[With Japanese brand Sacai kicking off its month-long residency at Colette (France), the label has released some great pieces Conversere All Star Star 1970s, courtesy of some input from Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment design.

The duo’s footwear offering is comprised of two distinct options: tonal black and all-white. Both high-top models are embellished with “sacai” and “frgmt” text alongside the Japanese cohorts’ ubiquitous logos. Moreover, translucent taping is observed on the heel cap of each shoe for a striking look.The iconic fragment lighting bolts appear on the heel tab next to the original Chuck Taylor call out. John Mayer is one of the best guitarists on the planet right now, and he’s also an aficionado of streetwear and sneakers alike. American artist Daniel Arsham and adidas Originals have teamed up to create a new version of the brand’s New York silhouette. The sneaker’s design is a shout out to Arsham’s love for archeology, sporting a bone-like color with frayed edges along the tongue and the overlay above the toe box. Made from a light mesh material, the sneaker also features the text “THE PAST IS PRESENT” along the side, which is only visible when placed underneath an ultraviolet light.

The body sits atop a textured white rubber outsole, which is cut sharper around the bottom edges. The sneaker’s design is finished off with matching white laces and metallic spray applied to the aglets.

What's the Difference between Classic Converse & 70s Converse?

The Upper
The upper of the 70's version is slightly thicker, and constructed from a cotton canvas that is more durable. The weave of fabric seems to be tighter, leaving them able to take more of a battering. This also means they feel a little more substantial, and premium.

The Sole
The outsole has an extra layer of rubber, which keeps in-tune with the original Converse design of the 1970s. You may find that the toe-box is slightly more tapered, or squashed in, giving them a slightly awkward appearance, or "fugly" as they say...

The rubber band piping, which connects the sole to the upper, has been switched from a bright, bold red colour, to a more subtle muted red or jet black. The bright white sole of the All Star has also been replaced with an off-white sole, giving that sun faded, retro appearance.

The Stitching
Now this is what people are raving about. There's quite a big difference in the stitched across the 70s style Converse; the construction seems to use a slightly tighter stitch length, which helps with durability. But the main difference is the extra stitching around the the widest part of the tox-box. In the early 80s this detail was scrapped from the design, to give a more stripped-back appearance, but the remake brings back that original detail. This is one of the more noticeable changes, and more the bit that people pick up on most.

The Laces + Eyelets
The laces have been switched for a slightly thiner style, again giving the overall look a more through-back appeal. Also, you may find that the length of the laces is much longer - a strange design feature, but we assume there's a good reason! This might be down to an original one-size-fits-all factory policy, to keep costs down.
The eyelets also have a point of difference, with the remake featuring a more robust, larger, and shinier design.

The Insole
For me personally, this is where the magic happens. Converse sneakers are notoriously quite thin, narrow and flat on the foot. But as Converse is now owned by Nike, the two brands have joined forces to keep improving, and making advances in comfort. The original All Star still has the regular, tin sole but the 70's style now features a memory foam-style Nike-produced insole. Making these guys a million times more comfortable on the foot. Hooray!

The Small Details
There's a few other tell-tale signs if you look closely:

- The "license plate" branding on the back of the heel is black with white writing, instead of white black writing

- The outsole has a pattern variation of deeper dashes, to help with grip

- On the inside of right foot there is a Player's Card, where you can write you name - which harps back to the days of wearing Converse in the locker room, and as a sporting sneaker

- The colourways are more washed out, but also punchy on the 70s, with whites being replaced with parchment + natural, blues come up more vibrant, greens come in primary and red through back to the late 70s.

For this latest collaborative project with adidas Consortium, Foot Patrol have looked at the rich history of London-inspired adidas footwear for inspiration. The result is a luxurious EQT Running Cushion 93, which features a colour palette and detailing reminiscent of the legendary adidas London runner. This fresh 2016 rendition sports a combined nylon and mesh upper with premium pig-skin suede and synthetic nubuck overlays in Black and Grey. Burgundy accents appear on the 3-Stripe webbing, lace jewel, tongue label and heel.

To add some extra contrast to the silhouette, the 3-Stripe webbing on the medial panel has been switched to a rich, dark Black. The adidas Equipment and Footpatrol Gasmask logos sit tastefully embroidered on the heels, reminding us who’s behind the project. The footbed comes in a deep Burgundy colour with a repeat Consortium graphic which features an illustration of the Footpatrol mascot at the heel.
