Upgrading my PC

Hi guys. I want your opinions on upgrading my PC. Below are the specs of my current PC:

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 @3.40GHz (My guess is this is the 3rd Gen i7)
Mobo: Gigabyte Z77P-D3 (The board is suited for Crossfire instead of SLi)
GPU: GeForce 9800 GTX/GTX+
RAM: 16GB

As for my preferences, I'm using my PC for (1st Priority) simple task such as web browsing, music, movies, etc. But I also use them for (2nd Priority) gaming and sometimes CAD modeling.
I do want to play games like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, and all the latest games at either highest or mid graphic settings. I just prefer my rig to be mid-range gaming PC (cuz most of the time I just spent my time playing Minesweeper, so I don't think I'm gonna go for high-end gaming rig).

I guess that's it. So my thinking was that my GPU is outdated. Thus I need to upgrade my GPU. My budget is around Rm500-Rm600.
I'm thinking of buying GeForce GTX 750 Ti as it is within my budget range. But perhaps there are other better GPU that I can get within the budget (I'm just not sure). I don't mind switching to AMD either as my Mobo is better suited for Crossfire.

So my question is:
1) Should I just proceed buying the GTX 750 Ti or is there better GPU that I can get within my budget range? Again, I don't mind switching to AMD as I'm open to suggestions. Also, if I go for AMD, maybe perhaps someday I can buy another card for Crossfire.

2) Is there other aspects of my PC that I should change? As in to better suited with the latest games, perhaps I should change my CPU. If I do need to upgrade more than just my current outdated GPU, I'm willing to spend another Rm600.

Sorry for the noob question. I just wanted people's opinion on this matter, as I've long haven't been updated with current technology. Would be good to catch up with the PC master race. Heh.
Also, I'm thinking of upgrading my rig on January 2016.
