DS terrace renovation

Hi, I'm planning my renovation soon. Need some ideas on the living room. The design is abit weird with an angle at one of the room beside the living hall. There's also a pillar sticking out in the middle of nowhere.

1. This shot is taken from the main entrance. Noticed the pillar at the centre of the pic. Should I seal the hole in between the pillar or do something there? My sofa will be to the point where the tape is.

2. This is the room with the angle. I'm thinking of knocking the wall down and raising up another but without the angle. So the room will be smaller. There will be a wide glass door to the room. The reason being I feel that the big wall next to the livingroom is distracting.

3. Thick beam across the original design had a sliding door below the beam. Is it safe to shave the beam?

4. Plan to have a sliding door to the kitchen. As it would be a wet/dry kitchen. Sliding door to keep the fumes from going to the living room when cooking is done.
