Men Apparel Outlets (PROPER kind)

Ok I hope this thread doesn't get blocked, I am not including any link or URL, just wanted a thread to find independent outlets that sell mens apparel that began with blogshops or even if they didnt. Because finding affordable men's clothing at nice cutting can be such a pain.

I am only going to include an example so people get the idea of what I am trying to comply, one good example would be Rumors at Bangsar, brother blogshop/site/business to another of its own kind, except their foremothers deal with female apparel.

And by affordable I mean like bottoms (jeans included) with nice cutting for not more than RM100.. and tops for long sleeves not going for more than RM80..

would be good to know more of these independent/start-up outlets..

so any to suggest guys? if you're wondering where is the location of the outlet I mentioned please google it urself. there's a reason why they did not allow advertising on the forum..

cheers guys, let's keep the thread clean yeah?

Student Budget Used Car

hey guys,

if this thread seems familiar, it actually is, but I am not allowed to bump nor do I intend to do so but I still have questions regarding getting a used car for a budget around 5k-15k tops.

If the car is 11k onwards I would have to take a loan, so far that means most probably that car would have to be a Kelisa.

If the car is anything below that, I suppose parents can pay for it, I really need it for city drive to campus but sumtimes highway cuz sumtimes i travel from subang-kl n vice versa. but for that kinda money it is pretty tough to find a car with the rough spec below

budget: refer to above
transmission : AT
type : NA
make/model: doesnt matter as long as it fulfills the criteria above

that is option #1, if I get the car to drive. another is dad hands me down a proton Waja, he gets a 2nd hand car for himself to drive to work, that 1 that he wants to get can b 2nd hand, unlike mine gotta b auto lol.

please advise. would rly appreciate any advice cuz gotta settle this dilemma asap n engage with owners/dealers..

thanks guys

Tight Budget Used Car

extracted from the recommendation thread..

1. Brand : Preferably local or japanese brand.
2. Budget : 5k-15k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : Basic spec will do.
5. Transmission : Preferably auto.
6. NA or FI : what?
7. Type : 4 seat
8. Remarks : Basically looking for a used car for city drive, looking to travel around KL/PJU/PJS from campus to home n vice versa. What I really seek in the used car is low fuel consumption, safe and mediocre maintenance upkeep. So at least the car should be in good condition, relatively low-average fuel consumption and maintenance upkeep shouldn b too high..

So far I've only found a few that caught my eye but dont rly noe the prices nor their FC.. Please advise n share your opinions!

Iswara (2nd gen saga) - 5.5k
Satria 1.6 (mivec/4g92p engine) - 8.8k
Savvy (manual) - 12k
Kelisa - 15k

If you've got more imnfo or any advice, itll b much appreciated! Thanks!

Hipster

Hipster, apparently today's style of the sophisticated.. and no I'm not just talking about just skinny jeans and slim fit Tees or checked shirts with boat shoes/TOMS/sneakers.. the setting is usually casual yet you can tell they are dressed real smart, like how some guys dont look capalang in flip flops.

Anyways I've noticed these fashionable people mostly in more sophisticated areas ie Singapore, during Urbanscapes event in KL, palate pallette, around Bangsar, Pavilion and The Gardens..

My main question though is where do these people get their clothes from? Also, is there a place that we can buy them for a decent price? For me, the price they charge in Topshop in Msia is already pretty ridiculous especially since this is going to be a variety of clothes that will mark the renewal of my wardrobe. Even for a week's worth of daily different clothing if every outfit were to be at the price of Topshop it would be quite pain.. worst part is some of these clothing are pretty basic pieces ie basic shorts, 7/8's, skinny jeans, plain tees.. yet theyre so overpriced, and for those places where these pieces can be found at rm30-50 each, their cutting is just dam off..

So for those who dress as I defined, do shed some light on this will ya? Cuz apart from Topshop the other outlets I know that MAY have styles like this are only Cotton On, Pull n Bear, Uniqlo, Zara.. would love to hear your opinions on this guys! Cheers!

Mass Communication Degree

Hey guys,

kinda need some advise from the sifus n sizehs here! My gf from SG graduated from her diploma in a private college recently n applied to RMIT and Monash university, to which she got accepted into, however the thing is she feels she isn't ready to go to aus just yet (family reasons) and decided that she will want to pursue her Degree in Mass Communication in Malaysia first. Which comes down to 2 universities - Taylor's or Monash.

