hi sorry open new thread, not sure to post in asus tred or tplink
been using my home network about 2 years now.
i got no issue. but pipu in my home complain.
about why i suka wifimain, wifiroom, wifikitchen, wifiofis, IOt, guest etc ...
multiple ssid around the property. all got wire backhaul. but all different brand router/model, i bought over the years.

so decided to spent about 1.2k to upgrade to wifi6 minimum with 2 more ap/mesh.
one ring to rule them all. one ssid and one/two guest maybe.

currently i have these two brands/model or router. unsure with mesh/network ecosystem is better.

asus rt-ac5300
deco m9 plus (2unit)

asus more features
no lock paid features (no subscription crap)
more ports
maybe bulky depending on model

deco basic features
newer models have paid features
less ports
app easy to setup and use

aimesh superior or deco?
aimesh works with their router and mesh units.
deco works with deco, no onemesh or omada ap.
aimesh may bug on firmware updates, especially on discontinued models.
read somewhere their guest settings are not really isolated.
what is your experience with aimesh?

tplink maybe lock more features or discontinue their whole deco line or something else.
just like kasa to tapo. no more kasa updates.
otherwise no hassle to setup or use. i think 3 buttons to completely configure.
but less ports, have to get switch. messy.
app really basic.

house spec
about 6000sqft 2 floors
g floor basically living and kitchen area, 2 rooms
1st floor about 7 rooms alot of walls
outside quite big but not priority atm.
about 5 lan outlet around the property. important areas. but i really need 3 or 4 nodes only.
maybe about 30 clients maybe, iot maybe another 15

i have a jellyfin server that anyone i allow can use remotely or local.
very simple nas thing. for personal use locally.

i shortlisted these 2

RT-AX59U
deco xe-75

unsure which hone has the better mesh system
unsure which has better coverage and wall penetration

if i go with one, i probably abandoned the other. or repurpose it.

the only wifi 6e device i have is a mac and iphone pro max
that also i dun really need. cuz im only on a 500mbs package. tm unifi.
more then enough for me. rather up to wifi 7 when its more affordable.

leave the world behind (2023)

Just wanna share this movie i watched a week ago. Would like to hear people's opinion of the movie, perhaps i get some perspective from it.
Based on the title i was expecting a more disaster + end of the world type movie like a mash between, Dont Look Up, and maybe Dante's Peak or 2012 the movie.
Intriguing movie, but not as exciting or blockbuster as most disaster films. Was surprise to learn about obama's involvement in the movie after watching it.
Only watched it because Mahershala ali was in it. Hoping to see another gem like the GreenBook.
The end was quite unsatisfying. This movie is like a roller coaster ride that only climbs up slowly and ends at the top without the drops and dips.
Otherwise, you get a movie with loads of tension building, somewhat contrasting characters to relate with. There is alot of relating to do in this movie to understand or to appreciate this film.
Otherwise is a major let down (for me). But i would give a solid 6/10 cups of kopi.

[YOUTUBE]cMVBi_e8o-Y[/YOUTUBE]

my unoriginal opinion of the movie and minor spoilers.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

writing this as my reaction to the whole KK mart ordeal in malaysia. Little mistake for some, big deal to most. Is this a start or maybe a kindle to something similar like in "leave the world behind" or a repeat of a darker time? Surprise to see this level of reaction from Malaysians when just two years ago a more offensive product from mr diy did not have the same reaction. KK now has apology messages on all their monitors @ cash register. Will see how things develop. Malaysia doesn't feel the same anymore. National and social unity is on the backbench i guess.

this movie was abit annoying at first (for me). slow in the beginning, like most horror movies. to build that tension. you keep wondering.
who is the bad guy. what is the gonna happen. this is a horrow show? disaster show? red dawn? apocalypse?
the director makes you stay in that tension. you keep waiting, expecting the roller coaster ride to actually drop into the exciting part.
but all i got was blueballs in the end. like your partner comes out giving a striptease, you get naked, you watch, you yearn, then your partner was about to grab
ur log buddy, she leaves. and all you can do is stare at the ceiling.

Closing to end of the movie, finally mister mysterious finally spills the tea, what he thinks, what he knows, after both sides finally trusting each other after the whole medicine ordeal with mister " its the K0r3as".
America is in chaos, premeditated. All it needed was one total blackout, for society to collapse. No internet, No radios, No cell tower Signal. Misinformation is rampant, misunderstandings leading to chaos and anarchy.
neighbor against neighbor. Free for all. Obama is involved you say? Looking at America today, from the outside, you would think America is on the brick of civil war, reds and blues, border issues, mistrust of government,
Pray to lord Trump as america's salvation. there are also parallels in the europe, whom are divided on the Ukrainian issue, the Palestinian Issue, even refugees within their countries.

