And while the project has long been rumoured to be called Die Hard: Year One, the script has a different, cleaner title: McClane.

“You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, ‘McCLANE’,” producer Lorenzo diBonaventura told Empire. “We want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before.” He added that, despite rumours that the prequel section would take up more of the runtime, the sequel-prequel approach will feature Bruce Willis just as much as his younger incarnation. “I don’t know how you do Die Hard without Bruce,” he said. “The idea that he’s not very significant in this movie is not accurate at all. We are gonna explore John McClane in his twenties. But just as prominent is the 60-year-old version.”

With the script handed in to the studio in July and Len Wiseman on to direct, expect the project to gear up in the coming months. It’s the not the first time the MIB crew have been spotted making movies in the capital. They were first noticed back in July when Hemsworth was snapped in (you guessed it) a black suit. This time he managed to do up his tie, though. What could have happened in the film’s plot between the two scenes for him to have ditched the accessory? It must be pretty serious… One similarity between the two sets of photos is the absence of Hemsworth’s co-stars.

Neither Tessa Thompson – who he tag-teamed with in Thor Ragnorak – Liam Neeson, Kumail Nanjiani or Rafe Spall were present on set. The as-yet-untitled Men In Black reboot is due to hit cinemas next year and boasts F. Gary Gray (The Fate Of The Furious, Friday) on director duties.

Reynolds will produce through his Fox-based Maximum Effort production banner, with and Maximum Effort’s George Dewey executive producer.

Frizzell is a new comic voice. She directed Never Goin’ Back, which premiered at Sundance and will be released by A24, and she’s directing Euphoria for HBO. The writers scripted for Netflix the comedy that had been called Eggplant Emoji, but is now called The Package. They signed on right after Reilly pitched them.

The original Home Alone was released in holiday season, 1990. Rescued in turnaround from Warner Bros — execs fought with writer/producer John Hughes over a $2 million budget disagreement — by newly minted Fox chief Joe Roth. It grossed an out-sized $476 million, spawned two sequels, made a star of Macaulay Culkin, and it was years before Warner Bros or pretty much any major studio put a project in turnaround again, for fear of embarrassment. Chris Columbus directed the original.

Reynolds, Frizzell and the writers are repped by WME; the scribes are managed by Silver Lake Entertainment.

Neill Blomkamp To Direct New ‘RoboCop’ For MGM; Justin Rhodes Rewriting Sequel Script By Creators Ed Neumeier & Michael Miner

EXCLUSIVE: MGM is developing a new installment of RoboCop and has set District 9 director Neill Blomkamp to helm the picture, which is titled RoboCop Returns. The studio hopes to revive a franchise that began with the Paul Verhoeven-directed satirical sci-fi action thriller that Orion released in 1987. Original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are producing and exec producing, respectively. Justin Rhodes, who co-wrote the Terminator film that Tim Miller is shooting, will rewrite the script that Neumeier and Miner wrote years ago as a planned sequel to Verhoeven’s hit, an installment that never happened. That duo is creatively involved in moving forward their creation for the first time since the original.

The original starred Peter Weller as a badly wounded cop on death’s doorstep who is turned into a cyborg law enforcement officer tasked with wiping out crime in an out of control Detroit, but who is plagued by submerged memories of his previous married life. MGM revived the concept with a Jose Padilha-directed version that starred Joe Kinnaman in 2014. That film didn’t do so well domestically, but grossed $240 million worldwide and was particularly strong in China. MGM exec veep Adam Rosenberg is overseeing the new one for the studio.

The plot: anarchy reigns and the fate of Detroit hangs in the balance as RoboCop makes his triumphant return to fight crime and corruption.

The original film was a formative touchstone for Blomkamp, whose District 9 grossed $210 million worldwide, got four Oscar nominations and who followed with several science fiction films that carried a polemical message under the surface, including Elysium and Chappie. He has spent the last few years building Oats Studios in Vancouver, where has been producing short form content he has written, directed and self-financed. Blomkamp jumped at the chance to do a RoboCop that harkens back to and picks up the story line from the original film. His own films have highlighted themes like immigration, exclusion and the haves and have nots, and while RoboCop — made in the Reagan era and focused on corporate greed — a different part of the original story has become most important to him.

