I have one 8gb 1600 SODIMM DD3 ram, I just received it today, bought on 30/7/2015, just found out that it doesn't work on my old laptop, boot loop, tried putting it on my office laptop, boot up nicely so the RAM is in good condition. Any takers?

Floating Tile Notification - Concept

Hi, I have an idea for Windows Phone notification, I am not a Windows Phone user but am observing it closely. So full disclosure here if it doesn't sound practical for existing user

Anyway, here goes:

Ford Fiesta Sedan LX 1.6L vs. Kia Forte 1.6(A) EX

Hi, my budget is around 78k and I closed down these two cars. I am NOT interested to get a Vios or Inspira manual so don't need to point to those two.

I know there was a thread about Forte vs Fiesta on this forum but that's Forte 1.6 SX vs Fiesta Sport 1.6 which both are not part of my consideration because of my budget especially Forte 1.6 SX.

I haven't test drive both of them but I've seen Forte's real life interior and I like it quite nicely. The external is ok but I think the one I saw was SX verison, not sure EX version will differ too much or not. So far I've not seen Fiesta Sedan in real life only saw Fiesta Sport on the road before.

This would be the only car for me and I would sell away my old Daihatsu Charade so I would not have another spare car.

From what I gather, here's are the things I like about the two cars. (PROS)

FIESTA:

-External: From picture and also judging from Fiesta Sport, I like the exterior quite nicely. I find it refershing and not too resembled to Civic, Vios, City or the normal cars. So that's a plus point to me. It is externally refreshing like a mini Mondeo actually

-FC: Well Ford make FC exceptionally the highlight of this car so I take it that it has some merit there. Seeing that it's a little car plus the dual clutch auto transmission, I do see that it can give me good FC

-The brand: I know it's assembled at Ruyong, Thailand. But Ford is a good brand and so mainstream reviews I read about Ford has always been good regarding the consistency in quality.

-Rarity: Seldom see a fiesta and never actually saw a Fiesta Sedan on the road before. Feeling a bit exclusive a bit with smug face.

-Handling/Driving: I know the Sport version is fun to drive from what I read & also watch (topgear) so I just assumed that it's true for the sedan as well in some degree.

-Traction control/Electronic safety: Well it has all those HLA, ESP, TCS, EBD, EBA and passive anti theft system (immobilizer)

FORTE:

-Interior: For the kind of money, I really appreciate the interior of Forte. Although the interior I saw was the SX version, I would assume that it would feel pretty much the same for EX version as well. Enlight me.

-Space: Well it's a C segment car, so the space it offers is much more than what a B segment car could. Though my current bachelor status does make this somewhat irrelevent now but I am the type of person who would not change a car until a long time, so this point comes handy in future.

-Spare parts: I see a lot of Forte on the road, it can only be a good thing for cheaper spare parts.

-Better public acceptance: Well, this is just a side point, it has nothing to do with technical performance but Forte with the money and the space does please your parents, girlfriend, uncle, aunty, you name it people. They would acknowledge that you make a good choice and you have achieved quite substantially in life due to the size of your car.

And here are the things I don't like about the two cars: (CONS)

FIESTA:

-Interior: From the picture, I think Forte's interior looks smoother and less plasticky, I've not seen the real thing so can't absolutely be right but this is the perception i've got so far.

-Space: Well the lack of it as compared to Forte does bongle my mind from time to time. I kept asking myself the question whether I have gone out of my mind to buy something smaller for the same price.

-Exterior: Okay, I am sorry that I confused myself. While I like the exterior, I am surrounded by many people that claimed Forte looks nicer. I do think Forte looks nice but in a Honda Civic way (common, no offence). So it kind of makes me indecisive occasionally about its looks.

-Spare parts: I don't see lots of Ford Fiesta on the road which spells expensive spare part price in the future or inavailability.

FORTE:

-Exterior: I do think it looks nice, the SX series (had not paid attention the EX series but I assumed it won't run off too much), but the look is common. When I first saw Forte on picture I think it's pretty because it resembled Civic (hybrid of europe and asian version) but the street soon will be filled with these babies and you would get sick of your car like Wira.

-Size to Engine ratio (FC): It's BIG but it's weight also big but the Engine is small which makes me waries on FC side. Would it be bad, would it be under powered? C segment car normally is 1.8L and onwards. No? I would love some owners to tell me their story.

-Safety and electronic stuff: The cheapest model doesn't have traction control or whatever fancy electronic safety features. Just ABS. Correct me if I am wrong, thank you.

PTPTN Loan (The new 1% calculation)

I've just received the new loan agreement, however when I observed the Loan Summary Table, I see that the "Kos Pentadbiran" is calculated using the following logic.

PEMBIAYAAN YANG DILULUSKAN RM 54,000.00

UPAH PENGURUSAN PEMBIAYAAN RM 10,800.00
(PEMBIAYAAN YANG DILULUSKAN X 1% SETAHUN X TEMPOH BAYARAN BALIK)

I was baffled by the amount of "administration cost" generated because I did the calculation using their in house loan calculator base on average monthly payback, the total amount for "administration cost" is only RM5,600.07.

I noticed that even in the example guideline they supplied, they used the same logic as above which is ultimately flawed.

Using LCD TV as PC/Laptop Monitor via DLNA

Hi guys, I am pretty new to this DLNA scene and reading about it kinda give me a headache, sign of aging as new tech is giving headache these days.

