Usb modem & the broadband speed!

The Huawei usb modem i bought 2 years plus ago "die" last month. I forgot what is the model , but it is white in color and can only be connected to my laptop using usb cable. The old modem worked perfectly fine, signal was strong and speed was excellent, most of the time are in HSDPA speed. By the way, i subscribe to celcom rm 68/mth package. I always have full 4 bars at my office and 3/2 bars at home. Few weeks ago, the huawei modem was "dead", can't detect simcard anymore. I presumed it's dead since the simcard is working fine using my phone.

I bought a new usb modem fr ZTE. It's a USB stick modem (looks like thumbdrive), which is much smaller than my old one. Dont have the model no with me now, it's black color, with green line on the edge n micro sd slot. I discovered that my internet speed become slower than when i used my old modem. Also, i can only get 2/3 bars in office and worse at home. The connection becomes very unstable, easily disconnected & get edge n GPRS ... Also, I notice that my send data are a lot higher than my received data when i'm surfing, then my cap of 5gb/mth is reached much faster than previously. The connection become so slow at home, that it take extremely long time to check my email n using google...........

I wonder whether it's the brand of the modem that cause this big difference? or the model? Anyone has the same experience with me? I'm thinking of buying another modem. can anyone suggest to me what i should buy? Thinking of buying my old model, but can't really find it anywhere now. All are usb stick-like modem..
