Fourteen Things You Should Never Include in Resume

Fourteen Things You Should Never Include in Your Resume

There are some things you should never include in your resume. The following list will prevent you from making these resume blunders.

1) The Reason You Left the Job

Save this information for the interview. Whether you left the job in order to advance your career, or you were terminated, explanations on paper (or computer screen) have to be far too brief to give a future employer a favorable impression. At an interview, you are far more likely to be able to place a good spin on even an unpleasant termination.

2) References

Never list your references on the resume. In fact, most employers don't even want to see "References Available on Request" anymore. Everyone knows that they are. You should prepare a separate reference sheet and have it ready for your interview.

3) Certain Personal Information

The only personal information you should include on your resume is the address where you receive mail, phone and fax numbers and your email. Never include your social security number (an employee could steal it). Information about your physical appearance or health just isn’t appropriate. While discrimination based on age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender and religion is illegal, details pertaining to such should be avoided unless they are directly relevant to the job you're applying for. If the information is directly relevant (i.e. an ordained minister searching for another ministry), include it only if you are certain the information will not create bias.

4) High School If You Graduated From Any Other Program

If you have a college degree or advanced certificate, drop the high school information. It's assumed that you must have obtained a GED or high school diploma in order to progress on to college coursework.

5) Salary Information

Not only does this information clutter up a resume, it could eliminate you from consideration if deemed too high or too low for the position you're seeking. Save salary discussions until the interview. If the job posting asks you to provide an expected salary, include this information in your cover letter. However, if possible, simply write "competitive" or "negotiable" instead of assigning a dollar figure.

6) Anything That Is False

Make your resume as accurate as possible. Inconsistencies between your resume and your interview could cost you a job.

7) Exact Dates

Using exact dates clutters up a resume. Unless you are asked to provide exact dates (usually a feature only seen on online fill-in forms) use months and years. Employment dates expressed in years only is also acceptable and beneficial if you have short gaps in employment.

8) The Date You Prepared the Resume

Not only is this unnecessary information, it dates your resume. You want a potential employer to feel like you have focused your resume on them specifically. If you date your resume, it could give away the fact that you're really using a resume you've sent to hundreds of other employers.

9) Professional Jargon

Your resume may be screened by someone in human resources who has no idea what you are talking about. Sure, you might think your resume is going to be read by someone in the know, but why take chances? At the same time, if the job posting uses certain industry-specific acronyms, mirror the company's lead. This will show your sensitivity to the company's style and increase the likelihood that keywords from your resume will match keywords of the job posting.

10) Fancy Paper

Stick with a quality bond paper in either plain white or ivory. Only artists can get away with other colors, and even they have to remember that resumes are often photocopied. Nothing will be worse for making that first impression than a photocopied resume that doesn't have a clean, organized impact.

11) Photographs

Unless you're applying for a position as a model, actor or television news anchor, don't include a photograph of yourself in your resume. The practice of including a photograph is dated, requires the use of prime resume real estate and simply is not applicable.

12) Availability

Save the subject of availability for the interview. Do not include dates of availability on your resume.

13) Mandates or Demands

Never make mandates or demands on your resume. You're selling yourself, not buying an employer. Demands and requests should be saved for the negotiation process only after an offer is made. Your resume should demonstrate what you are able to provide, not what you want an employer to provide to you.

14) The Pronouns "I" or "Me"

Never state, "I accomplished …" Just say, "Accomplished …" This lets the person reading the resume mentally supply "She accomplished …" or "He accomplished …" It also prevents your resume from looking like a "brag sheet."

sos

CDM25 - Wise comment so then i copy

Wise comment so then i copy:

Just 72 hours ago, we probably have the same kind of rude people roaming the streets and highways of Malaysia with all sorts of unbelievable road rage, middle-finger pointing, unnecessary honk blasting, switching lanes with no signals and all.

And suddenly this morning (thanks to the Peugeot lady driver), everyone is now a morale police. Suddenly we talk about respect and love and and patience and insurance and blablabla.

I am NOT siding the lady driver, for the record. I disagree fully with her way. She was rude and a racist. And I hope she learns her lesson.

But to all "tukang komen" on the social media platforms who commented within the so-called capacity of a morale-police;

1. Pointing out why she was wrong is acceptable. But why would you go further and call her with sexually-insinuating deviant names or other deragotory remarks?

Yes, you disagreed with her demeanors, but when you posted such uneducated comments, please know that character-wise, you are not any better than her. You both are just the same; rude and shortsighted and lack patience and disrespectful of Ramadhan. The only difference is that she is at least driving a peugeot and what have you got?

2. Social media users further shared her name, her business details, her hp number etc (thinking that it is justified to do so because apparently the lady was an embbarassment to Malaysians. Or maybe because they find it fun and entertaining to share stuff like that geeeezz!). Oiii, Malaysians!

What if something criminal or felonious happened to her because of YOU sharing her details - do you want to be responsible for that?

I am sure she has over 1000 regrets now (with over 20 000 shares on her video and coverages on online news and blogs etc), but why do you have to go further to torment her like that?
You think she is childish, i think you are childish too.

3. Kepada melayu2 yang bagi komen biadap to the lady - you say she is an embarrasment to the Malays.

Guess what, judging from your comments, you guys are an embarrasment to the Malays too. And judging from the words you used to string your sentences, you are an embarassment to the Malay's intelligence as well.

4. Some suggested for people in Kuantan to threaten/harm her and her CDM25 car. Seriously, with that kind of mentality, how are you better than her?

Don't bring yourself down to the same level of people that you are seemingly condemning.

You can of express your protest in a civic encounter for the sake of overall betterment, but please have some class while you are at it.

SOS

Can you solve this riddle?

Riddle 1
Mr. and Mrs. Smith are having a picnic. They have three sons. Each of their sons are married and have three daughters. How many people are at the picnic?

Riddle 2
A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper, then you have to give me $50 but if I cannot, I will pay you $50." The boy looks around and sees no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less. In the end, the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

Riddle 3
A beggar's brother died but the man who died had no brother. How could this be?

Riddle 4
A man jumps out of a window of a 20-story building. He falls all the way to the ground below, and lands on solid concrete with nothing to cushion his fall. The man gets up, still alive and completely uninjured. How is this possible?

Riddle 5
A man worked at a high security institution. The man tried to log into his computer and the computer denied the password. He then remembered that the passwords to the computers were reset every month for security reasons. He called his boss for his new password.

The man said, "Boss, my old password is out of date."

The boss said, "Yes, it is. The new password is different, but if you listen closely you will be able to figure out the new one. Your new password has the same amount of letters as the old one, and four of the letters are the same."

The man then logged into his computer with no trouble. What was the new password? What was his old?

Riddle 6
A woman was reading in the basement of her house when her husband walked by and, thinking that the basement was empty, switched off the light and closed the door. The woman paused in her reading for a moment then continued. There were no lamps, flashlights, windows or any other form of light in the basement. The light that her husband switched off never came back on. How was she able to continue reading?