My question is kinda simple, could I use DLNA method to project my screen on laptop to a DLNA enabled TV something something like plugging HDMI to the TV on my laptop.

Any suggestion for 13" laptop. Requirement is lightweight (around 1.5kg) and with optical drive. No need dedicated graphic card. So far I saw MSI on the forum but how's their after sales service?

[Ubuntu]Problem w/ Dial-up connection, No carrier

Hi, I am Ubuntu Jaunty user. Occasionally I required to use tmnet 1515 as I had no other means to access to the internet. When I try to dial 1515 using gnome-ppp, I would get a no-carrier return. I set the software to redial 10 times, sometimes I would get carrier detected within the 10 trials and connected but sometimes it might take 20 or even 30 redial before it got connected. I tried Pon too and gives the same problem as well.

However when I switched to MS windows environment, I hardly had any problems. Only at times, I get limited connection icon but when reconnected, the problem would mostly resolved.

Is the NO CARRIER issue ISP related or Ubuntu related? I am really puzzled.

Streamyx without Phone Rental

I wonder if it is possible to apply streamyx without the phone rental charges as I don't want to use fixed line anyway. Currently, I am sharing streamyx with other housemates but they are moving out soon and plan to cancel the line. I can personally can just do with the Rm66 package 512mb unlimited but the problem is that after adding the rm26 rental, it became a bit not worth it if compared to let's say celcom bb and AMAX.

More motorists switching to RON95

KUALA LUMPUR: Many motorists are switching from RON97 to RON95 petrol even though the new fuel will only be sold throughout the country from Sept 1, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said 90% of RON97 users in Kepong and Selangor, have switched to RON95 while 65% in Putrajaya are now opting for the new fuel.

“This proves that consumers have great confidence in RON95 and the demand for it has been encouraging,” said Ismail Sabri during the launch of Shell’s Unleaded 95 petrol at the Shell Alisha station along the Federal Highway yesterday.

The station is the fourth outlet to sell RON95 petrol after two Petronas stations in Putrajaya and another in Kepong.

“The ministry will continue to carry out awareness campaigns so consumers will understand the need to switch to it,” Ismail Sabri said.

He said RON95, which was suitable for all vehicles, produced less emissions, provided more power and helped the public save money.

Earlier in Putrajaya, Ismail Sabri met representatives from hypermarkets and bumiputra small and medium industries (SMIs) over issues relating to locally-made products sold at hypermarkets.

The complaints included a lack of diverse choice of products, hidden charges imposed on producers, late credit terms and damaged goods.

He said the ministry would organise business-matching shows at hypermarkets to forge closer ties between the two sides.

Note, he says RON95 is suitable for all cars, produced less emissions and provided more power.
While I doubt that it might be suitable for all cars, I strongly believe that it doesn’t produce less emission or NOT by any chance more power (more prone to engine knocking = less performance = less power). Correct me if I were wrong.
This sort of faulty statement is not what a minister should make even if it’s just an honest mistake.

Laptop LCD kong!

My laptop LCD kong. Wonder if I should change a new one? or buy an external LCD? The price which I've got from Digital Mall is Rm550 to change a new one. Not sure how much for a 19" clear type LCD monitor though.

Main worry about replacing the LCD is that it might be just ayam brand LCD, not sure how long it will last plus only cover for 3 months.

Main pet peaves for using an external monitor is that my laptop is pretty much rendered useless in terms of mobility and space saving.

Don't know how to decide.

Nokia 6300, GPRS and EDGE problem

These few days might Nokia 6300 cannot seemed to access GPRS/EDGE at all. The little G or E icon didn't even show up at all. I've never experience that before. Normally, it would says no packet data or something like that if it's setting wrong. I wonder if it's because i've dropped too much till it kong already. Sigh, everything spoil together recently. Sigh...

What do you girls do when you are paying for the meal. Here's our situation, normally when the girlfriend is paying, she would give the money to the boyfriend to pay the meal to jaga his ego presumably. She won't pay directly. But the boyfriend would insist that she should just pay it directly if she wanted to do so since it's her treat and there is nothing wrong of having his meal paid by his girlfriend.

So what about you guys and girls? How's your situation?

How to clean notebook cooler

I have a Zalman NC1000, though I believe it works great but when it comes to dust cleaning it's not so great. I try to clean the fan with a vacuum cleaner but it didn't work. So I resorted using cotton buds instead. It does its fair share of work but still the fans aren't as clean as they first came out from the box.

The problem is that I tried to unscrewed the screws on the aluminum grill but found out that they were only decorations as the aluminum grill is actually bind by something else.

So now my problem is that I can't dissemble the grill to reach the fans, heck I can even clean the air duct inside which I believe must be dusty as well. So any ideas?

I've noticed something. The processor for lenovo 3000 y410 from lenovo site is different from the one reviewed on lowyat.net

The one posted on lowyat.net has a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 (2.0GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB), cost about rm4000++

S-video cable

I just bought a TV and the delivery people had to get a S-video cable to connect my astro decoder to my TV. There the delivery guys charged me extra for the cable.. fair enough.

But I wanted to know how much does a S-video cable cost? It's not really long. But he told me it's rm150. I sensed something wrong but I don't want to make accusation until I can get some opinion first.

So was I cheated or it's really around that price.
