Hi there,

I actually used to have a gaming laptop, a Dell Inspiron 7447 for a year plus... then it got stolen. Was unable to recover it, so I used my old laptop back (no Steam for quite a long time ), but now this laptop, a 1st gen i3 user, is now 6 years + old, slowly failing me.

Is there a replacement laptop that can allow me to play all these games I had on my Steam account below RM2,700? I don't care about graphics settings, I just want 30fps for all these games and DragonNest.

The compulsory specs are:-

> Must be i5 or i7 (4th Gen/Haswell or better)
> SSHD, since I used my laptop mainly for everything.
> good battery life, this laptop will be used for university studies.
> 8GB RAM, scientific tools that I use, Chrome and gaming takes up a lot of memory.
> 14" or smaller, I carry it everywhere~

> I don't care if the laptop has touchscreen or not.

I hope someone can recommend a few particular models so that I can compare before buying~

stolen laptop bag

Hi there. I need some assistance. I lost my laptop bag. I wrote out a FB post regarding this. the laptop has no tracking device installed, but Dropbox is still connected. I tried to call Dell about this, but they are closed today after 3. Any more things I can do about this incident? I am sincerely asking for any kind of help now...tq.

Car remote lost, no spare

Hi there,

This is on behalf of a friend that lost his car remote keys for his hyundai (before facelift model, he said '09 model i think).

He already got his keys made, but since he lost his car remote W/OUT SPARE, must change the alarm or can program a new remote? if someone know, can share how to do so or where can make? or must he change the entire car alarm? he want recommendation for aftermarket alarms if really must change.

need a bit of help here. I was thinking of becoming a patent agent since I'm not really interested in staying in the lab forever after my biotech degree. gov website says that you only need a relevant degree or qualifications, but after doing a bit of searching i found an old tered that says you will need a Masters in IP. Is this a must? I have plans for Masters in science field.

And is it a must to have years of experience before qualifying? If recommended or a must, which field?

And if others have experience in pursuing this, please let me know. thank kiew.

I'm asking this on behalf of my friend from Indonesia.

She wants to do her foundation course here in Malaysia, due to lack of quality education in her vicinity, but she is unable to find any loans or scholarship that will allow her to pursue it here.

Can anyone recommend any loans or scholarships that she can pursue in order to study here, and cheap places to study foundation? (I recommended MCKL's A-Levels to her)

She's interested in literature or psychology.

Hey LYN,
I need help finding a phone with these specs:-

2GB RAM or more for multitasking purposes (I do a lot of stuff on my phone as a modder)

Processor must be MORE than 1.5GHz if dual-core, and MORE than 1.2GHz if quad-core (NOT EQUAL)

Screen size below 5" coz my fingers are short and plump.

LTE capability recommended

Is it possible to find all these under RM800? That's the number coz that's the initial price of my old Sony Xperia L at the time I got it under warranty. The only one that I managed to find with such specs is the Asus Zenfone 5 (LTE and 3G), but apparently gaming is not optimized for the Intel processor it has, which also impedes my ability to mod it to my liking.

I discovered that my particular hard drive is actually the Seagate ST1000LM014 model, which is actually a hybrid drive which uses SSD technology as read cache; it's not your normal laptop hard drive (specs of HDD in spoiler)

I have a Crucial MX100 256GB SSD lying around, and i thought of using this as a secondary drive in a caddy case to replace the rarely used optical drive bay.

Since it's a SSHD and SSD combo now, I'm not sure which one I should use as my primary (boot) drive.The second question is if I should use the Intel SRT function which is part of the Intel RST software: this function basically allows me to use up to 64GB of the SSD for caching purposes - similar to the MLC cache in the hybrid drive (which isn't detected by Intel RST).
Should I turn it off or on for my Hybrid Drive?

Purposes/Uses of rig:
Extensive gaming - Steam machine, w/ PS1,PS2,PSP,GBA,NDS,Wii emulators + gaming apps like Asphalt 8 , Dungeon Hunter 4 & ongoing
Frequent university-level work - Science-oriented work, laptop is basically replacement for old entry-level Dell Inspiron 14R N4010 (I don't own a desktop)
Multitasking - Music, YouTube, research, light gaming (gaming apps), data transfer and document editing was most stressful so far
Modding - GPU overclocking, Android rooting + mods, Jailbreaking iOS (Cydia) + mods, MAY include BIOS CPU/RAM overclock when warranty is up

Keyboard lag

So far there has been no major issues since i bought it from PC Fair this year @ Mid Valley. However, there is one issue that annoys me up to no end after prolonged gaming. (Asphalt 8 for 2 hours)

The keyboard starts to lag: While playing Asphalt 8, i noticed the lag there for the first time. Did a check by drifting left and right, apparently the input time varies. While writing this post, can notice that the letters come out around five to seven letters at once.
And then, the touchpad doesn't register a random input at random times, then back to normal.

If anything i did my research and know that insufficient memory has nothing to do with it since i have 8GB of RAM.

What can be the cause of the problem? Could it be any of these programs causing it? or is it overheating?

Side income for the uni student

Hey everyone, I came to ask on a really worrying issue.

I am unable to ask help from the other side of my divorced family coz they are a really bigoted bunch, and the current side that i'm staying with isn't faring well.

Therefore, to cope with university life and car installments (somehow forced upon me), I need to earn around RM600 (RM300 for car, RM300 for allowances for all expenses) per month in order to actually be able to pay for both.

University starts in a month, so I will need to have a earning plan ready before it starts. For me, yes, the clock is ticking.

As for scholarships, the dependence on my current family side on businesses (shareholding) which is a "risky but rewarding" job makes it difficult to apply for hardship scholarships, and my grades are a cent below the minimum limit for most competitive scholarships, not to mention the fact that I'm also a non-bumiputera.

Other than
i. part-time jobs
ii. teaching (which may not work even tho I'm confident in my teaching abilities due to low pay if i work for tuition centers)
iii. affiliate-ship (online)
I do not know how else to earn.

MLM/network marketing is not a viable option here since I am not willing to lose my remaining bunch of friends from the many I used to have in return for the job, although I know it's a very lucrative job if I do it right.