Characters in the movie are suppose to be some stereotyped person you know in your life. Seems silly tho in a disaster film.
the little girl, devout follower of friends the tv show, by being obsessed with friends, she found salvation in the bunker to finally see the end she been yearning for.
the teen son, the 0 f given guy. If the world is ending, why should i care. Im safe, why should i care. seems to have teenage insecurities.
the black teen, comes off like a smartass, because of her age, tho considering everyone is on edge, i find her to be quite empathic and sometimes a little straight forward that puts off people.
black father, burdened with knowledge, dude tries to remain claim for both families while he tries to navigated thru this mess.
white mother, you know people like this. you see it everyday if you interact with enough people. but a mother gonna do what a mother gotta do.
white father, dude really need that holiday, deal with his wife, kids fak knows where, family man, needs a break.

Is there a proper end to this movie? idk didnt read the book. "Ill be there for you" ending just gave me more reason to think there is some NWO cabal influencing and programming people what to think. Plane crash scene was a little exciting, because i downloaded this movie on netlflix to watch on a flight home. Trippy. Then there is that last nuke scene, so many questions, i feel there should be a part2. but cant bare being blueballed again. If there is lesson to all this, be that crazy but prepared guy. If your ready for anything, you wont be caught off guard. and Be more compassionate, more understanding, more tolerant.

Shinzo Abe Crime Scene

Motive Behind Assassination

Abe is part of the Liberal Democratic Party in Jp.
Abe serve as pm in 06 to 07 and 2012 to 2020.
this is not the first attack on LDP members, many assassination attempted before
ranging from bombs, arson, katanas, etc
Abe has ties to many shadow groups in JP
like the Yakuzas, Senior Powermakers (from father's influence), ultra-nationalist ring wing groups like Nippon Kaigi
and even more obscure Religious Cult, dreaming about the returning of the old Imperial Era
Emperor is God, People of japan being a higher being, rest are inferior, sub-human race.
Nippon Kaigi, would be the USA equivalent groups combining MAGA and KKK (nationalism, reverting to old "glory" days, racial supremacist)
Its also fair to say, attacks also came from these group in the early 60s to 70s. Main goal to restore the Emperors political powers.
They started operating in shadows since then.
So really there are two side, A modern Meiji Restoration, and more Anglo-dependent Pacifist. Ofc, im making it sound simple. its actually more complicated.
Prior the Abe hit job, LDP had majority in upper house and lower house in Japan Parliament (the DIET)
Potential of passing bills that would change japan position on militarization and constitution very likely. Mostly conservative, nationalistic,

The alleged assassin who shot dead Shinzo Abe on Friday believed the former Japanese prime minister was involved in a “specific organization” — and that his grudge wasn’t political, police said.

The suspected killer, Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, was tackled to the ground just moments after he allegedly opened fire on the 67-year-old former leader as he delivered a campaign speech in the western region of Nara.

In an interview with investigators, Yamagami allegedly admitted to plotting to kill Abe because he thought the ex-prime minister was connected to an organization that he bore a grudge against.

Police did not reveal the name of the organization or elaborate on what it believed in, adding it wasn’t clear if the group even existed.

The alleged assassin’s grudge did not appear to be about politics, according to police.

Yamagami was calm as he responded to questions during his interview and investigators are still trying to nail down whether he acted alone, police added.

The alleged killer was a Nara resident and had worked at Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Forces for three years, but now appeared to be unemployed, cops said.

Chilling photos and video have emerged that allegedly show Yamagami standing behind Abe just moments before he opened fire with a homemade gun.

Abe, Japan’s longest serving PM, had just started delivering a speech when the initial shot rang out. The politician could be seen clutching his chest and slowly tumbling to the ground as the second shot was fired.

Guards immediately pinned the gunman to the ground and his black, double-barreled weapon was spotted nearby.

Abe was pronounced dead around five and a half hours later after being rushed to hospital where he received more than 100 units of blood in transfusions.

He bled to death from deep wounds to the heart and the right side of his neck, authorities said.

“I am simply speechless over the news of Abe’s death,” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Abe’s protege, said.

“This attack is an act of brutality that happened during the elections — the very foundation of our democracy — and is absolutely unforgivable.”

https://nypost.com/2022/07/08/motive-reveal...-pm-shinzo-abe/

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The man who fatally shot former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has told police that he initially planned to attack a leader of a religious group that he believed caused his mother to become bankrupted through donations, investigative sources said Saturday.

Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, has also admitted that he had intent to kill Abe, believing he had promoted the group in Japan, the sources said. The suspect had repeatedly visited locations where Abe had delivered campaign speeches ahead of Sunday's House of Councillors election.

Abe was pronounced dead Friday, around five hours after being shot from behind during a stump speech near a train station in the western prefecture of Nara. Yamagami was arrested at the scene where he was wielding a homemade gun.

Yamagami has denied he committed the crime because he was opposed to Abe's political beliefs, according to the police.

The police searched his home Friday, finding items that are believed to be explosives and homemade guns, they said.

Yamagami, now unemployed, was working at a manufacturer in the Kansai region from around the autumn of 2020, but he quit in May this year, according to a staffing agency employee. He was previously a member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force for about three years through August 2005.

On Saturday, a car carrying the body of Abe arrived at his home in Tokyo. His wife Akie was in the car from Nara.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited the home to express his condolences.

Abe died from blood loss, the police said, with an autopsy determining that there were two gunshot wounds, on his upper left arm and neck. There was another neck wound but it is unknown how that was caused, they said.

