Lost photo - transfer from phone to sd card memory

Hi all,

I plugged my S3 into the computer with USB cable and transferred photos from phone memory to SD card memory on my s3. I did this by "cut and paste". When I look back into the phone gallery, only 4 files out of 75 files got transferred into the sd card. The other 71 are not there. And all are not in phone memory either.
I tried searching every folder in the phone via computer but failed to find anything.

But I believe these files are still somewhere in the phone but unable to read or display it because:
i. I sent some of these lost pictures to friends via whatsapp before - I can still see the files in whatsapp and can still forward them to other ppl (but when I look into the gallery --> whatsapp folder, the pictures are not there)
ii. Those whatsapp files that I have received but really gone missing cannot be displayed in whatsapp anymore ---> it will not display when i click on that photo in whatsapp and a message saying "this image does not exist in your media"or something like that will appear

That's why I believe the 71 lost files are still in my phone (as those I have sent can still be displayed in whatsapp) but dont know where or how to trace it. I tried using recuva or other photo recovery software but they cant detect my phone's driver as it is a "portable device" under my computer. I know i can recover some of the lost files by asking others to resend them by to me. but I want to know how to recover those photos that are in the same folder that I did not send out - hence cant trace from friends record.

Please help!!!