“The original definitely had a massive effect on me as a kid,” Blomkamp told Deadline. “I loved it then and it remains a classic in the end of 20th Century sci-fi catalog, with real meaning under the surface. Hopefully that is something we can get closer to in making of a sequel. That is my goal here. What I connected to as a kid has evolved over time. At first, the consumerism, materialism and Reaganomics, that ’80s theme of America on steroids, came through most strongly. But As I’ve gotten older, the part that really resonated with me is identity, and the search for identity. As long as the human component is there, a good story can work in any time period, it’s not locked into a specific place in history. What’s so cool about RoboCop is that like good Westerns, sci-fi films and dramas, the human connection is really important to a story well told. What draws me now is someone searching for their lost identity, taken away at the hands of people who are benefiting from it, and seeing his memory jogged by events. That is most captivating. The other thing I am excited by is the chance to work again with Justin Rhodes. He has added elements that are pretty awesome, to a sequel that was set in the world of Verhoeven. This is a movie I would love to watch.”

Why wasn’t this sequel story told years ago?

Neumeier and Miner sold the original as a spec script and Orion’s Mike Medavoy, emboldened by the success of Platoon, got heavily behind it. Neumeier and Miner got paid a paltry sum upfront, but eight points of producer profits fattened their wallets. The inspiration was classic Westerns with leading man of few words, namely John Wayne in The Searchers and Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. “There were four or five things RoboCop couldn’t do, including no talking on the phone, no kissing the girl, and he couldn’t fly and would be limited to four or five signature phrases,” Miner recalled. “Ed and I became zen like in writing that dialogue, which had to be like sharp spears that punch you, in dialogue form. We would labor a whole day over one line. When you recall the way Ethan (Wayne) spike in The Searchers, or Clint in Dirty Harry, they were like zen poems in an action culture.”

The original grossed over $50 million and got three Oscar noms including a win for Best Sound Effects Editing. Despite this, and even though Neumeier and Miner had written a worthy followup in the spirit of the original, their sequel didn’t happen for several reasons.

“Verhoeven felt at the time that making one would be de classe and he wasn’t interested in the politics of a sequel, “Neumeier told Deadline. “Then, the writers strike came along in 1988 and we were force majeured off the project. They brought in Frank Miller on a waiver. He wrote a draft and then another with Walon Green, and it got made by Irvin Kershner, who directed The Empire Strikes Back. I went off and did Startship Troopers with Paul.”

It came back around when he got a call from MGM president Jon Glickman, tasked with creating franchise material for that studio. “Right when Trump was about to be elected president he called me and said, ‘Did you actually predict in your sequel script that a reality star would run for president and win?’ We had. So Mike and I wrote a draft and gave one interview in Barbados and I think the only person who read it was Neill Blomkamp, and that set this in motion.”

In 2017, Warner Bros. and DC revealed that they were developing a Joker origin-story movie that would be entirely separate from Jared Leto’s portrayal of the character in 2016’s little-loved Suicide Squad. It appears that approach wasn’t confusing enough, because Variety reports that the studio is now pursuing another standalone Joker film — only this one will star Leto in the title role.

According to the report, the actor will star in and executive produce the film, which is said to be “paving the way” for additional Suicide Squad spinoffs. Warner Bros. had a film focused on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in development before Suicide Squad even landed in theaters, but the Joker news suggests that the studio’s efforts to turn Squad into its own mini-cinematic universe are solidifying.

The new plan isn’t going to make things any clearer for the average moviegoer. Originally, DC and Warner Bros. attempted to mimic the strategy Marvel Studios has used building its cinematic universe, by introducing characters in individual films, then building to a big crossover story. But the dark, dour vision of films like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to ignite moviegoers’ interest, and when Justice League finally arrived — with Joss Whedon taking over as director after Zack Snyder was reportedly fired — it was considered a disappointment. Like so many DC films, it made significant money — more than $650 million in worldwide theatrical release — but still lagged significantly behind Marvel, which made more than $1.5 billion in worldwide theatrical on Whedon’s 2012 film The Avengers alone.

The big exception to the “DC disappointments” rule was Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, which made nearly as much as Batman v Superman with far less promotion, a smaller release, and a budget that was $100 million lower. Wonder Woman was a critical hit and a fan favorite, and after its release, it appeared that DC was planning to lean away from its dark, interconnected cinematic universe altogether. Under that strategy, newer films might share continuity, but not be so slavishly linked narratively. Leto and Robbie’s standalone movies are presumably part of this effort, along with the upcoming Aquaman, and sequels to both Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman.

