but I am more keen to learn about what is it like for management/business consultants in the life science/pharmaceutical/hospital field?

P/S: yes, I am a science graduate who is stuck at my next step...but i am sure i dont want lab work and preferably not pharma sales, hence I am trying to research more about other opportunities.

Science grad into beauty industry

Hi people,

Really interested to know the what's and how's for a science grad to enter the beauty industry?
I believe this is a common concern, especially for girls

Although I'm from a science background, I cannot see myself settling down for a career here, at least not for the near future.
I wish to use these few years to persue my passion - beauty and cosmetics.

I even thought of finding careers such as cosmetic scientist to try to blend in both science and cosmetics.. however it's another separate degree so I'm afraid that's not in my consideration right now... I'm more to trying practical positions or jobs.. internships also maybe?

I have a senior friend (Business background) who is doing so well in a korean cosmetic brand company in the marketing department.
Although she's always tired as heck, I can see the passion in her eyes. That's what I am after!!!

Not confined into marketing positions only.. I really want to hear from those who're experienced in joining a field thats less or even NO relation to your degree.

PS: I do think of settling down in a science-related 9-5pm job, but definitely not now. I really want to join companies like OPI, Loreal, Laneige etc..

Any advices/insights?

Biomed into options BUT lab 2016

Hi all,y

I am currently a final year student in Biomedical Science, however I think landing the FIRST job determines a lot for a graduate.

To cut this short, I am not considering options in the laboratory department, purely because I don't find that environment suitable for my personality. (meaning, that'd be the last choice)
I also talked to seniors and working professionals about their insights of hospital settings job, and that sort of confirmed myself that I would not be happy in a confined laboratory doing tests.

Before anyone starts lecturing me, I took this course because I am interested in human health. Also, I wanted to be an obstetrician but the fees and duration are simply out of the map.
And as I grow older, I realize the payslip matters a lot too. I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT FRESH GRADUATES ARE NOT REALLY QUALIFIED TO TALK ABOUT THE SALARY.. but I am definitely considering it.

So, all in all, I am interested to venture into other options as my career. Some may say that I can start in lab and change the job later...
But If I set my goals now, I would be able to skip that step and save a lot years of time... right?

On a side note, I took some business introduction units as electives apart from my biomed major (Finance, Administration, Accounts).. not really sure if these will be an advantage in the resume/interview?
Also, I admire jobs with more communication and people-oriented, mainly because of my personality..
Just for an example, I find education counselling jobs rather interesting. I would be 10 times happier to talk about what biomed students do or what are the expectations of the course, instead of isolating myself in the laboratory studying microorganisms and cells...

I am even more determined to venture into something else as I am currently volunteering in a hospital.
Here, I talked to the clinical staffs and tagged along in their daily operations... I really am suffocating in this solemn environment..

So if you are kind enough to share your thoughts WITHOUT THE SARCASM cause I believe many biomed students have the same feeling like me.. that the science field does not really suit us..
I also thought of the academic line - which would definitely need me to persue masters and beyond.
Or the medical equipment sales line - which I don't have interest in
Or the cosmetics line - quite interested in this field, however I have not encountered any relevant information about the job scope that a biomed graduate could land upon..
or the R&D line - which I'm quite sick of doing since my course has plenty.. but this would be a better option for me compared to wet lab.

I am also aware that my knowledge in this field is way below my peers, and that is mostly affected by my passion in this. I feel the worst when it comes to solid science knowledge, despite my identity as a biomed student.
I overestimated my passion in science, so I hope to listen to your stories and don't overestimate my ability and waste 10 more years down the road. Thanks

P/S: I also plan to work in other countries since our currency is horribly decreasing.. probably Singapore or Australia since they're neighbouring countries.
PLEASE tell me more about your situation if you're in those countries/ application procedures.
I hope to start things early!!

Student Exchange Opportunity to Australia

I am a 3rd semester student who applied to a student exchange to Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia for my 4th semester ( intended to start in July 2015).

However, there has been multiple complications in the communcation between my university and QUT in terms of subject mapping, schedule arrangements, and etc. It is killing me softly.

It's a big deal for my family and I because we would not be able to afford my full time degree overseas.
But this opportunity is so precious as my tuition fee is in local currency and I am fortunate to be on local scholarship.
Thus, it will lessen my family's financial burden in a huge scale!

Back to my concern. I would appreciate if anyone of you can give me advices on what I should take note of.
For my application, I tried to get updates from my university exchange department but they expressed to be helpless as the problem lies on the rare response from QUT.

I am extremely, terribly agitated and worried. Before this, I was devastated when my 1st try to apply into another overseas university ended up in vain due to miscommunication also.

Please, if you have done student exchange to overseas, or even better, this instituition.. It would be extraordianry news for me to hear from your and your experiences - be it the life style there or any solutions to my case.

Biomedical Science market in Malaysia

Since I am going to study Biomed science degree, this is one of my concerns.
Maybe it's too early to think about it, haha..
but heyy i hope many can help.

