CIMB OCTO App eKYC is a massive step backward. Why can’t we just use ATMs like other banks?

Is anyone else incredibly frustrated with the new CIMB OCTO App device binding process?

They are now forcing existing customers to go through full eKYC (scanning MyKad and upload your facial recognition) just to change to a new phone.

This approach is highly problematic and should be changed

The Security Paradox - We are being asked to upload a clean, unwatermarked copy of our MyKad to an app. If there is ever a data breach, our identities are completely compromised. How is this safer?

Redundancy - We already went through strict KYC procedures when we opened our accounts at the branch and registered for CIMBClicks. Re-doing it for a device change makes no sense.

High Failure Rates & Branch Hassle - The eKYC system frequently fails after 3 attempts. The "solution" is forcing us to visit a branch during working hours (before 4 PM). Most of us have to take leave or time off work just to fix an app issue, spending money on petrol and parking somemore.

Other Banks Do It Better - CIMB is vastly behind its competitors. Look at how other banks handle secure device binding:

Maybank: Register on the new phone, head to any ATM to activate Secure2u.

Public Bank: Register on the new phone, go to an ATM to enable PB SecureSign.

RHB: Unregister the old phone, activate Secure Plus via ATM.

AmBank: Verification via ATM debit card PIN with a 12-hour cooling-off period.

ATMs offer 18 hours of access daily of convenience without compromising security, as physical card + PIN is an excellent form of Two-Factor Authentication.

CIMB needs to reconsider this eKYC-only approach and give us an ATM verification option. If you agree or have faced the same issue, please share your experience below. CIMB needs to push an update soon.
