Beware a shady college

Update: Waiting for issue to be resolved with the college. Forget about that scammed part, if they can solve I'll dismiss it. Still doesn't explain why they refused an official explanation to us. Plus holding my PTPTN form like it's their god-given rights. I hope this matter is caused by the incompetent/confused staffs.
This is about a shady college who is probably cheating prospective students and getting away with it[Reason so was given by the college ex-employee.] Their modus operandi is easy since the amount in question is the registration fee of RM500, no one will bother to complain. I know there are more people out there in my situation but this is a small place, it's not easy to locate anyone in the same boat as me. I know I'm not the only one after one of the workers admitted that I'm not the first to meet them angrily on this matter. I'm not seeking sympathy, this is just a friendly warning/reminder.

Moral of the story: When an offer is too good to be true...then it is!
Do not play into anyone's tactic by signing up on the spot
Always cross-check PTPTN's website
Check the college's website to determine its credibility
If they're pushing too much for you to start paying first...suspect something.
~First say, can get full loan only need to pay RM500 registration fee. Suddenly say need RM16,000. Even had the guts to request installments.

I cannot reveal the name of the college since it'll definitely land be in hot soup. The moderator advised me to bring this to Malay Mail or Tony Pua but I decided against it since it'll be a long and arduous process. I might however scan in my offer letter and write a complain to Tony Pua soon.

Don't kill me, I know it's my fault for being naive after all I received the offer about 3 hours after collecting my SPM results. Obviously, not thinking right.
No worries, it's a darn small unknown college but never let your guard down!

Below is the PM I sent to a moderator weeks ago.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Hi, back in March after I got my result I went to *censored* to talk about admission info. They told me the faster I pay them RM500, the faster they'll send my PTPTN form so I have higher chances[100%] of receiving loan. After paying RM500, they told me they'll submit my PTPTN form[including offer letter] in 2 weeks time but when we asked them in mid April they told us that they'll only send my form on 30th of June. Doesn't make sense since they told us differently during pre-registration and this is misleading. Now they want us to pay on our own while waiting for approval. About RM16,000 for first year. I'm not satisfied since they lied to us and their officers are missing every time we called. The lady, Ms. Alicia who talked to me earlier has resigned 1 week ago.

Right now, we're planning to bring this matter to court. I know Rm500 may sound little. Even more expensive to bring this to court but right now they're fooling us. En.Adnan told my mum that this is their marketing strategy; that is they'll never let students know the actual date they send the PTPTN form. So, even himself admit they lied to us. They're preying on our emotions by blatantly lying to us; pay RM500 ASAP to ensure we send your form the same week!

Reply from mod

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Well, there's few option. But obviously, if you are trying to claim back the RM500, most likely will go through the consumer (KPDNHEP) court I guess since the amount is little, but you might not win it though, as they will need black and white. The other options you have is to find those who are in same boat as you, and pressure the administration group. Eitherway, I advise you to find your local Member of Parliaments(you might find Tony Pua as he's one of the one who have interest in Education in Malaysia, and might expose it in his another blog pertaining to Malaysian Education) and ask for his help. Worst case to worst, bring this whole matter to the press. I know The Malay Mail for example, will take this case, and surely the admin will have to answer them and reply to you. Please bear in mind that you might be *forced* to pay up the studies fees, or the best case that you can nego since they failed to fulfill their part is delaying the payment until PTPTN money arrives.

This goes for most people who are not from a rich family. You know your parents won't be able to afford your tertiary education, when someone offer you a place at a college and assure you 100% PTPTN loan approval it's just too tempting to say "NO". I know I was being naive by agreeing on the spot and it was probably what I deserved for letting my guard down. Their tactic is pressuring interested students to sign up on the spot by toying with PTPTN's...it's like the moment you pay them RM500 they'll produce an offer letter and give you the PTPTN form ASAP. Then they PROMISE THEIR OFFICER WILL PERSONALLY DELIVER THE LETTER TO PTPTN.*
*My fault for not cross-checking PTPTN's website, since the website stated CLEARLY..."No personal letter/request will be entertained".

Then they started pressuring us into paying the full amount. To them it's take it or leave it. The RM500 is non-refundable. After knowing that we tried to get in contact with the officer in charge, but he was missing and never in the office. They're no longer interested in my case. I'm no longer interested either.

It's no longer about the money lost, it's about my broken heart. After all, they preyed on my insecureness. I was nervous since my main concern is not getting the loan to further my education. They obviously see through my worries and took full advantage of it.

PS. No such thing as 100% loan approval.
