Monitor is one of those important tools in our daily life.
If it’s a bad monitor or the wrong one for your usage, you could end up losing even more time and maybe even put your health at risk.

So far we received many questions in public & privately. One of the frequent asked questions is "I want a monitor what do you recommend?"
However this is no 100% correct answer to this question. It depends on the using purpose, context, surrounding and so on.

What is “Flicker” mean in LED monitor?

“Flicker” is inevitable in LED Displays because it is related to the LED backlight technology, LED’s brightness can be controlled by adjusting the current intensity so we call this is the analogy dimming modulation. But the LED’ color will have some change when the current strength is up or down. This problem has no impact in our normal using when we need to light up somewhere. So it is the general using in LED lighting. But LED for high end using like in monitor display, color shift is unallowable because customer need more colorful and lightness leaves to see a picture or entertainment using. For this reason it needs another backlight technology to solve the color missing problem. For now on, LED monitor all most us the PWM modulation to control to control monitor’s light grade. But it cause another problem is “Flicker”, and it is more easy to see when we reduce the brightness.

PWM (Pulse width modulation) is a technology that using digital to control analog signal output, it commonly used in the buzzer, electric, motor, fan speed and light control.

PWM is set the LED lamp power on or off in high frequency in 200 times/ sec (200hz) that human eye can’t easy to find. If we want the 25% backlight, we put the brightest time to 25%, dark to 75% in quick repeatedly turn on and off while we will see the 25% bright.

So the lamp always in the on and off situation and keep the frequency over 100hz ~200hz to avoid people see the flicker. Although the frequency over 200hz human can see the flicker but it still cause a damage of our eyes, because our optic nerve still work to get with flash frequency change from black to white, which can cause our eyes tired.

A color gamut defines a more specific range of colors from the range of colors identifiable by the human eye (i.e., the visible spectrum). While color imaging devices include a wide range of devices, such as digital cameras, scanners, monitors, and printers, since the range of colors they can reproduce varies, the color gamut is established to make these differences clear and to reconcile the colors that can be used in common between devices.

Various methods are used to express (diagram) the color gamut, but the common method used for display products is the xy chromaticity diagram of the XYZ color system established by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). In an xy chromaticity diagram, the colors of the visible range are represented using numerical figures and graphed as color coordinates. In the following xy chromaticity diagram, the area shaped like an upside-down "U" surrounded by dotted lines indicates the range of colors visible to human beings with the naked eye.

In the research of color space, CIE 1931 color space (or CIE XYZ color space) is the first model to define color space mathematically. It is created by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in 1931. It’s principle of color vision is based on human’s eye direct measurement, so it is often defined as a basis for other color spaces.

Last weekend, offline finals of 2017 eXTREMESLAND Malaysia qualifier came to an end. There were total 8 teams competing against each other, each showed its outstanding performance and resilience play style. Eventually the team Fire Dragoon won the title and is successfully promoted to Asian Finals that are to be held in Shanghai during October 19 to 22 to fight for total price pool of USD $100,000.

The Malaysian offline finals were held by Orange eSports Stadium with BenQ ZOWIE XL2546 as the official tournament monitors. We aimed to provide players the smoothest gaming experience in a tournament and allow them to show their talent with uncompromised skills.

Additionally, in the same weekend, we also invited participated teams and gamers to experience the XL2546 in Orange eSports Stadium. Approximate 60 gamers joined the experience event. We received many good feedback from the players, and many of them claim this will be the future standard of eSports monitor, with the native 240Hz and DyAcTM technology. We do appreciate all the positive comments and supports from the visited players, it really means a lot to us. We will also try to host more experience event like this, and aim to provide local gamers more opportunities to experience ZOWIE’s products.