Taylor's offers a course that is somewhat to what she wants, communication n media management.. however it is a twinning with UniSA in Adelaide - she wants to go to Melbourne. Monash is in Melbourne - but dam far from the city. Also if not mistaken if the course is done in Monash malaysia they only offer a short exchange programme, not really a twinning? Correct me if I am wrong..

Now she's got this dilemma, not sure of which to choose.. on one hand Monash IS the more prestigious degree course.. the other, Taylor's offers the twinning.. she also considered maybe doing Taylor's and then doing a credit transfer to either RMIT or Monash.. but how will that go.. it's really uncertain.. so if anyone has personal experience on these 2 degree programmes, please shed some light! I've gone thru previous ppl sharing about the Taylor's course, not much tho, but it seems that Taylor's maybe more hands on n practical n vocational whereas Monash maybe more academical.. then again Monash has a more attractive 'passport' to a mass comm career..

please advise! thanks in advance!

Finding our passion-driven career

merry christmas guys! you guys are so blessed to have these threads.. hoping this 1 will be a great QnA/FAQ for most school leavers, as I only recently learnt the importance of finding a passion-driven career through my regrets and hope that other graduates in the future do not end up doing something they dread or would be sien of everyday..

I really wish I did have threads like these then to help me decide what kind of engineering to pursue, I dove into a specialized degree rather than a general one.. currently in my final year of materials and manufacturing engineering in UTAR setapak..

I am worried about my job prospects.. also, I've been just barely surviving my engineering degree (really bad ard +/- 2.0cgpa), probably bcuz it isnt truly my passion. I am in the course cuz my parents (dad actually) dont exactly recognize the prospects for my other interests ie mass comm related activities, psychology related studies and entrepreneurial stuff.. I totally understand that noone would want to hire someone to the company that just 'gets by', they would obviously prefer one that can excel in their field and perform well and complete tasks assigned to them..

any suggestions on what areas of engineering I can pursue in this field? also how is the job prospect of engineers in Australia/Melbourne? I may be considering to find a job there (highly unlikely due to my mediocre cgpa so far) or if I may.. continue studying.. either a masters/degree in a diff field..

really appreciate any help.. thanks..

I'm currently doing my bachelor deg in engineering in UTAR.. my CGPA is crap.. lets just say below average.. my industrial training is sometime in October, wondering if anyone has any tips on applying for an internship with bad grades like mine ><

Oh and I plan to apply to singapore to do my internship... big companies are definitely out of the question but ill do whatever I can and look for as many companies as I can.. any comments or suggestions? rly appreciate any!

Have you GOMAD?

Hey guys,

I wanna know if anyone of you actually tried GOMAD or is still on GOMAD? I'm on my first week, great so far - gained 2kg and going to increase my milk intake gradually. Problem is, milk is not exactly cheap haha - so does anyone know of suppliers or wholesale for that matter?

Another thing, going by the rule of 1-1.5g protein per pound of bodyweight, how much is necessary for the tissue recovery n muscle growth? I heard its at least 1.. then what happens to the excess protein if we take more than 1.5g? Cuz my protein intake everyday is 140g, I'm 60kg atm. GOMAD currently is at 1L per day which is 30g protein per day, if its at 2L itll be 60g, and I still continue to eat the same amount, meaning my protein intake will increase by 30g per week, does it enhance growth or something? Cuz I've heard stories about enormous growth within a month via GOMAD.

Pardon me for overanalysing and calculating. I'm still eating as much as I can tho, just wanted to clear the air about this.

Blackberry Troubleshooting

Hey guys,

im in a bit of a situation here. I tried to update my bb's OS without doing research prior to that. I had to pay a huge price, my device is now nuked as they say. It only has error 205, which eventually became error 507. I searched online for methods to fix this issue. Found a solution and attempted it. I managed to get my DM to install the OS back to my bb, but when it reaches almost the last process where it shows initializing JVM or something, where it actually boots my bb back on.. I get a Windows - No Disk error

When I still had my OS functioning, when I had that issue my bb would be prompting if I want to revert to Mass Media Storage mode kinda thingy, then I would press yes and that dreaded No Disk pop up would finally be gone. Now I have no idea how to solve this. Apparently there are methods to fix the No Disk pop up, via regedit and all. My com cant access cmd prompt to do so.. Anyone have any suggestions how I can reinstall my 8900? Im currently attempting on another com, to diagnose whether it is my USB cable's issue, or something else.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

PS: we oughta have a thread like this, dedicated to fatal errors. Like literally fatal. I hope I didn't ter-kill my berry

Injuries Q & A

Hey guys,

I was searching for a thread had info on recovering from workout pains/injuries. Currently I'm suffering from my hamstring pains caused by DLs. I've never really did a 5 rep DL in gym. It was my first time, but I've been practising the form for quite awhile, there was no pain throughout the entire exercise, just the great sensation of ur hamstrings burning through the workout. Back was straight throughout.