That would be easy enough to parse, but the studio is simultaneously developing an entirely different slate of films. That’s where the previously revealed Joker origin story, which reportedly will be directed by Todd Phillips, fits in. This second series, which will be released under a separate brand, will be completely unrelated from the other films and will be a sandbox for different filmmakers and actors to come in and offer their own takes on DC properties. However, asking audiences to keep track of multiple movie Jokers at the same time seems like a recipe for disaster. And with the recent box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, it’s unclear whether audiences are all that interested in watching multiple takes on the same roles in the first place — or in seeing theaters overstuffed with attempts to milk a given franchise for as many movies as possible.

The Joaquin Phoenix Joker Origin Movie Is Still Happening as Well

It was reported yesterday that Warner Bros. is developing a new standalone Joker movie, which will bring back Suicide Squad star Jared Leto, but some have wondered how that will impact another Joker project. Back in August, it was revealed that Todd Phillips will be directing a Joker origin movie, which will be written by Scott Silver (8 Mile) and produced by the legendary Martin Scorsese, but even with Warner Bros. moving forward with this Jared Leto project, this other Joker origin story is also still moving forward, with the long-rumored Joaquin Phoenix still attached to star. This is all made possible by the fact that this Joker origin movie will be set in a different universe aside from the DCEU.

This new report claimed that the untitled Joker origin movie, "is still in development and will fall under a different DC origins cinematic banner, to separate it from the titles set during the current day." There has been talk for quite some time about Warner Bros. developing a separate DC movie universe aside from the DCEU, and it seems this untitled Joker origin movie will fall within that untitled universe. This report also indicates that Joaquin Phoenix is now officially signed on, although that has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros. yet, but given the rumors that have already surfaced about Phoenix coming aboard, it's not too surprising.

The original report from October stated that this currently unnamed separate DC universe, "can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters." This isn't dissimilar to the comic books themselves, with both DC and Marvel featuring different universes with unique characters playing these same heroes. If DC can pull this off, it will be one thing that will distinguish itself from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which keeps growing and growing under the same cinematic world, so to speak.

There has been no indication as to what other movies may be developed under this secretive new cinematic universe, but the DCEU keeps growing with a number of projects in development, including a few more projects that may include Jared Leto's Joker movie. There has been talk of a movie with just Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and The Joker, along with Suicide Squad 2 and this new stand alone movie. There is also a Batgirl movie in development along with Gotham City Sirens, Birds of Prey and The Batman, just to name a few. There is also a Justice League sequel, along with Flashpoint, Green Lantern Corps and Cyborg, although the future of those projects haven't been set in stone.

The next DCEU adventure will be Aquaman, in theaters December 21, with Shazam slated to arrive on April 5, 2019 and Wonder Woman 2, which starts filming this summer, already set for a November 1, 2019 release. Deadline reported that this Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix is still in the works. Still, there is no indication as to when we may get any official updates about the project.

Disney machem not confident with Han Solo movie

Man...I really was looking forward watching Han Solo prequel movie. But it seems Disney has no confidence in Han Solo movie after multiple directors being fired, script rewrites, reshoots & even main star was forced to undergo acting training becoz executives thinks he can't act properly.

The situation so bad that Disney moved Deadpool 2 release date on a week earlier before Han Solo movie instead of a week after becoz they sked Deadpool 2 might eat up most of the ticket sale & people would just skipped Han Solo movie altogether.

The latest rumors about Solo: A Star Wars Story suggest Disney is expecting the spinoff to bomb when it opens in theaters. Though Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi has only just begun its commercial run, fans are preparing for another return journey to the galaxy far, far away in five month’s time. Solo is scheduled to premiere in May 2018 after enduring one of the most bizarre productions in recent memory. As many know by now, original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired back in June due to creative differences with three weeks left in principal photography. In came Ron Howard to see the project across the finish line, reshooting roughly 80 percent of the film once Lucasfilm was impressed with his approach.

All the behind-the-scenes drama, coupled with a general lack of enthusiasm for Solo, has painted a cloud of uncertainty over Lucasfilm’s second Star Wars anthology. The world is still waiting to get their first look at what Howard has in store (Lucasfilm was likely holding off promotion until Last Jedi came out), and this latest report won’t do it any favors in terms of generating goodwill.

