Why wasn't Tony Pua given bigger role in PH govt?

Umno nemesis Tony Pua is back. One of my favorite politicians. He was the chief imdb kleptocrat hunter but was not given enough credit for work he did. Why wasn't he made deputy minister or minister in previous PH govt? What is the story?

It is up to Agong now. What will Agong do ?

If PN had 115 before, it now has 103 (and dropping every hour). PH has 105 (and increasing every hour) and Anti-Moo Umno 12 (led by Zahid) so total 220 (excluding 2 vacant MP seats)

If Moo still act like buffalo and does not resign gentlemanly tomorrow, Agong will call MPs in PN to ask them personally whether they still support Moo. Once Agong confirms Moo has no majority, Agong will ask Moo to resign.

Agong can either appoint interim PM who will run country until GE15 next year. This interim PM need not be MP who has support of most MPs. This is usually experienced veteran so may possibly be Tun or Ku Li

Or Agong may ask any MP who he thinks has support of majority of MP to form govt. Excluding the 12 Umno MP, number of MPs between PH and PN is very close, so Agong may ask someone from PH or PN to form govt.

DG Noor Hisham credibility and popularity crashing

Kelvin Yii: Health DG justifying Parliament closure with wrong science

Director-General of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is using unnecessary scientific parameters to justify closing Parliament, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said.
Yii, who is a medical doctor and the chair of the parliamentary select committee on health, said the “CT level” cited by Noor Hisham to justify closing Parliament for two weeks is not a metric for public health decision-making.
“IT IS A VIROLOGY TOOL RATHER THAN A METRIC TO MAKE DECISIONS ON HOW LONG A LOCATION MUST BE CLOSED,” SAID YII IN A STATEMENT TODAY.

“As long as the patient is properly isolated, and all other SOPs are properly adhered to, the source of transmission is isolated thus mode of transmission is cut. There is no logically explanation why the Parliament cannot continue to function, especially four days after the detected cases.”

Noor Hisham in a statement last night spoke about the cycle threshold, or CT value, which is used to assess the viral load in a sample.
He said samples of several positive cases detected in Parliament last week showed a low CT value, which meant the cases had a high viral load and thus a greater risk of virus transmission.

Yii said the Health Ministry had never before been seen to make public health decisions based on the CT value.

“The D-G and MOH must answer when has MOH (started) using the CT value to make public health decisions. Please show us hard data and not just give general statements.”

Yii added that Parliament could have proceeded today with adjustments to the environmental factors that Noor Hisham said he was concerned about.

For one, ventilation in Parliament could have been improved.

“There isn’t a need to close down the whole Parliament for two weeks just to deal with 0.9% of positive cases in Parliament,” said Yii.

“The Ideal Convention Centre vaccination centre in Shah Alam closed only for a day for sanitisation after 200 plus Covid cases were detected.

“In many essential service facilities also deal with daily positive cases but yet after all necessary SOPs are adhered to, their functions are not drastically disrupted.

“Why can’t this be done in Parliament? Science and public health must be apolitical.”

Yii added the government could have taken advantage of the Parliament sitting to assure the people that its national recovery plan to reopen economic sectors and workplaces was effective.

“Instead, the shutdown of Parliament has exemplified incompetency and decision-making that is not science-based.”

The Dewan Rakyat sitting on Thursday was adjourned several times for the MPs and parliament staff to be screened out after people in the building were found to be infected following a screening that was conducted before the sitting began on July 26.

The House was finally adjourned to today for the government to explain the cancelling of emergency ordinances. But on Saturday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the sitting was postponed, citing the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

https://www.themalaysianinsight.com/s/330858

Everyone (Agong, rakyat, MPs) all want Moo to QUIT

A constitutional crisis can have its upsides. Sarawak Report is not referring to the Law Minister having a heart attack nor to the attempted flight of the toady Speaker to foreign parts: it settles matters, hopefully for the best.

Malaysia is a young democracy meaning that certain boundaries must still be tested and conventions established and today and this weekend through various clear and irrefutable methods the people of Malaysia and their Parliamentarians showed what they will not tolerate and why.

The crowning moment came today following brave street protests by young people and an outpouring on social media, when the MAJORITY of members of Parliament demonstrated their numbers in person by walking in defiance of riot police threatening tear gas and water cannons to the gate of their own building which a minority usurper had slammed shut.

Crucially, these ‘opposition’ MPs, who now count themselves to be at least 114 out of 220, have received the open backing of the King who has rightly demanded that the prime minister he originally appointed should submit himself to a vote of parliament to test his discredited claim to hold its confidence.

The PM has refused, claiming a sudden threat from “super-spreader individuals” apparently identified in last week’s Covid screen of Parliament… brought to the attention of MPs shortly after the King’s critical speech was read out on the floor of the House and a panicking deputy Speaker suspended proceedings.

The country thinks this prime minister has played the Covid card much too often to avoid his democratic accountabilities and all the while the disease has got worse along with people’s lives in general.

So here is the crisis to be resolved. On the one hand you have a minority prime minister appointed by the King who has now openly withdrawn that approval. Backing him are a fractious bunch of disunited and discredited MPs (many facing charges) plus his appointed functionaries, including an unelected Speaker who has played the enemy to the lower house instead of leading it.

Mahiaddin’s team also includes a craven Director General of Health who changes his advice to suit his boss’s politics and an IGP who was today prepared to have his men point water cannon in the faces of representatives of the people as they walked peacefully through the streets of their own capital towards their own seat of governance.

