Using filter with canon ring flash mr-14ex

Hi all,

i'm using Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens with canon mr-14ex ring flash. As all of you already know, this combination will not allow for usage of a filter.

Will getting Cokin A Series Adapter Ring 58mm solve this problem? If I get this adapter ring, can I use any 58mm filter or I will have to get cokin filter?

Adobe Reader 9 Problems with Vista Ultimate 64

Recently upgraded to vista 64 ultimate from windows xp and faced this problem. My windows taskbar won't hide when i use full screen mode for Adobe Reader 9. As a result the bottom of my pdf document gets block by the taskbar.

This problem isn't present when using windows xp. Windows taskbar will hide during full screen movie playback/picture viewing. Tried downgrading to Adobe Reader 8 but no change.

Dunno if anyone faced this problem also. I read alot of pdf documents so this is kinda important for me.

NHT Xd Powered Speaker System

Anyone heard this before? Who is carrying in Malaysia? NHT is discontinuing them and so giving a 50% discount (US$3k from US$6k). Considering that u gonna save up on amplifiers and speaker stands, they are pretty good value for money.

The woofer itself is around 60kg, and the whole set comes in 6 boxes. I think shipping is going to be a major problem. Any suggestions?

Anyway I hope to gather opinions regarding:
1. performance/reviews
2. local retail price
3. ideas on shipping

Maybe we can bulk? :>

Firefox 3.01 download prompt too small

Since I upgrade from firefox 3.00 to firefox 3.01, I've been faced with a small download prompt window that I cannot resize. As a result I am unable to see everything in my download prompt.

Anyone have any solution? Thanks in advance

Self-powered USB hub prevents resume from standby

Recently added a Lexma 4 port self-powered usb. Then realized my computer cannot resume after going into standby mode. The +5V DC power for the USB hub is obtained from my psu by connecting to the red and black wires of a molex connector.

Here are my trial and errors finding:
USB hub and external power both disconnect -> normal
USB hub connected and external power disconnected -> normal
USB hub and external power connected -> cannot resume after standby -> unplug external power -> still cannot resume

The "shut down" process for going into standby mode went smoothly, with fans and everything powering off.

I tested my DC power supply, seems ok coz my Iphone can charge from the hub with power plugged in and usb disconnected. All peripherals also seem to work fine with the USB hub.

tried a search but did not find anything relavant.

helping a friend to upgrade RAM for laptop (acer travelmate 290).
-4 yrs old.
-Chipset type Intel 855GM
-came with ddr 266 sdram

want to ask whether the laptop is compatible with ddr-333 ram or even ddr2 ram (coz they are cheaper).

Iphone contact names doesn't show up

i'm using unlocked (duh!) iphone firmware 1.1.1

whenever i saved a number in iphone with a international prefix, the name doesn;t show up when the person calls.
eg.

Ah Seng - 012-xxxxxxx

if i save it as +6012-xxxxxxx, iphone won't recognise Ah Seng when he calls me.
anyone got the same prob?

bloody iphone is starting to piss me off....so many design flaws.

can anybody teach me how to meausure frequency response at home?

Questions:
1. where can i find free and easy to use tone generator?
2. do i need a spl meter or i can just connect a microphone to my soundcard?
3. microphone: how good shld it be?
4. spl meter: where to get cheap ones in malaysia?

planning to use my pc for music in the following configuration:

onboard optical out to Zhaolu 2.5
Zhaolu 2.5 to Swan T200a (studio monitors) and headphones (not decided)

What do you guys think?

Anyway I'm a bit confused regarding the different models of Zhaolu 2.5. Here is the price quote from their website.

D2.5 立体声音频解码器AD1852版 980元

D2.5 解码器内置升级耳放块 330元

its seems like the model without surround sound cost alot lesser(only RMB 330). What's the point of having surround sound if the output is only stereo. Is it advisable to go for the non-surround model?

Secondly, anybody heard about swan speakers before? They recieved pretty good reviews from a few places. Website. Newegg sells them for USD 490. But I'm quite sure my friend in China can get them for much lesser. But even at USD 490 some people still thinks they are a bargain.

Finally anyone knows how much import duties i have to pay for bringing in speakers?