Kishida had a telephone conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday, with Biden expressing his condolences over the death of Abe, Japan's longest-serving leader.

Biden noted the "unwavering confidence in the strength of Japan's democracy" and the two leaders also discussed how Abe's legacy will live on as the two countries continue the important task of defending peace and democracy, according to the White House.

Kishida told reporters after the phone talks that he had conveyed to Biden Japan's willingness to "protect democracy without yielding to violence."

https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2022/07/...ers-motive.html

old thread
<div class="spoilertop"
East Nato Rising

DR
China say what happen in Ukraine will happen in over here if USA dont stop kepochi.

TLDR
China is rightfully concern about the americans making alliances in the indo pacific (east asia, se asia and oceania) similar to nato in Europe. By promoting various economic and security cliques in the Indo-Pacific region and repeatedly putting pressure on regional countries diplomatically, the US hopes to continuously enlarging its circle of friends, which serves the US' hegemonic system. To realize this objective, the US is attempting to force more countries to take sides with the US to gain more support in the region to achieve its goal of containing China. China advised countries in the Indo Pacific region to think twice before making a deal with the white devil as it undermines regional unity and stability.

-------------------------------------------------------

US Indo-Pacific Strategy may be more destructive to region than NATO is to Europe

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

A CNN report, entitled "What China really means when it talks about NATO's eastward expansion," said that "China has sought to draw parallels between the US strategy in the Indo-Pacific and NATO in recent years." It continued, "Experts point out there are vast differences between NATO, a security alliance, and the US strategy in Indo-Pacific, which is not just about security, but includes a range of policies."

The ultimate goal of US foreign strategy is to safeguard its global interests. Fundamentally, the establishment of the NATO security alliance and the formulation of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy were aimed at maintaining the regional and global hegemony the US has enjoyed.

However, there are differences between NATO and the US Indo-Pacific Strategy. The latter has a broader vision and may be more destructive to the region than NATO is to Europe. Washington has stated that its Indo-Pacific Strategy is a whole-of-government strategy, attempting to mobilize all possible resources to reinforce its dominance in the Indo-Pacific region.

Security is an important part of the strategy. The US hopes to strengthen its military alliances in the Indo-Pacific. "In terms of security, Washington hopes to copy the model of NATO to the Indo-Pacific region by virtue of its Indo-Pacific Strategy. But apart from security, Washington has also ramped up its investment in fields such as economy, politics, ideology and diplomacy. This means that the Indo-Pacific Strategy will generate an all-round impact on the region, not just on security," Zhang Tengjun, deputy director of the Department for Asia-Pacific Studies at the China Institute of International Studies, told the Global Times.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said on Saturday that "some country insists on going against the trend to pursue the Indo-Pacific Strategy, provoke trouble, put together closed and exclusive small circles or groups... Such an Indo-Pacific Strategy is as dangerous as the NATO strategy of eastward expansion in Europe. If allowed to go on unchecked, it would bring unimaginable consequences, and ultimately push the Asia-Pacific over the edge of an abyss." Although Le did not name the country, many analysts believed he was referring to the US.

"Le's remarks sound very reasonable. By promoting various economic and security cliques in the Indo-Pacific region and repeatedly putting pressure on regional countries diplomatically, the US hopes to continuously enlarging its circle of friends, which serves the US' hegemonic system. Washington's goal in the Indo-Pacific is evident - targeting China," Zhang noted. "To realize this objective, the US is attempting to force more countries to take sides with the US to gain more support in the region to achieve its goal of containing China. This is bound to trigger more division and instability in the region. From this perspective, like the impact of NATO's eastward expansion in Europe, the US Indo-Pacific Strategy is likely to push the region 'over the edge of an abyss.'"

Washington's Indo-Pacific Strategy is to establish a US-led regional order, which will be detrimental to the interests of regional countries. Regional countries aim to promote the peace and security of the region and enhance the existing regional mechanism, such as ASEAN, while the US' Indo-Pacific Strategy will cause damage to such a mechanism.

Many Indo-Pacific countries have expressed their concerns over the US strategy. They are aware that the US' Indo-Pacific Strategy is essentially to strengthen competition and confrontation with China, and they are not willing to participate in the rivalry between China and the US. But Washington seems to be reluctant to discard its attempts. It has been widely seen that the US has increased its attempts to rope in regional countries.

Regional countries should remain sober, and continue to strengthen coordination and communication with each other. They should become more united and make a more consistent voice on the US Indo-Pacific Strategy - stay intolerant to outside forces to mess the region, and oppose the establishment of US hegemony in the region that serves their own hegemonic interests but undermines regional unity and stability.

https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202203/1256749.shtml

Russo-Nazi Wars has pushed China into Corner. What does China do? Renovate and Expand that corner. China fears China may need Russia in the future, like how Russia needs China now. Self-reliance is the way to go. No blockages no sanctions can stop China.

