The "One Belt and One Road for Mutual Benefit and Win-Win" comics is controversial. Prime Minister Mahathir showed his attitude. Malaysia- China is also a friend who has benefited from the Belt and Road, but Malaysia will not let Chinese thought and ideology enter the campus even on Belt and Road.

Tun M said that Malaysia will support the Belt and Road and benefit from the perspective of national interests. However, We dont want other countries to influence Malaysian strategies and schools, nor does it hope that other countries will have an undue influence on Malaysian young people.

Mahathir made a response to the above dispute when he attended the summit of the Malaysian International Strategy Institute in 019 today.

The comic book "The Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Belt" was published by the director of the Asian Manga Culture Museum. The cartoon was sent to the school library for a great controversy. The Prime Minister’s Office further clarified that this cartoon is not an official gift, clarifying that the Prime Minister has never been involved in publishing and approval. Delivered to the school.

(News compiled from "Sin Chew Daily")

UCSI poll: Local people are getting $ tighter

google translate

UCSI poll: Local people are getting tighter and tighter
According to a survey conducted by the UCSI Polling Research Center, domestic consumers have a 11.4% decline in “feeling financial abundance” in just 4 months, while those facing “financial difficulties” have risen 8.9%, meaning large The horseman's hand is getting tighter!

The UCSI Polling Research Center was conducted between September 25 and October 8, with a total of 1173 people participating.

According to the survey results, in comparing the personal financial situation of the past 12 months, 52.2% and 54.7% of the consumers surveyed in May and September respectively were roughly the same.

However, it is worrying that the September survey showed that the proportion of consumers with financial leeway fell to 20.2%, which was lower than the 31.6% in May; however, respondents facing financial difficulties were from May. 16.2%, rising to 25.1% in September.

According to the survey, up to 79.4% of respondents believe that they are not suitable for buying a car or home in the next six months, and another 20.6% hold the opposite opinion.

Colleagues, 74% of respondents believe that the next 6 months is not a good time to buy durable consumer goods such as furniture, refrigerators, TV, etc. Only 26% of respondents hold the opposite opinion

http://www.988.com.my/news/191021-survey-m...Hga4BDvlnLfkLEg

UM student action 'reasonable and within law'

A group of Universiti Malaya (UM) alumni has expressed support for Wong Yan Ke who protested against the university's vice-chancellor Abdul Rahim Hashim during the graduation ceremony.

In a petition signed by former UM students, the group said Wong's action was reasonable and in accordance with the law.

"Wong took less than 10 seconds to unfurl a placard and yell. His action did not disrupt the flow of the convocation ceremony," it said.

On Monday, Wong staged a protest against Rahim by unfurling a placard and yelled "Tolak rasis. Undur VC. Ini Tanah Malaysia (Reject racism. VC withdraw (his statements). This is Tanah Malaysia)”.

The placard listed reasons why Rahim should step down. Wong did this on stage at UM’s convocation ceremony, after receiving his scroll.

The next day, another graduate, Edan Kon Hua En, attempted the same stunt but was foiled by the university's security force.

The protests were aimed at Rahim (photo) over his alleged racist speech at the Malay Dignity Congress on Oct 6.

The alumni group opined that Wong's had raised awareness to the society in regard to the vice-chancellor's irresponsible speech.

"We must also remember that the Federal Constitution and Universiti Malaya's constitution do not prohibit university students from verbally asking the vice-chancellor to resign."

The group also criticised the university for preventing Kon from entering the hall to receive the scroll, saying that UM could be seen as trying to create "white terror" in the university.

UM had filed a police report against Wong after the incident. He was expected to have his statement recorded at the Brickfields police station today.

The group urged Education Minister Maszlee Malik and his deputy Teo Nie Ching to instruct the UM management to retract the report.

It also wants Maszlee to explain his attendance at the Malay Dignity Congress.

"This is because he would be seen as supporting the racist statements at the congress."

Anyone with dignity will know you don't demand dignity from people, you earn your dignity. For high education entities to hold such stupid congress is laughing stock for everyone.

nova9001

Malay Dignity Congress already tells you what the congress is about. Mr Wong described Mr Rahim's comments as uncalled for.

“His remarks on race and religion in the speech were very unbecoming of him. Furthermore, he is a respected figure at a well-known university.”

