Police sergeant inisist me to go to one foreman

The story:
I had a small accident 2 weeks ago. The driver was a Chinese national (from China).
He came out from a junction abruptly while I was on the main road. Thus, my car bumped into his car. My car front bumper got moderately scratched. His car was scratched as well; on the right side, though not as serious as mine (my speed was not very fast at that time).
He claimed that the car he drove was his Company’s car and he was willing to compensate for my car repair.
I was scepticall at that time. For safe side, I decided to make police report and to claim my repair under his car insurance.
Initially, the sergeant in charge of my case informed me that the car he drove was not a company car, instead it was registered under an individual. The sergeant assured me that he will take care of it. More or less a week after the accident, the driver finally lodged a police report.

Now:
After the driver made police report, the sergeant gave me a contact of a foreman and insist me to have my car repair at that foreman’s workshop for claim.
His justification was the foreman helped to get the driver to make police report and the foreman is also an insurance panel.
I have not got the investigation results yet. I was told by the police station to obtain the result on next Monday.

Things now look dodgy for me. I’m not comfortable to send my car to a foreman that I do not know.
What should I do? What are potential consequences that I might face for not following that? What can the sergeant do?
Please help me.