Spectre of ‘Indo-Pacific Nato’ accelerates China’s decoupling from the west

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

For weeks Chinese officials and analysts have endorsed Russia’s claims that Nato’s expansion in Europe triggered its invasion of Ukraine. Now they are pointing to a new spectre to justify their support of Russia’s war: an “Indo-Pacific Nato” that could ultimately force China to decouple from the west and achieve self-sufficiency in everything from food to semiconductors.

Ever since Xi Jinping and Joe Biden refused to budge from their opposing assessments of the conflict during a two-hour phone call on March 18, Chinese diplomats have gone on a rhetorical offensive, arguing that US-led alliances are as much a threat to Beijing as they are to Moscow.

Most of their ire is directed at the “free and open Indo-Pacific” strategy Biden inherited from Donald Trump, which seeks to bind the US, Japan, Australia and India in a united front against China.

“Nato has kept strengthening and expanding, and intervened militarily in countries like Yugoslavia, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan,” Le Yucheng, vice-foreign minister, said a day after the presidents’ call.

“The Indo-Pacific strategy is as dangerous as the Nato strategy of eastward expansion in Europe,” he added. “If allowed to go unchecked, it would bring unimaginable consequences and ultimately push the Asia-Pacific [region] over the edge of an abyss.”

In an attempt to counter Biden’s “real goal” of establishing “an Indo-Pacific version of Nato”, Le’s boss, foreign minister Wang Yi, met his Indian counterpart in New Delhi on Friday.

On Tuesday Wang addressed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Islamabad, where he touted $400bn in Chinese-led projects across 54 Islamic countries. China, India and Pakistan, which have a combined population of 3bn, all abstained on the UN resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Alicia García Herrero, Asia-Pacific chief economist at French investment bank Natixis, said that as the Ukraine crisis drove the US and EU closer together, China was seeking to complement its Russian partnership with stronger economic and diplomatic ties to large countries across the developing world and resource-rich nations in the Middle East.

While the US and EU are trying to push China into a corner, she said “China has taken and enlarged that corner . . . China is building this sphere of influence which makes its self-reliance [strategy] much more credible”.

Ni Lexiong, an independent military analyst in Shanghai, said China needed to adopt a long-term perspective when making assessments about the situation in Ukraine and its relationship with Russia. “If we don’t [handle the Ukraine crisis] right, 30 years from now the west will treat China the same way it is treating Russia,” Ni said.

Chinese officials increasingly worry that such treatment could include wide-ranging sanctions similar to those imposed by the US and EU on Russia. In that event, they argued, China would need Russia’s support as much as Russia now needed China’s support.

Hu Xijin, former editor of the Chinese nationalist Global Times newspaper, said that Xi’s “no-limits” partnership with Putin would serve China well in any “strategic showdown” with the US over Taiwan or a similar flashpoint.

“With Russia as a partner, if the US carries out maximum strategic coercion against China, China won’t be afraid of [a] US energy blockade, and our food supply will be secure,” he wrote in a recent column. “So will [our supply of] other raw materials

“We must constantly boost our own strength to make the US feel that having a conflict with China is more and more unbearable. Russia is China’s most crucial partner to achieve this goal.”

Russia, however, will be of little help to China in securing supplies of high-tech components vital to its vast manufacturing base, such as semiconductors as well as the largely western machinery and software needed to make them.

Dan Wang at Gavekal Dragonomics, a Beijing-based consultancy, noted that if China ever faced sanctions similar to those imposed on Russia, “they would be devastating for China’s ability to remain a manufacturing superpower”.

As result, argues Andrew Gilholm at Control Risks, a consultancy, Xi must pursue “decoupling on China’s terms”. That will entail securing, with Russia’s help, food and energy supplies while avoiding US sanctions on technology, finance and other areas where it is still dependent on the west.

“The idea was always to build up China’s diversification and self-reliance as fast as possible,” Gilholm said. But after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “the motivation has gone to another level: this now must be seen almost as a national security issue, and an existential one at that”.

China rescinded phytosanitary restrictions on Russian wheat exports on February 24, the same day that Putin’s troops invaded Ukraine, and can now congratulate itself for having resisted US demands for reforms of its state-led agriculture sector during the two countries’ trade war in 2018 — 19.

“Beijing probably feels very validated in their approach,” said Darin Friedrichs at Sitonia Consulting, an agriculture consultancy in Shanghai. “They have kept a high level of state control and stockpiles.

“And now, while a lot of other countries are scrambling for supplies, they are relatively insulated,” he added. “Those policies were pretty successful and meant for a time like this.”

https://www.ft.com/content/98529d12-6cd6-40...42-3ca907f20a73

------------------------------

Military Alliances that matter in Indo-Pacific

China x North Korea
Australia x New Zealand X Samoa
Australia x Japan
US x Pinoy
US x South Korea
US x Japan
US x Australia
US x Australia X UK (nuke submarine etc)

Maybe matter but don't really do much about it

India x Japan x US x Australia
India x Japan (Japan just sign a trade deal, wanted add in defense clause relationship still nego)
India x US
ASEAN
some commonwealth agreements

The cakap saje

US x Taiwan
UN

i think that's all.

new icbm for rocketman

TLDR, rocketman has a new more powerful toy in their arsenal capable to deliver precision strikes. American analysis called it world’s largest road-mobile missile, could be armed with multiple warheads. Japan wants more sanction on Kim dynasty. Japan and Korea complain to the UN. Japan and Korea wants more military exercise with the US.