At the congress, Mr Rahim allegedly said the change in government after the 14th general election had eliminated Malay political dominance. He also asserted that Malay privileges were being questioned.

Mr Rahim also allegedly warned others not to challenge the social contract.

Mr Wong, a student activist from Bukit Mertajam, also denied being rude to Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah, adding that the monarch was absent during the incident.

“Many have accused me of being rude and disrespectful to the sultan but he was not there.

“I got my scroll from Ramli Ngah Talib,” Mr Wong said.

“I did not interrupt the ceremony. Right after I received my scroll, I walked to the front where the vice-chancellor was sitting, just took out a placard and demanded his resignation.

“It took less than 30 seconds and I walked down the stage immediately after that.”

It was reported that Mr Wong, upon receiving his scroll, yelled: “Tolak rasis. Undur VC. Ini Tanah Malaysia (Reject racists. Remove VC. This is Malaysia)”, while holding up a placard which listed several reasons why Mr Rahim should resign.

A short clip of Mr Wong’s protest on stage at the convocation is being widely shared on Facebook, while there is also an online petition urging that his bachelor’s degree be retracted.

Mr Wong said he explained to his family what had happened at the convocation and they understood why he did what he did.

UM has lodged a police report against Mr Wong, accusing him of not showing any respect for the convocation ceremony and disrupting protocol.

“His actions at an official event in public, before the chancellor, before parents and graduates, were rude and cannot be condoned at all.

“We submit to the authorities to investigate and take appropriate action,” the university said in a statement.

Mr Wong confirmed that he will be questioned at the Brickfields district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

In March, Mr Wong was involved in another controversy after he was manhandled by supporters of Najib Razak when the former Malaysian prime minister held a forum with UM students.

Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam and three others were charged with two counts of assaulting Mr Wong, who staged a protest across the road from a restaurant near the UM entrance where Najib was speaking.

Lawyer Siti Kasim asked UM if they could come up with a press statement on condemning a Malaysian who is standing up for his right, why they were silent on the action of their VC's extremely racist statement.

“The action of your student is a consequence of your VC's racist statement. This is an educational body. You should be ashamed to have a VC who is obviously racist. Is this what you teach in UM? It is this student's right to respond to his VC in this manner, so as to get the attention of many.

“The only good thing I see is that you have a student who is still able to use his brain, instead of kowtowing to the racism apparently prevalent in your university. Shame on you, UM, ” she said in a Facebook post.

Suaram calls for UM VC to resign
Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019...0GWGMtWA3Fge.99

PETALING JAYA: Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) has called for the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya (UM) Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim (pic) to resign if he is unable to take criticism from students or is unwilling to provide a safe space for students to engage in discourse.

Saying that they were perturbed by the police report lodged by UM following the protest by Wong Yan Ke during a convocation ceremony, Suaram believed that others should lead and develop UM as an academic institution that promotes critical discourse among its students.

“University Malaya and all universities are supposed to be a safe space where students and youth are given a safe space to learn, debate and develop their ideas.

“As part of this process, any critique against policies through protests or civil disobedience is to be expected and welcomed, so long it does not promote violence against others, ” Suaram executive director Sevan Doraisamy said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 16).

On Monday (Oct 14), UM lodged a police report against Wong after he staged a solo protest calling for the resignation of the varsity’s vice-chancellor, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim.

Wong had allegedly shouted “Ini Tanah Malaysia” while carrying a placard with the words “Tolak Rasis” (reject racism) and “Undur VC” (step down VC) on stage during his graduation after he received his degree scroll.

He said it was done to protest the vice-chancellor's recent speech at the Malay Dignity Congress in Shah Alam and claimed that the speech was racially charged and as a graduate, he had a right to criticise and call for the individual to be courteous.

The Malay Dignity Congress was organised by four public universities - Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) - to discuss and find solutions to problems faced by the Malays.

Sevan said the position adopted by University Malaya only shows that the management of the university has not progressed at all, despite the change of policies by the Ministry of Education.

He said that Suaram has previously stood as a witness for Anis Syafiqah and others when they were penalised by University Malaya for organising the Tangkap MO1 rally in Kuala Lumpur.

