English Qualifications For Admission Into USM/UM

Hello everyone, I have completed my Australian Year 12 program last year and received my ATAR(98.05) about a month ago. My current plan is to pursue a degree in Accounting & Finance and among one of my choices of institution is USM, due to it being close by(I am a Penangite) and also being cheap compared to other private institutions in terms of tuition fees and rent.

However, I do not possess a MUET qualification and have missed out on the November registration for the March session MUET exam. The next MUET session is the July session, where registrations would close at mid February. According to the USM admissions website, applicants are able to submit their MUET results after their applications, but they have to submit it as soon as possible after receiving it. The problem with this, however, is that the final part of the MUET July session exam is at the beginning of August(according to the MUET website). With the results of applications being released at the beginning of August, it would be impossible to get my MUET results before then.

It is also stated on the USM website that equivalent qualifications could be accepted. Besides my SPM English qualifications and English 1119(both of which I don't think USM considers as equivalent qualifications), my only other English qualification is a Band 5 in English as a Second Language(a compulsory subject in Australian Year 12 programs). Anyone knows if this would be accepted as an equivalent qualification? Or if not, is applying for IELTS my only choice?

I have utilized the search function and I have gathered that UM, among several other IPTAs has also recently started to accept qualifications that are not STPM/Matriculation. Therefore, I would have also like to try my luck at UM, however, unlike USM, their website does not state that they accept English qualifications that are equivalent to MUET. Again, does anyone know if this is a slight or is it that they really don't accept equivalent English qualifications? Are there any cases where one does manage to get into an IPTA without first obtaining one's MUET results?

I have sent an E-mail to USM's admissions office a month ago, however, to date, I have yet to receive a reply. I would really appreciate it if anyone on this forum who has managed to get into these institutions with non-STPM/Matriculation qualifications or those who has knowledge on this could reply on how they got in/how to get in. Thanks in advance and have a good day.

Hybrid car battery

Hi guys, I'm asking on behalf of my Uncle who is planning to buy a Honda Civic 1.5 Hybrid. He has some doubts on hybrid batteries and would like to know if the battery will "lose power" after a few years and result in more fuel consumption. Anyone who own hybrid cars wanna shed some light on this? Thanks

Opinions Pre-U for Accounting and Finance

Hi guys, so I'm a Form 5 student who is going to take the SPM examinations in a month time. Did somewhat ok in my trials(6A+) but I fear the KPM Bursary might just be out of my reach, due to being weak in Chinese and just 'A' grade level in BM. I would like to continue my studies in Accounting and Finance after this and I have been looking at relevant threads over the past few months(search function has also been utilized). I am from Penang and my plan was to pursue A-levels at INTI if I were to get 9A+ and then get a degree in Curtin, Sunway or Taylors. Even if I fail to get the Bursary, my parents can afford the A-level fees, but I would not want to burden them and save the money where possible.

Thus, I have a few options after SPM and I would like to ask for opinion on which path to take :

1. CAT(or whatever it's called now) and then ACCA from TARC (along with the Oxford Brookes degree) and maybe take a reputable MBA sometime in the future. Now, from what I have read, while a professional paper is highly regarded, getting a Degree would be a great chance to learn presentation skills, writing thesis and soft skills. I have also read that a Degree + ACCA is better compared to ACCA only? Also, I am not sure if ACCA is available in the Penang campus.

2. STPM > Degree. Its simple enough, cheap and affordable, only problem for me is that commerce in Form 6 is in BM?

3. Diploma in TARC then credit transfer to Curtin/Taylors/Sunway. I'm leaning towards this at the moment and from what I gathered, as long as I have a good CGPA in my diploma, I can start in Year 2 in these institutions? Anyone who went down such a path can share their experience please?

4. A-levels anyways and then Degree. Well, nothing much to say on this.

5. Foundations and then degree. Well, this will certainly be shorter, but at the same time, way more expensive as most institutions are not in Penang and living cost would add a large sum.

Anyone mind giving their 2 cents on this matter? Your opinion would be highly valued. Thanks.
