Charity, Religious or NGO workers

Hi LYNers!

Since we all like a good discussion, I thought I'll post this up and get a general opinion on how the majority (or at least, those who will reply) feel about people who choose to work in non-secular organization.

Oh, don't confuse this thread as talking about volunteers. We're talking about people who are with full time appointments in NGOs, charities and religious organisations, like Director of WWF, Police, Army, Pastor, Ulama, Monk, Aid Worker etc etc. They receive a regular salary though the truth is that it is not going to be the reason they are working as they do.

Myself, I'm working in such a capacity and I find it fulfilling. The pay is comparable and the work load is like anywhere else: you have days when work is light and on some days it really piles up. Career growth is there, but don't except a six figure salary and a 7-series as your company car

I don't necessary get a lot of compliments (nor expect them) for what I do. Some people do ask if the reason I switched into this career line is because I had problems working elsewhere. I normally just smile and say I don't. I enjoyed working in MNCs but I enjoy my current profession even more.

So what is your opinion? Are they happy people or delusional?

Note: I know this is in RWI but do keep it as lighthearted as possible, ok? There're already many threads debating God, aliens, nuke etc etc. Let's focus on the people ya?