According to Screen Geek, an anonymous source “close to the film’s production” told the outlet the following, detailing numerous concerns studio executives have about the standalone’s prospects:

Admittedly, there could be some truth to this. Over the summer, it was reported Lucasfilm brought in an acting coach to help improve Ehrenreich’s performance, indicating there was some uneasiness about his interpretation. However, viewers should definitely keep those grains of salt handy when unpacking this one. If the script was as “unworkable” as the source says, there undoubtedly would have been word of rewrites at some point in the past few months. The Solo screenplay was co-written by Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon, and has been the subject of heavy praise from many members of the Lucasfilm family. In fact, one of the main reasons Lord and Miller were fired is because their trademark improvisational style went off-script too often for the studio’s taste. Kathleen Kennedy is obviously very confident in what the Kasdans delivered, going so far as to intentionally double Solo‘s budget to make sure the film was completed “right.”

Frankly, this rumor sounds a bit hyperbolic, as Ehrenreich has demonstrated he has talent in works like Hail, Caesar! and the only Last Jedi “controversy” is in regards to its divisive Rotten Tomatoes score. Episode VIII earned raves from critics and is a box office hit (though not as big as Force Awakens, as expected), making Lucasfilm 3/3 in terms of delivering well-received blockbusters in their Disney era. When one steps back and fully analyzes the situation, it’s difficult to take these latest comments at face value, but questions about Solo will remain until when the first trailer debuts (at least). Hopefully, promotion for the spinoff starts soon, and the conversation surrounding the movie can change for the better.

Deadpool 2 Moved Release Dates Because Of Han Solo

Deadpool 2 has changed its release date, and all signs point towards it being because of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Fox have made some major adjustments to their X-Men slate, pushing New Mutants and Gambit back substantially but also moving the untitled Deadpool sequel two weeks earlier from June 1 to May 18. Out these three, the Merc with a Mouth’s shift would seem the most minor – New Mutants has moved ten months and Gambit has lost its third director – but it’s actually the most significant.

Deadpool 2 releases in the middle of one of the most overloaded summer seasons ever. Originally it was set to come out between Solo and Oceans Eight, now it comes just two weeks after all-but-definite year box office winner Avengers: Infinity War and a week before the Star Wars standalone. This is probably insignificant to the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (who will probably have made $1 billion worldwide before Wade Wilson drops his first f-bomb), but it has a big impact on everyone’s favorite smuggler/scoundrel. Or, rather, how we perceive it.

To be clear, Solo is the underdog in this situation. It may come from a franchise that in the past three years has turned in three $1 billion hits and dominated the cultural discussion, yet the long-term apathy about a prequel for a character who doesn’t need one, major behind-the-scenes issues, and still-to-begin marketing have left it adrift. Sandwiched competition from Avengers and Deadpool sealed the deal. Now, though, Solo has a free, two-week run after its release before the next competition (Oceans) with the biggest thorn in its side now set to be on its second weekend of release when it opens. But is this actually a good thing?

here are multiple explanations for why Deadpool 2 moved from early-June to mid-May, with differing theories on how it will impact the film’s box office, but it all comes back to Solo in one way or another.

The first possibility is that Deadpool 2 is scared of the ongoing impact of Solo; that Star Wars‘ second-week will in some way hurt its opening. A less hyped Star Wars movie is still a Star Wars movie, after all. This franchise has mass appeal and, pertinent for this discussion, good legs – even though they tend to drop a massive percentage/amount, the second, third and fourth weekends are still highly competitive (The Force Awakens sold the tenth highest number of tickets in 2016) – which may only be truer of what could be the franchise’s closest approximation to a sleeper hit. Due to the aforementioned skepticism of the film, there’s unlikely to be the same rush to the theater on Thursday night. But if the movie is as good as the initial faith in Lawrence Kasdan’s screenplay suggests, it’s one that will generate positive word-of-mouth, something that would have rolled directly into Deadpool 2. Thus, moving it a week before allows for a strong opening (Infinity War will be on its third weekend).

The other way to look at it is more nuanced. The original Deadpool really grew over time, following up a big opening with four weeks at the top and six in the top 3. Wade Wilson himself had legs, and while the sequel is sure to come faster out the gate thanks to audience expectation (which would play into the prior opening discussion), a similar long-term run must be expected here, at least by Fox. If Solo is such a questionable prospect, then they, in theory, stand a strong chance against it on Deadpool‘s second weekend. That does raise the question of why Ocean’s Eight would be deemed a greater threat, although the approach of The Incredibles 2, a differently-targeted but nevertheless similar superhero spoof, the week after could have played a part.

Quite clearly, the implications of the move vary wildly. One suggests Solo is stiff competition that the sequel to 2016’s breakout hit swerved from, while another has it in Deadpool 2’s crosshairs. Either way, Solo was a movie that Deadpool 2 was conscious of and shifted because of.