The problem started when I woke up the next day though. Tried to flex my hamstrings, via getting into DL position and it hurt like mad. The hamstrings only. It was so bad that i couldnt squat for my next workout. Im suppose to squat again today, any suggestions on how to allow my hamstrings to recuperate and recover after the next time I DL? And should I squat today? Can it actually be done with the hamstrings hurting like that? Full squats btw. Thanks a lot guys..

Hey guys, I've been going to gyms irregularly, working out but only failing to commit to my workout/diet plan. Only to realise that because I didn't have a log. So I'm starting one here, cuz I kinda frequent LYN. I've learnt a lot from LYN, not just health and fitness and I hope that maybe sharing my experience, skinny people like me don't have to waste time wandering and failing to commit to plans but get the best out of them instead. I'm just starting out but I definitely owe LYN a lot, so I hope to give back to LYN (some day, with results), the same way a lot of the experienced lifters here have shared their insight!

Body Type : Ectomorph (with endomorph tendencies, belly fat enveloping ab outlines)
Height : 180cm
Weight : 58kg
Body Fat : no idea, but according to BMI, it's 17.9 - UNDERWEIGHT.
Goals :
Hit 65kg before June 2010 with at least the outline of my used-to-be abs
Get stronger and lift heavier, increase in muscle mass
No longer look like skin n bones wit a tummy by end of this year.

31/3/10

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

BodyWeight: 60kg

Current Stats:
Squats 60kg
Bench 40kg
Deadlift 50kg
Press 27.5kg

Newly Added Goals :
Squat 1.5x my bodyweight,DL 1.5x my bodyweight and do 5 reps of chinup/pullup in a set before June 2010.

7/6/10 - before stopping 5x5

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

BodyWeight: 61kg

Current Stats:
Squats 67.5kg
Bench 42.5kg
Deadlift 60kg
Press 30kg

Newly Added Goals:
Weigh 67kg by end of July

Note: ITS JUNE. Chose it because of its simplicity and because I complicate plans that have more isolation exercises instead of those incorporating compound movement. Today, until the end of this week (hopefully) or the next, my goal is to fix my form in the exercises involved ie squats, DL, inverted row etc.. It's not easy because I've never really done free weights, I used to do machines a lot. Anyways, I really appreciate any form of constructive criticism and comments! Thanks for even bothering to read this!

Monday, 1/2/2010

0835 - My morning ritual of cup of fresh fruit juice (self made) and protein+meal replacement shake (25g of protein)
0920 - Wantan mee small. My back is not rounding, I extend my hips out to lower myself but I dont feel the muscles on hamstring and glutes contracting.. squatting not deep enough?

Bench Press
Empty bar (20kg?) 5/5
Smith Machine 5/5/5
(changed to smith, cuz I was worried my form was wrong)

Inverted Row
Could not find a place to do.. Not sure what to replace this with, but I did lat pull downs

Push ups 8/8/6

Reverse Crunches (not really sure how to do, still learning)
Went with Decline crunches 12/12/12

Very bad way to start off the week. I think I'll actually seriously 100% stick to the plan after CNY, for now it's learning proper form. Please comment! Thanks!

PS: It's my first time working out at a ghetto gym, Iron Gym Fitness at Desa Setapak (v2 that row, above carrefour express) - felt very intimidated (hence the weird workout behaviour) and I don't have a gym partner. No excuses though, hope to get to know the people there more often. I cycle between Iron Fitness and Top Gym, both on the same row of shops.

My gf is in SG so yeah, explains the heavy SMSing.. we sms ALMOST as though we're in the same country, ignoring the RM0.20 sen per sms rate. For her side its $.15. My bills would come up to RM 100ish per month, when I was only using RM50 plan.. parents cant handle that...and I did my research and found most (maybe all actually) international SMS for any plan is flat, RM0.20 per sms. I was wondering what would you guys recommend? Hoping to cut down my monthly international SMS expenditure. Or is there another provider out there, not a local one that may be able to provide cheaper international SMSes?

For those people in long distance relationships, would love to hear your opinions on this!

Anyways, thank you for your time. Any help is really really appreciated.