'New type' of North Korean ICBM lands in Japan’s exclusive economic zone

[twt]https://twitter.com/RocketSchiller/status/1506922007123968010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1506922007123968010%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.japantimes.co.jp%2Fnews%2F2022%2F03%2F24%2Fasia-pacific%2Fnorth-korea-unidentified-projectile%2F[/twt]

North Korea launched an apparent “new type” of intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday, the Defense Ministry said, firing the weapon into Japan’s exclusive economic zone and setting the stage for a fresh showdown over its nuclear weapons program.

The launch of the suspected ICBM signified a clear departure from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s self-imposed moratorium on nuclear and long-range missile tests that had been in place since 2017.

State Minister of Defense Makoto Oniki told reporters that the “new type of ICBM-class” missile had flown for about 71 minutes and landed inside Japan’s EEZ, which extends 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) from its coast, about 150 km west of Hokkaido’s Oshima Peninsula.

The missile may have landed the closest ever to the Japanese archipelago, Kyodo News quoted an unidentified government official as saying.

“The latest launch represents a serious threat to our security,” Oniki said, adding that there had been no prior warning of the firing, which he said put Japanese air traffic and ships in danger.

Oniki said the missile had been fired in a “lofted” trajectory, or almost straight up, hitting an altitude of roughly 6,000 km and traveling roughly 1,100 km — making it more powerful than the North’s Hwasong-15 ICBM, which was last tested in November 2017.

By comparison, the Hwasong-15 traveled a distance of 950 km for 53 minutes and hit an apogee of 4,475 km.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, visiting Brussels for a meeting of Group of Seven leaders, strongly condemned the launch, calling it “reckless” and “unacceptable.”

Kishida said he would look to coordinate with G7 members in responding to the North’s repeated ballistic missile tests, which are violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions, adding that Japan would work with the United States, as well as South Korea, alluding to the possibility of imposing additional sanctions on Pyongyang.

The Kim regime is already subject to a series of onerous sanctions over its nuclear and missile programs.

The White House also strongly condemned the launch, saying it “needlessly raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region.”

Still, the U.S. held out hopes for denuclearization talks, with White House press secretary Jen Psaki saying that “the door has not closed on diplomacy, but Pyongyang must immediately cease its destabilizing actions.”

Meanwhile, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, the top government spokesman, said that Japan had protested the launch through Pyongyang’s embassy in Beijing, condemning the provocation in “the strongest terms” as the international community continues to grapple with its response to the war in Ukraine.

In Seoul, South Korea’s military also described the launch as an apparent ICBM-class missile, saying that it had flown 1,080 km and reached an altitude of 6,200 km.

Later, the military said that it had conducted a live-fire test of multiple ballistic and tactical missiles immediately after the apparent ICBM launch and confirmed its ability to deliver precision strikes, if needed, against the location of any North Korean missile launch and its command system.

Outgoing South Korean President Moon Jae-in — who has pinned much of his legacy on improving ties with the North and even met with Kim three times — condemned the launch.

In a statement, Moon said Kim had broken the moratorium on ICBM testing, “causing a serious threat to the Korean Peninsula, the surrounding region and the international community.”

Moon is due to leave office in May, when conservative President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol takes over.

Yoon’s transition team said in a statement that the ICBM launch “was a serious provocation that threatens our security,” adding that it was in “direct violation of the U.N. Security Council resolutions,” the Yonhap news agency reported.

The team stressed the need to “strongly deal” with the North by cooperating with the international community based on the alliance between Seoul and Washington.

Leif-Eric Easley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul, said that the incoming Yoon administration would likely increase defense exercises with the United States and security cooperation with Japan in response to the move.

The launch — the North’s 12th round of weapons tests this year — came just over a week after it fired an “unidentified projectile” that appeared to fail early in its boost phase at an altitude below 20 km and days after firings of apparent long-range artillery.

The U.S. and its allies have warned in recent weeks of an imminent test of long-range missile technology. Washington said earlier this month that North Korean launches on Feb. 27 and March 5 were intended to test elements of the Hwasong-17 — dubbed a “monster missile” by experts after it was first unveiled at a parade in October 2020. Some analysts believe that the weapon, thought to be the world’s largest road-mobile missile, could be armed with multiple warheads in a bid to better penetrate defenses.

It was not immediately clear if the latest test had been of the Hwasong-17, but experts said this was likely the case.

“Given Japan claims the missile flew 71 minutes and reached an altitude of 6,000 km, I strongly suspect this was part of North Korea’s goal to develop a 15,000 km range ICBM. The probable missile? Hwasong-17,” Chad O’Carroll, founder of NK News, a Seoul-based website that tracks North Korea, wrote on Twitter.

Such a weapon would put the entire continental U.S. within striking distance.

Although the North said its Feb. 27 and March 5 launches were tests of a reconnaissance satellite system, U.S. officials said the firings may have tested components of the Hwasong-17.

