[WTA] Revised: gaming rig

Refer: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1929574

as before, my budget is 1500 over 3 months, my main priority is getting a rig that is able to do the following:
1. able to smoothly run current games like DA 2 or Crysis2 on med-high settings
2. mobo with option to add-on/upgrade parts

1500 being my limit, but preferable to less to accomplish the above then the savings could be set aside towards acquiring a decent monitor and gpu earlier. i heard using a AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE x4 Processor which is 200 cheaper than an i-5 2400 is powerful enough to support crysis2 on med-high.

gpu and monitor will add on later. i intend to aim for dell u2311h (not part of above budget)

since i'm not cash rich i opt to get just what i need, then upgrade later to i-5/i-7 sandy bridge and more RAM when more funds become available.

any thoughts?

[WTA] Piecing together a Gaming Rig (Flexibility)

Dear Sifus, would like your advice and suggestions in building a gaming rig (excluding monitor) as I'm not familiar with what works and what doesn't.

I'm currently on a 4-5 year old PC, AMD dual core 2.6Ghz, 1gb RAM with an nvidia 516mb graphics card. I intend to re-use the HDDs and optical drive. Not entirely sure if the RAM is DDR2 or DDR3 and if the g.card, PSU, casing and mobo is applicable so i won't include them for re-use yet til i can confirm their compatibility.

Onto budget, its RM1500, BUT to be spread over a period of 3 months. Hence I'm wondering if its possible to start with a couple of core components while making do with re-used parts, and gradually adding the other individual parts bit by bit.

Also, I expect that as time goes by my budget will increase, hence future 6monthly upgrades to stuff like processor, RAM, g.card etc may be a possibility.

Targeted games would be Dragon Age 2 and a few of the 2011 released games, on medium to high display.

Thanks =)

P.S. would overclocking be an option/recommended?