“It would seem that the management still aims to paint students’ act of civil disobedience as a deplorable act, irrespective of the reasons or motivation behind them, ” he said, while calling for UM to retract the police report.

TAGS / KEYWORDS:
Abdul Rahim Hashim , Suaram , Vice Chancellor , Universiti Malaya

Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019...0GWGMtWA3Fge.99

21% Shadow Economy

Lim urges LHDN to tap into 'shadow economy'
Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019...RChilOtAAt34.99

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is looking into tapping income tax revenue from the shadow economy, said to account for 21% of the country's RM1.45 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said it was high time that the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) went after players in the shadow economy sector.

"The shadow economy accounts for 21% of the GDP. This is a big number. LHDN must rope in this hidden sector into the taxation system," he said after opening a national taxation seminar at a hotel here on Tuesday (Oct 15).

The shadow economy includes the underground economy as well as retail businesses run by foreigners, among others, he said.

"This is different from the informal economy sector, involving Grab drivers and others," added Lim.

Noting that it was difficult to estimate the actual size of the shadow economy, Lim said proactive and innovative measures were needed to include this into the taxation system to further boost revenue.

He also said that the federal government's revenue was expected to increase from RM233.3bil this year to RM244.5bil next year.

"This excludes the one-off RM30bil Petronas dividend," he said.

The government, said Lim, would also be introducing a Tax Identification Number for individuals aged 18 and above in 2021 as well as for all businesses in a move to expand and enhance tax collection.

"We want to make sure that no one escapes paying tax," he said, calling on LHDN to apply Big Data technology to check tax evasion.

Lim said LHDN's Revenue Transformation Plan was aimed at enhancing compliance, plugging loopholes and checking losses.

On the Voluntary Disclosure Programme that ended on Sept 30, Lim said the penalty had now been increased to between 45% and 300%.

"We have given ample time (from Nov 3 last year to Sept 30 this year) for people to voluntarily disclose their undeclared sources of revenue, including deposits in banks abroad, and enjoy a much lower penalty of 10%.

"Now, the penalty is increased again to up to 300%," he said.

Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019...RChilOtAAt34.99

WRP Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media...JjO9fMPBN1ZnxPY

CBP Issues Detention Orders against Companies Suspected of Using Forced Labor
Release Date: October 1, 2019
WASHINGTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued five Withhold Release Orders (WROs) covering five different products, imported from five different countries yesterday, September 30. This action was based on information obtained and reviewed by CBP that indicates that the products are produced, in whole or in part, using forced labor.

“A major part of CBP’s mission is facilitating legitimate trade and travel,” said Acting CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan. “CBP’s issuing of these five withhold release orders shows that if we suspect a product is made using forced labor, we’ll take that product off U.S. shelves.”

Under U.S. law, it is illegal to import goods into the U.S that are made wholly or in part by forced labor, which includes convict labor, indentured labor, and forced or indentured child labor. When sufficient information is available, CBP may detain goods believed to have been produced with forced labor by issuing a WRO. Importers have the opportunity to either re-export the detained shipments at any time or to submit information to CBP demonstrating that the goods are not in violation

The Forced Labor Division within CBP’s Office of Trade leads agency enforcement efforts prohibiting the importation of goods made using forced labor. CBP receives allegations of forced labor from a variety of sources, including from the general public.

“CBP is firmly committed to identifying and preventing products made with the use of forced labor from entering the stream of U.S. Commerce,” said Brenda Smith, Executive Assistant Commissioner, CBP Office of Trade. “The effort put into investigating these producers highlights CBP’s priority attention on this issue. Our agency works tirelessly behind the scenes to investigate and gather information on forced labor in global supply chains,” she said.

The following WROs are effective immediately:

Garments produced by Hetian Taida Apparel Co., Ltd. in Xinjiang, China; produced with prison or forced labor.
Disposable rubber gloves produced in Malaysia by WRP Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd.; produced with forced labor.
Gold mined in artisanal small mines (ASM) in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC); mined from forced labor.
Rough diamonds from the Marange Diamond Fields in Zimbabwe; mined from forced labor.
Bone black manufactured in Brazil by Bonechar Carvão Ativado Do Brasil Ltda; produced with forced labor.