Pyongyang last launched a satellite into orbit in February 2016, with outside experts describing the rocket launches as thinly veiled attempts to master longer-range missile technology.

Rockets used to put satellites into orbit employ much of the same technology as those used in ballistic missiles, including long-range weapons like ICBMs — technology Pyongyang is banned from using under the U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The remarks by Japan’s Oniki focusing on the lack of a launch warning and the danger this presented for air and sea traffic could mean that North Korea might describe Thursday’s launch as part of the satellite project.

The latest launch could signal that Kim believes he can test ever more advanced weapons — and escape punishment since his longtime patrons in China and Russia, which are both at odds with the U.S. and Japan, have veto power as members of the U.N. Security Council.

It is unclear, however, if an ICBM launch could prompt more of a backlash than other recent tests by the North, pressuring China and Russia to take a stand.

“The effectiveness of existing sanctions is waning due to lax enforcement by some countries,” said Ewha University’s Easley. “Given China and Russia’s lack of cooperation on the U.N. Security Council, the U.S. and its allies will likely need to sanction more entities in those countries and elsewhere that are aiding North Korea’s weapons programs.”

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/03/2...ied-projectile/

Drone Wars

Russian Missteps Open Door for Biden to Wage Secret Drone War in Ukraine

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Russia's inability or unwillingness to close the skies over Ukraine has presented a potential opportunity for the United States to conduct a secret drone campaign in the conflict-ravaged country, current and former U.S. military officials familiar with the nation's drone program tell Newsweek.

And with chaos on the ground in Ukraine, these sources said it would be possible to obscure who was flying the unmanned aerial combat systems and at the same time avoid belying Biden's public promises not to send U.S. troops to take on Russian soldiers.

"Biden's statement about no U.S. service members in Ukraine opens the door wide to covert drones as well as CIA paramilitary in the country," one former senior U.S. intelligence officer told Newsweek.

Among the possible targets referenced is a Russian convoy currently rolling toward Kyiv that stretches some 40 miles long. By necessity, such an operation would likely be limited in scale to avoid detection by Moscow.

"The Russians don't have the time to conduct forensics," the former senior U.S. intelligence officer said, "and the U.S. could claim [the drones] were donated to Ukraine."

Neither the U.S. nor any other NATO state actively backing the Ukrainian military has expressed any interest in targeting Moscow's reinforcements, and Biden himself has emphasized the risks associated with a shooting war erupting between the U.S. and Russia, the world's top two nuclear powers.

And U.S. officials, to whom Newsweek reached out for comment, say "such a program is not under active consideration."

But other U.S. officials with whom Newsweek spoke were confident in the U.S. capability to do so and the former senior U.S. intelligence was skeptical of the capacity of Moscow's SIGINT (signal intelligence) and ELINT (electronic intelligence) to pinpoint the origin of such an operation, saying "Russia's inept performance in Ukraine removes many fears" of such a risk.

"You can't identify the pilots of drones when they are downed," the former senior U.S. intelligence officer said, "and it is very hard to identify them while in flight."

A senior Pentagon official told reporters during a press briefing Monday that, despite Moscow's larger and better-equipped military in comparison to that of Ukraine, "the Russians have not achieved air superiority over the whole country."

The senior Pentagon official noted the situation was "shifting," however, as Russia, which wields considerable ballistic and electronic warfighting capabilities not yet fully unleashed in the war, was expected to intensify its campaign against Ukrainian aerial and anti-air platforms.

"The Russians have not been able to dominate the airspace, but of course, we would expect them to try to target those defensive capabilities for the Ukrainians," the senior Pentagon official added, "and I suspect we'll continue to see those elements being targeted."

And time is becoming a factor if the U.S. seeks to pursue covert actions against Russia.

"The window of opportunity is rapidly closing," the former senior U.S. intelligence officer said.

The slow progress of Russian forces in the initial phase of the multi-pronged incursion into Ukraine and reports of logistical setbacks have led to speculation of disarray in the Russian military's chain of command, an environment that the former senior U.S. intelligence officer said could be exploited.

"There is clearly massive confusion among their leadership," the former senior U.S. intelligence officer said. "The U.S. can provide precision airstrikes from our best platforms, integrating with U.S. and NATO ISR [intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance] to conduct critical precision strikes on Russian command and control nodes or other targets of opportunity."

With Ukraine's airspace still contested, a senior U.S. military aviator told Newsweek that "you could never prove U.S. personnel were operating these drones, you could always say Ukrainians were operating them outside of Ukraine."

A senior U.S. military officer with experience operating U.S. drones explained to Newsweek how such a clandestine operation could succeed.

"Because of the nature of how the ground control station [GCS] communicates over networks and satellites," the senior U.S. military officer said, "even if the Russians recovered a drone, it would be next to impossible for them to determine where the GCS was, let alone who was flying the drone."

Such an operation, a U.S. intelligence official said, "seems in line with CIA's historical precedent."

