Ever heard of Macrolynx?

So I recently moved into a new hostel for my uni studies. It's been barely a week and I'm only back home mostly after 6pm, so that leaves me about 4-6 hours of free time to laze around at the hostel. The hostel came pre-installed with Macrolynx and boy is the speed slow. Earlier on, the speed was relatively normal, experiencing about 500-800 kp/s download speed on my downloads. Then as the days go by, the net generally drops in speed drastically and disconnects every few minutes. Gave the router a switch on and off but it only fixes the problem for about 2-5 mins or so.

So, I called Macrolynx up.

"You have surpassed your limit of 4MB/s and you are now facing congestion on your connection."

Mind you that the router has a password on it and residents of the unit only know of it and I am the only resident in the unit. This doesn't make sense one bit. I explained my situation to the person over the phone but they still persisted with the same answer that I went past the speed limit.

Does anyone know a fix or care to share any experiences with Macrolynx? I'd rather not invest any money into a bigger data plan (running on 2GB), paying enough as it is for all the fees.