Sumber: Berita Harian

But that 'problem' can be easily fixed by just pressing that specific key ― it would skip the verification part and go straight to MyIMMs database, where made-up particulars of their clients are stored with their biometric information,” the report quoted a source saying.

The bypass was put in place to speed up passport applications and renewals, which can sometimes take less than an hour in an emergency.

In 2016, 15 immigration officers were sacked, 14 suspended and eight others had their salary increments frozen when they were found to be involved in sabotaging the system ― called MyIMMs ― and selling passports to syndicates who sell them to fugitives and militants for a profit of billions of ringgit.

The report said that other clients were wealthy Chinese nationals who wanted passports with different nationalities to allow their children to study in international schools in China.

Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud announced in July that it was

I did not promise how much I would give but I would give him the donation cheque when I had money,” said Chai.

Chai was a witness at the corruption trial of Tengku Adnan, who was charged on Jan 23 this year with allegedly receiving RM2mil as bribery from him.

“At that time, I did not know who owned Tadmansori Holdings and I didn’t ask him why the donation should be given to the company and not to Umno’s account,” he said.

Chai told the court he gave the cheque personally to Tengku Adnan at his office at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) headquarters.

“I often went to his office in DBKL headquarters since (my company) started being involved in Rumawip (Federal Territories Affordable Housing Project) to discuss issues regarding the project,” he said.

On the first day of the trial, the prosecution had alleged there was conflict of interest between Tengku Adnan’s post as the then Federal Territories minister and Aset Kayamas’ property development activities.

Deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim – in her opening statement on the first day of the trial – told the court that Chai had personally handed a proposal on developing a 4.05-acre site in Bandar Tun Razak to Tengku Adnan on Jan 27, 2015.

The proposal – which was for Aset Kayamas to buy the land and to develop it into affordable housing units and apartments – was however rejected by the then Kuala Lumpur mayor, said DPP Julia.

Despite the rejection, Tengku Adnan however continued to deal with Chai on the proposal, she said.

The trial continues before Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan today.

Read more at https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019...4jGeHDDitRDt.99

1.5 Mil fine Ku Nan Songlap case Opinion

Businessman fined RM1.5 mil over RM1 mil bribe for Ku Nan

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...6sR7sZX0sAQr3fc

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today fined a property developer RM1.5 million after he pleaded guilty to abetting in giving a RM1 million bribe to former Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor over land deals involving Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali said Tan Eng Boon must pay the fine by tomorrow.

“I took into account public interest and the interest of the accused in imposing the sentence,” the judge said.

Tan, 70, pleaded guilty to an amended charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code which carries a two-year jail term or a fine or both upon conviction.

Earlier today, deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim and Tan’s lawyer, Faisal Moideen, conducted a plea bargain before Nazlan.

Julia later told reporters that Tan had been prepared to plead guilty to the amended charge provided he would only be fined.

Nazlan, in imposing the sentence, said he took into account that Tan pleaded guilty at the earliest opportune time.

“This has saved a lot judicial time in a corruption trial,” he said, adding that Tan was also a first offender.

Nazlan said he also considered that Tan abetted with another person in committing the crime in which both were jointly charged.

“However, corruption is a serious crime as it undermines the social and economic development of a country. It also destroys the social fabric of the society,” he said.

After taking the plea bargaining into consideration, the judge said a fine of RM1.5 million or a year’s jail was an appropriate sentence.

Tan, who is the director of a property and development company, had pleaded not guilty on Nov 15 last year to giving a bribe of RM1 million to Tengku Adnan with a Public Bank cheque belonging to Pekan Nenas Industries Sdn Bhd.

The cheque was deposited into a CIMB Bank account owned by Tengku Adnan.

Tan was charged with making the payment to Tengku Adnan for the approval of an application by Nucleus Properties Sdn Bhd (now known as Paragon City Development Sdn Bhd) to increase the industrial plot ratio of a piece of land on Jalan Semarak.

Tengku Adnan, who is the Putrajaya MP, is also charged with receiving the RM1 million from Tan.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Putra World Trade Centre CIMB bank branch here on Dec 27, 2013.

Tan was initially charged under Section 24(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act and those found guilty can be jailed up to 20 years and fined five times the gratification amount.

Julia said Tengku Adnan’s trial has been scheduled to begin on Thursday and Tan would be a prosecution witness.