Still, the idea that Washington or Moscow would ever target one another's forces appears untenable, given the high stakes associated with such a confrontation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made these stakes clear late Wednesday when, in announcing his "special military operation" amid Ukraine's efforts to join the U.S.-led NATO alliance, he warned that "whoever tries to interfere with us, and even more so to create threats for our country, for our people, should know that Russia's response will be immediate and will lead to such consequences that you have never experienced in your history."

Adding to this threat, Putin put nuclear forces on high alert. The Russian leader said it was in response to what he called "aggressive statements" coming from top NATO leaders as well as widespread sanctions that target him, his leading officials and a growing number of Russian state and non-state institutions.

But there is precedent for the U.S. and Russia taking on one another's forces directly under false pretenses.

At a distant time of friendly relations between the U.S. and Iran while under the rule of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, U.S. pilots flew Iranian aircraft to probe Soviet anti-air defenses, resulting in the loss of at least one aircraft after a Soviet pilot rammed an F-4 Phantom piloted by Iranian and U.S. personnel.

Soviet pilots in aircraft with Chinese or North Korean markings were also known to engage U.S. and allied targets during the Korean War in the early 1950s. And in 1989, the Soviet military newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda, also known as "Red Star" and still in publication today as the official outlet of the Russian Defense Ministry, acknowledged that Soviet troops operated surface-to-air missile sites that targeted U.S. warplanes in the 1960s during the Vietnam War.

The 1989 confirmation of the Vietnam-era subterfuge came just as the Soviet Union withdrew from a decade-long conflict in Afghanistan, where CIA personnel had provided mujahideen rebels with arms, including Stinger shoulder-held anti-aircraft missiles now being sent by the Pentagon to Ukrainian troops in their fight against Russia.

Stinger systems are part of the latest $350 million military aid package to Kyiv, bringing the total amount of U.S. security assistance to Ukraine to $1 billion over the past year alone, according to a statement published Friday by Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby and shared with Newsweek in response to a question regarding the depth of U.S. efforts to support Ukraine.

Asked specifically whether drones, including potentially the advanced MQ-9 Reaper, would be a part of this package, a Defense Department spokesperson said, "We have no additional details to provide."

Ukrainian forces already operate a number of unmanned aerial systems, including locally manufactured suicide drones and the powerful Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drone, which has capabilities comparable to the MQ-9 Reaper. Reports have emerged of direct hits on Russian troops, but conflicting narratives and disinformation surrounding the conflict in Ukraine have made the success of the weapon difficult to verify.

The nature of U.S. drone warfare also remains murky even as the program, with components led by both the Pentagon and the CIA, has come to the forefront of international attention over the past two decades, especially after its expansion under former President Barack Obama. Deadly strikes have been carried out across a number of countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, and the true scope of this campaign remains unknown to the public.

As Newsweek reported two years ago, the U.S.' own spy satellites were kept out of the loop when a U.S. drone took out Iran's top military commander, Revolutionary Guards Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani, at Baghdad International Airport in January 2020, though then-President Donald Trump quickly took responsibility for the action.

Drone warfare appears to have been significantly drawn down in the Biden administration, but civilian casualties in recent U.S. strikes in Afghanistan and Syria continue to draw scrutiny nonetheless, leading the Pentagon to order a review of its strategy.

In order to pursue any covert course of action against Russia involving the CIA, a presidential finding, formally known as a Memorandum of Notification, would need to be established. And while no such document has been made public, such materials are considered highly classified.

https://www.newsweek.com/russian-missteps-o...ukraine-1683703
S.Korea Going Nuclear and Frist Strike Plans

New South Korea President
Yoon Suk-yeol
proof
https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/South-Kor...ential-election
------------------------

Some info on him

-he is conservative
-fights corruption
-he hates their country's version of JKOM
-he gonna stop policy on scaling back of nuclear power generation
-infact he gonna build more modern ones to lessen dependence on foreign energy.
-----------------------

Before elected he said (mind you quite similar to Putin Speech for Liberating Ukraine)

-People Power Party presidential candidate Yoon Suk-yeol on Thursday defended his position on "preemptive strike" against North Korea, saying that such a plan would curb war and protect peace
-We are not trying to wage war, but to curb it," adding, "The kill chain, which is called a preliminary blow, is to protect peace

-People Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo suggested Yoon about signing a nuclear sharing agreement between South Korea and the US to cope with the North Korean nuclear threat. Yoon said, "That is also part of the extended deterrence," adding, "It can be solved by strengthening the Korea-US alliance and strengthening the extended deterrence."
--------------------------

Statement from other candidates
-The effectiveness of the kill chain is limited. A preemptive strike is going straight to war. It is like a declaration of war.
----------------------------
http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20220203000945

Paper on South Korean opinion on Nuclear Water for S.Korea.
They want it

Reason sited
-increasing north Korean missiles testing
-Russian-Ukraine war exposes vulnerability
-S.Korean prefer to develop their own Nuclear Arsenals over US deployed Nukes. (this supports the new president bid for nuclear energy independence)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