Who knows, there are more students out there who frustrate upon this too.

As everybody knows, Biomedical Science is not a very recognized profession here in Malaysia.
I don't know about other countries, but that's what I heard from the counsellors while enquiring..

So do help?
Any facts will do..
Job overviews... Salary range.. Your own feelings..
Jobs prospects.. ( besides the common ones like lab manager or lab this and that.. lol )
Or your advices to those on this path as well..?

Taylor's Lakeside for degree

Hello!
I wish to know more about Taylor's University Subang Lakeside campus.
As I am going to study there, I hope to know more about what should I prepare mentally before I enter.

As most of you all know, it's known for it's extraordinary luxury for students.
However, I know the degree courses are quite new. Therefore, recognition wise, maybe it's a bit lacking?
I don't know, graduates there please help..?

Anyway, I'm taking up the Biomedical science degree.[[SIZE=7]
So I would love to know about the lecturers.. facilities..
or what should I start studying now..? LOL (since it's FEB, my intake is MARCH )
I did my research, but I always believe more on real testimonies from graduates/students themselve.
So do me a favour?

Future of a Biomedical Science graduate in M'SIA

I considered Biomedical Science as my undergraduate degree course.
I haven't registered myself but the intake is a month away.

Those biomedical students or graduates, please do help

What can I do after completing the basic 3/4 years of biomed degree?

As far as I was told, biomedical science students usually end up in labs doing research.
I am not a very lab kind of person, nor do I love biology.
But compared to medicine and pharmacy, this seems like a lighter and brighter path to take.

I would like to know the opportunities of a biomed graduate.
I've heard of furthering one's studies.
What if I don't..?
What am I left to choose..?

Plus, pharmacy and medicine fields are said to be getting VERY saturated with umemployed graduates.
Is this the same with biomed..?
This is a big concern for me as I am planning to stay in Malaysia unless I am THAT smart to earn myself a scholarship.
Meanwhile, I need to know the ugliest fact before I throw myself into this course.

The "type" for Pharmacy

HELLO.
I would love comments about the above topic.

i believe every course has its "type"
Just like how one who wants to study psychology should be organized, calm and loves words to the core.

Can anybody suggest on this for pharmacy ..?

I am currently hesitating whether to take this undergraduate degree or otherwise.
It is a LONG and TOUGH journey ahead. So i hope to gather every possible information.

Plus as a Malaysian, I know that pharmacists here are very restricted from their roles since doctors here do everything.
Is this still a wise move to make?

As for interest wise, i don't hate science nor do I love them.
But I would like to do a degree in science. Medicine, Nursing, and Engineering is out of the line...

So maybe pharmacy.. or biomedical science...?

Biomedical Science vs Pharmacy..?

HELLO to anyone who's reading this..
First of all, thank you in advance as I need every form of advice for my doubts.

A short intro about myself.. I am 19, just graduated my pre-u course in Sunway University College.
I've been struggling upon the same issue for months, and I hope the kind souls out there can help

As from the title, I am in dilemma between the 2 courses.
I did all 3 sciences since 16.
Even in my pre-u. I did all 3 sciences as the safest package. Unfortunately, I am still clueless as before till today.

Initially I wanted to do medicine, which is the MBBS course. But I cannot handle the lengthy years, plus the study stress.. I just can't imagine myself alive.
Hence, I am indirectly left with the pharmacy option.
I did my research online, read blogs and got reviews from counsellors, and I ended up feeling worse..

Reasosn being..
1. I don't absolutely love pharmacy. I just happen to look at it as an alternative of medicine. But many told me pharmacy course has the syllabus quite similar with medicine. Which means the study stress is almost on par.
I need advices on this.

2. Pharmacy field is getting too saturated with fresh graduates. It was highly in demand, but not in these years. There are many umemployment problems, or rather employed with an unjust salary..
I stumbled upon this fact after watching testimonies on youtube, and reading blogposts from pharmacy graduates.
hence, i really need a confirmation on this.
Pharmacy course costs a bomb, and I wouldn't wanna end up fussing about jobs after investing so much money and time. Is this course a bright path in Malaysia...?

3. Pharmacy graduates always face a huge hurdle in paying off the debt after finishing the course. I've seen news that stated one paid double the debt amount to finally clear off the original loan plus interest.
If this is true, I would be more than happy to exclude this choice of course.
afterall, the aim of studying, is to get a good pay and a satisfying living, not constantly clearing off debts...

Those above are some of the many issues that worry me.
Hence, I began to look into biomedical sciences. Personally, I am not a very lab kind of person, nor do I love Biology.
But considering the facts above, biomed looks a lot more lighter and brighter for an undergraduate course.
I researched into this course. But I hope to hear from the biomed students or graduates themselve.
What's the future of a biomed in Malaysia?
Another reason I am interested in biomed is because a counsellor told me that this course is fairly related to medicine. But then I will have to deal with staying in labs rather than communicating with patients.
Please, anyone, do enlighten me on what should I hope/prepare/know about biomedical science..

OR advice me to stay on pharmacy..?