Hmm. On the other side are the majority of elected MPs, The King and the people. Not only does this representative challenge hold moral legitimacy in the context of a democracy, but they have the Constitution on their side:

The King appointed Mahiaddin and he consented to the State of Emergency, but both need to be tested by a vote of Parliament which the King has demanded the prime minister should do. However, the prime minister has refused. That is unconstitutional.

Citing his Director General of Health the prime minister has reneged on a promise he made (according to the King) to hold that vote. Through an attempt at a legal sleight of hand he pretended he had ‘revoked’ the emergency instead, although in fact he merely let it lapse thereby allowing the emergency provisions (including his freedom to loot the nation’s coffers) to continue for a further six months.

That was the confrontation, so how has it been playing out as the two sides stare each other down after a weekend of to-ing and fro-ing by ministers and the like?

First move: it has emerged the Law Minister who fronted all these outrages on behalf of Mahiaddin, had collapsed with a heart attack on Friday after the King thunderously called him out on all these lies. For a lawyer, even of the slipperiest kind, that dressing down was the stuff of professional nightmares and the country all applauded.

Next, it emerged the Speaker, who had until Sunday been scheduled to perform his extremely well rewarded job ie to supervise a crucial sitting of Parliament that he had put off till Monday, turned out to have been planning to attend another pressing engagement abroad that day (trip aborted last minute).*

The Director General of Health, meanwhile has gone from Hero to Zero on social media.

Young folk hit the streets in defiance of his ludicrously conflicting and plainly political constraints and given they behaved so well and had the country rooting for them the police dared not hurt them.

And now today, despite the jaded cynicism of the nation, the opposition majority of MPs did the needful. They showed courage and they showed unity and they demonstrated their majority in the only way they were able by marching in unison and counting their numbers outside their gate.

The momentum is clear, the popular view is clear and the King is clear. Today, the leaders of the opposition, including Anwar Ibrahim who heads the largest group, made clear they are now being approached by those fleeing the sinking ship.

This Constitutional crisis is being resolved and the right precedents and principles are being set. It may not turn out to have been so bad after all if a majority of MPs moves forward to solve the people’s problems at last.

[*This is updated and corrected as we understand the Speaker in the end was not able to fly out last night.]

I am not a lawyer but lawyer Zaid Ibrahim thinks Agong can call Anwar to form Govt now if he thinks Anwar has support of majority of MPs. Which also means Agong thinks Muhyiddin no longer has support of majority of MPs.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...t-pm-says-zaid/

Kudos to MCA Youth leader asking Moo to QUIT

We need more young people like Daniel Wa (even though his mosquito party MCA is part of illegitimate backdoor PN govt) to speak truth to power and ask PM Moo to step down. Even though his MCA boss and PN servant, Wee Ka Siong will likely fire Daniel soon. Or Moo will fire Wee.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/585458
An MCA Youth leader has broken ranks with his party to speak out against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, calling for his resignation.
Perak MCA chief Daniel Wa Wai How said Muhyiddin should make way for a more qualified candidate to lead the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We can't see a clear direction from the country due to the political crisis eroding the effectiveness of the government.
"For me, personally, the prime minister should respectfully resign so that he can be replaced with a new prime minister," he told Sinar Harian.
The Malay daily said Wa suggested that the new prime minister's term is capped at six months to oversee efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic before the 15th general election is called.
Wa, who is also the MCA Youth secretary, was quoted as saying that Muhyiddin should realise that he has failed as the Covid-19 pandemic worsens.
Wa noted that major factories are being allowed by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) to operate despite multiple Covid-19 clusters in such places.
In contrast, he said small and medium business owners are unable to earn an income while having to grapple with their commitments such as rent and utilities.
"For me, Malaysians need a leader who can lead the war against Covid-19 and revive the national economy, not a leader who uses the emergency to extend his time in power," Wa, who is also in the MCA central committee.
Among the possible replacements, he suggested Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is appealing his graft conviction.
While Umno is split over its allegiance to Muhyiddin, other BN component parties including MCA have largely toed the line and backed Muhyiddin.
MCA has two parliamentarians, namely Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong, who is also the MCA president, and Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng

Writing is on wall for backdoor PM Muhyiddin. Outwardly Umno ministers show public support for him but they are just waiting for right time to launch coup of backdoor coup master.
Muhyiddin fiasco with Agong has erodes his power with Agong no longer supporting him. Umno and other PN parties are closing in on him to handover PMship to DPM Ismail Sabri.
https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...prime-minister/
We will see new interim PM (likely to be Ismail Sabri) before National day 31 Aug2021.
Will be huge disgrace and fall from grace for Muhyiddin as he will not get Tunship from Agong which is automatic award for all past PMs.

Is PN govt doing good job handling covid-19?

Is PN govt doing good job handling covid-19? Or still sleeping?
The wheels are falling off. Everyday we hear more and more bad news. More and more cases everyday and rarely dropped below 1000 daily cases for last 2 months. Some more now with more local transmissions. More variants, more clusters, new variants. Too slow in bringing in vaccine that Malaysia will be at least few months behind neighboring countries in getting vaccinated
Seems to be getting worse and everyday we are hearing all kinds of excuses from Health Ministry, ministers to explain away their screwups.
Are they putting the best team, best experts and best talent to find solutions to keep covid-19 under control? Are there better people, better talent who can do better job? Should the ministers and the team in charge of covid-19 be sacked and replaced?