South Koreans’ Strong Support for Nuclear Weapons

On March 5, with South Korea’s elections less than a week away, North Korea fired a single ballistic missile towards the East Sea, marking the ninth missile test already this year. While the two front-runners of this election, Lee Jae-myung of the ruling Democratic Party (DPK) and Yoon Suk-yeol of the main opposition conservative People Power Party (PPP), are locked in a tight race, North Korea’s military provocations are unlikely to considerably impact the electoral outcome regardless of the motives behind Pyongyang’s resumed missile activism. This is mostly because in the past few weeks, South Korea’s domestic political scene has been dominated by heated debates on economic and social issues, from the housing market to gender and generational divide caused by rising misogyny amid personal accusations and corruption scandals involving candidates or their relatives. While public attention is overwhelmingly focused on those issues, relatively little space is left for such an old and familiar issue as North Korea’s military buildup. Nevertheless, this does not necessarily mean that South Koreans are not conscious of the threats from North Korea’s nuclear and missile programmes.

Under President Park Chung-hee, South Korea attempted to pursue its own domestic nuclear weapons programme. However, following US pressure, the project was suspended and in 1975, South Korea joined the NPT as a non-nuclear state. On several occasions, Seoul officially refused to (re-)consider a nuclear option. By December 1991, US tactical nuclear weapons were withdrawn from South Korean soil. Since then, Washington has ruled out any options to redeploy tactical nukes to South Korea. However, pro-nuclear sentiments among ordinary South Koreans have not vanished in light of North Korea’s growing nuclear capacity, regardless of the official position of the South Korean government. For many years, data from public opinion polls have found that the majority of South Koreans have constantly supported nuclear armaments to guarantee national defense. For instance, between 2010 and 2013, Asan Institute’s annual surveys registered a steady increase in public support for a domestic nuclear weapons programme: 56 percent in 2010, 63 percent in 2011, and 66 percent in 2013. Unsurprisingly, following North Korea’s sixth nuclear test, Gallup Korea found that 60 percent of respondents agreed that “South Korea should retain nuclear weapons” while only 35 percent disagreed.

Last month, a polling research published by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs confirmed this long-standing robust orientation towards nuclear weapons in South Korea; 71 percent of respondents supported South Korea’s development of its own nuclear weapons, while 56 percent argued for the deployment of US nuclear weapons instead. What makes these findings interesting is that the poll was conducted in December 2021, in the absence of North Korea’s nuclear or intercontinental ballistic missile tests, unlike some other earlier polls. Still, even without being exposed to North Korea’s belligerent behavior, a majority of South Koreans still believes that South Korea needs to acquire its own nuclear weapons.

There are other interesting findings from this Chicago Council poll. The South Korean public clearly prefers an independent nuclear arsenal (67 percent) over the redeployment of US tactical nukes (9 percent) when asked to choose between these two options. A majority of respondents (55 percent) also agreed with the claim that “China will be the biggest threat to South Korea in ten years.” Although the same poll shows that a significant percentage of the public (61 percent) still has confidence in US defense commitments to South Korea, the ambition for autonomous nuclear policy combined with a growing threat perception from China could complicate future talks on nuclear deterrence within the US-ROK alliance, amid changes in the geopolitical and domestic contexts.

The two front-runners, Lee and Yoon, do not have particular experience in the foreign policy realm, and their campaign pledges in the fields of security and nuclear issues have been rather vague, nothing more than slogans. More specific policy directions will take shape once key positions such as foreign and defense ministers and national security advisor are filled within the new administration. However, the combination of growing populism in Korean society and long-standing pro-nuclear sentiment might increase the possibility of nuclear tensions on the Korean Peninsula if an inexperienced or populist political leader sits in the Blue House. For instance, Lee’s recent controversial remarks about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sparked criticism, underscoring a lack of understanding of the nature of this war while trying to capitalize on it for his own political interest. Meanwhile, Yoon said last year that he would request Washington to redeploy tactical nukes to South Korea or support a nuclear-sharing deal. Such scenario was promptly denied by a US State Department official. Yoon’s position about a preemptive attack on North Korea also triggered criticisms and concerns among experts and other politicians in South Korea.

As a way to win support from a significant number of young male voters active on social media, who are becoming anti-feminist and misogynistic, Yoon suddenly posted one short phrase, “Abolition of Ministry of Gender Equality and Family”, on his Facebook page without any further explanations. This type of impetuous approach to critical and complicated issues in the era of growing populism undeniably raises serious concerns about South Korea’s future choices with regard to defense policies. The denuclearization of North Korea is not likely to happen in the near future. Ukraine, a country that gave up Soviet-era nuclear weapons after the end of the Cold War, has been invaded by Russia, a nuclear state. The military capacity of another nuclear neighbor, China, has significantly improved while South Korea’s bilateral tensions with China continue. Under these circumstances, one might wonder whether South Korea’s political leaders will be fit for the job and capable enough to handle pressures from their domestic constituencies.

https://www.ispionline.it/en/pubblicazione/...r-weapons-33989
-----------------------

Down the road 2023, 2024
-We will see more nuclear talks with Us like those in the 70s-80s
-More military exercise with US and maybe Japan.
-More Anti Ballistics Missiles Systems like THAAD, Patriot from the US. doubt russia can export s400s.
