Increase in car road noise

Hi all,

It's been almost 6 months since I have changed my rims. Since then the road noise in my car has increased considerably.

I am driving a 2013 Honda Civic FB and rolling on Michelin PS3 (stock) with an aftermarket 17x8 rim. FYI, stock rim specs is 17x7. After changing to a slightly wider aftermarket rim I have noticed that road noise has increased considerably. I tried soundproofing my car by spraying some kind of rubber spray at my wheel arch but to no avail the sound is still there.

Do any of you face this kind of problem after changing to a slightly wider aftermarket rim? I'm still on my stock 215/45 R17 PS3 so it is slightly stretch with 17x8 rim which is still within the recommended width. There is still 60% tyre thread left. I even asked my rim seller if it's because of the wider rim and he says no... According to him I did not change the width of the tyre or go low profile so there should not be any difference even though my rim has gone wider.

I could not stand the road noise anymore as it is really getting into me especially when I am driving above 100 - 120 kmh on highways. If the problem lies from the wider rim then I will just change it back to my stock rim or find a rim that has the same spec as my stock rims. Or could it be my tyre?

Please advise.

Goodyear F1A2 vs Michelin Primacy 3 ST

Hi guys, I'm planning to change my car tyres.

Currently using Michelin PS3 215/45 R17 on my Civic FB.

Has 30k km on it but the road noise has increase considerably. It may be due to me changing to a wider rims (17x8) also

Anyway, I'm planning on changing to either the Goodyear F1A2 or Michelin Primacy 3 ST. Both these tyres will be on 225/45 R17.

I know these two tyres are on a different category but which would you choose for reduce road noise and some performance as compared to PS3?

My driving style:
Occasionally do some spirited driving
Cruising 120 - 150kmh (max) on highway
Hardly corner at high speed (around 60-70kmh)

WTA Honda Civic FB

Dear sifus,

I'm driving a 2013 Honda Civic FB and there is a weird noise coming out from the drivers side dashboard/ somewhere underneath.

The sound can only be heard if I am driving on an uneven road, accelerating from a standstill and taking corners at a slow speed.

The noise can already be heard for quite some time but its really bugging me now and I would like to fix it.

I've send my car to Honda SC before but they were unable to find a solution, also due to me modding my anti roll bar they are reluctant to proceed any further.

Any drivers or Honda drivers experience this before and know the caused of it?

Some of my car mods:
Ultra racing anti Roll bar
Ultra racing front strut bar (tried to loosen the screw for this but the sound is still there)
Stiff ring (can this be the cause? according to my mechanic he says that it most probably not because he has heard no such complaint before)
