Broken screen (65” LG TV)

Hi guys,

The screen of my LG65UQ9100PSD was broken due to installation mishap. After sending their team to my house, LG informed me that it is not covered under warranty and quoted me RM3k+ for the screen replacement. I would rather get a new TV for around that price.

Seeking your advice on what I can do with this broken TV. Thinking of getting some $ rather than throwing it into the garbage bin.

Thank you.

Do you have any experience shipping gears (pedals, amps, guitars) from Malaysia to other countries say UK or USA?

I'm thinking of listing some of my stuff on Reverb, but dunno how to calculate the shipping fees to be imposed. Would you recommend Pos Malaysia?

Advice on setup for e-commerce biz

I'm helping my wife to run an e-commerce platform. Compared to the traditional brick-and-mortar retail shop where potential customers can physically check the sale item, online marketplace relies heavily on the posted photos to do the talking.

We would like to have all our products to be displayed on white background. We also plan to shoot video for product reviews. Due to our business model, both of us think that we need to slowly rebuild our AV equipment (yeah, I sort of "quit" photography for quite some time...). There might be certain occasion when we need to bring our soon-to-be-acquired equipment outside. Mobility is a must.

With limited budget and in mind (most of the $$$ went towards setting up the biz), what would you propose for our setup? Doesn't matter used or new as long as cheap and reliable.

DSLR - Good for photo & video (HD). I used D7000 last time. Still can consider other brands and models.
Lenses - Maybe one prime, one zoom
Lighting - Continuous lighting perhaps? LED vs CFL? 3 lights setup with softboxes?
Mic/voice recorder - H4n?
Any other things that I miss...

Maybe you guys can start with "If I were you, ..."

Thank you in advance!

Looking for a specific mobile no.

Guys, I need a specific phone number. Say 7234512. Prefix doesn't mind but if can get 012 or 019 would be perfect.

Rather than making dummy calls to each of the prefixes to ensure the number is taken or not, is there any other way I can do?

Ecommerce platform

I'm planning to have my own ecommerce website, a la Rakuten, Lazada, Soukai etc. Domain registered btw.

Quite a newbie in this area, I've come across few names like Shopify, easystore and sitegiant. Looking at their UniCart Pro package (RM1090/year), Sitegiant suits most of my requirements, except for multilingual feature. They use Google Translate which a major turn off for me since their translations can be funny, unprofessional and do not convey the right message. My target audience is Malaysians, so should have at least an option for the potential customers to select either Bahasa or English pages.

With those big local companies, I do not have to worry about hosting etc and their customer support so far (pre-sales) have been great. Thinking of getting OpenCart or Magento but I'm worried about hosting, support etc.

Which way should I go? Would the learning curve be too steep to have those open source platform? Appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Wireless Presentation for Meeting Rooms

For meeting rooms at my office, we are planning to equip them with wireless connectivity from laptop & mobile devices (all platforms) to the ceiling mounted projectors. We would like to go away from using cables. Currently, the presenter needs to sit in front of the table where the projector port is located. Sometimes we require multiple presenters and this exercise of changing seats and cables is simply troublesome.

Is there any recommended hardwares/systems capable of achieving our goal?

Home Security

My family (wife, 7 years old son and yours truly) will be moving to a new single storey house in TTDI (rent). It is a matured non-gated neighborhood. Our daily routine would be sending my son to school in the morning, I go working and my wife stays at home alone until my son comes back from school. After going out for dinner, we spend most of the quality at home till the next morning and the cycle goes on (except on weekends and holidays). Sometimes my job requires me to travel domestically, and during this time I'd have sleepless nites thinking about their safety.

I'm thinking of installing a CCTV system, alarm system and motion sensor lights. As an initial benchmark, I've made some searches on aliexpress and found these:

GSM SMS Home Burglar Security Alarm System Detector Sensor Kit Remote Control

8 Channel IR Weatherproof Surveillance CCTV Camera Kit Home Security DVR Recorder System

Solar Motion Sensor PIR Wall Mount Garden Light+100% solar powered+12 LED White blubs Solar wall light

What are your thoughts about these?
Recommended shop selling used items

I'm in the market for some used/old lenses and flash units. Is there any recommended shop? Preferably in KL, but I'm willing to travel up south (Ipoh, Penang, Alor Setar). Thanks!

All my files are lost for the 2nd time!

I've been using WD My Book Essential 1TB for around a year or so as a backup/archive, mostly my precious precious photos (I'm a photographer). About 1 month ago, I was shocked to death to find that all my files in it were lost. As if I've not saved anything in there. 931MB free space, and nothing in it. Not even the WD lock proprietary software and all other pre-bundled files. Luckily that time I still have almost all the original files, so I transfer everything back in it. Yesterday, the same thing happened again. This is really getting on my nerves!

1) Instead of trying to put the files back in, I'd like to explore the possibility of retrieving all the files in it. Can that be done?

2) What actually happened and can I solve the issue once and for all?

3) Anyone ever experienced this issue with the My Book?

Thanks.

Planning to buy a home theatre system next month. It will be installed at my untreated living hall. Mainly to be used to amplify Astro b.yond, bluray movies (including concerts which I love) and music.

I went to Harvey Norman @ Pavilion earlier today and managed to test 2 systems (both 5.1):

1) Pioneer HTP-RS331 (RM2,499)

System includes a VSX-521 AV receiver, S-RS33TB speakers and S-RS3SW sub. Quite nice sounding, just not too defined (less clarity) for my liking.

2) Pioneer/Infinity HTP-TSS521 (RM2,699)

System includes a VSX-521 AV receiver and Infinity TSS-500 speakers. Although relatively small, this system impressed me much. Nice clarity throughout the whole range. Tested both systems for stereo and surround, the latter wins hands down. The only setback is they don't come with stands for at least the 2 rear speakers. Can anyone advise me on how to go about this and how much would it cost?

For a budget of below 3k, what do you think about the Infinity? Any other better new systems within that range? Anyway, I got a Panasonic P42X20K plasma and Samsung BD-C5500 player to be paired with.

Thanking you guys in advance.