Of course, this isn’t as simple as two studios in a battle for Memorial Day and its surrounding weekends. The distributors of Solo and Deadpool 2 are currently in the middle of one of the biggest deals in Hollywood history, with Disney buying the majority of 21st Century Fox. A key part of that purchase is the return of the X-Men to the MCU, a move that has potential long-term ramifications for Deadpool. At present, the deal is still pending and won’t be finalized (should it be approved) until much later this year, so for now both companies are operating in a state of flux and, ergo, business as usual. Indeed, Fox hasn’t slowed development on its threatened X-movies.

That connection, though, will immediately lead to questions of Disney involvement in this. After all, while there are behind-the-scenes concerns that led to New Mutants and Gambit moving about, there’s nothing immediately easy to explain Deadpool 2‘s move. Have Disney made some sort of play, forcing Fox to sacrifice their film for the Star Wars brand? Or do Fox know something that we don’t – is Solo a better movie than the surrounding discussion suggests? Frankly, that’s far too conspiratory and assumes a deeper relationship between the two companies than is currently established. However, that only leads us to a more serious conclusion.

It would only make sense that Fox has moved Deadpool 2 at its own discretion to improve its box office. This is business. And so, the converse question is posed: will the change hurt Solo? It’s hard to go too deep given how far we are out from the pair – there’s no tracking nor a sense of how good or what their audience approval will be – but at this point, any gain for Wade is directly to Han’s detriment. Whereas the period between Infinity War and Solo was originally empty, leaving a break time for theaters that could build up hunger for a new tentpole, Deadpool now absorbs that, serving as a distraction for casual audiences.

Mitsubishi confirmed Indonesia will export the new mpv to other SEA countries starting February 2018. Philippines will get first, then Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Mitsubishi Motors have confirmed that the all-new seven-seater Xpander that has just made its global debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) last week will be exported to neighbouring countries in the ASEAN region starting February 2018, reports Reuters.

The report by the London-based news agency quoted Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko as saying, "We will export this car across ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries starting next February.”

It also added that exports will begin first for Philippines, followed by Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

To be produced at Mitsubishi Motors new plant in Bekasi Prefecture, West Java Province in Indonesia, Mitsubishi says it has set an annual production target of 80,000 units for the Xpander, with Reuters adding that export markets are expected to contribute up 20,000 units to the overall target.

Masuko also confirmed that the Xpander will eventually be supplied to Nissan, which currently owns a controlling stake in Mitsubishi Motors (34 percent).

"It will eventually be supplied to Nissan Motors for the Indonesian market," he said.

While Mitsubishi did not confirm it, the Xpander is widely expected to form the basis for the next generation Nissan Grand Livina, assuming that Nissan retains the Grand Livina nameplate. In any case, you can be certain Nissan’s next budget 7-seater model for the ASEAN region will be supplied by Mitsubishi. The Nissan version however, is expected to have a slightly different exterior styling.

The Xpander is a crossover-ish, quasi-MPV/SUV type of vehicle, very much like the Honda BR-V. It marries the functionality of a seven-seater MPV with the rugged looks of an SUV.

With a ground clearance height of 205 mm, the Xpander rides 5 mm taller than the Honda BR-V. At 4,475 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, and 1,700 mm tall. It’s larger than the BR-V – 22 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 34 mm taller. Of course, exterior dimensions doesn’t tell everything, as all Honda models sold here are known for their best in-class interior space, despite being slightly smaller than its peers on the outside, thanks to a more space-efficient packaging that the company is known for.

The Xpander is powered by a 4A91 1.5-litre MIVEC naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 105 PS of power, paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The BR-V on the other hand, uses a similar capacity engine but delivers more power – 120 PS, paired to a more modern CVT-type automatic transmission.

In Indonesia, prices of the Xpander ranges between IDR 214,550,000 (about RM69,000) for the base model (a 5-speed manual transmission model that you can be sure won’t be offered here) to IDR 245,350,000 (about RM79,000) for the most expensive automatic transmission model that comes with electronic stability control and touch screen infotainment system.

Top Gear America...um...

I...don't like this new Top Gear America that much.

I have never cringe so much watching any version Top Gear until I shrink under the table.

William Fichtner...every time when he open his mouth, I was expecting Team America's America, FUCK YEAH!!! song pop up somewhere.

Tom Ford...he has done good tv car review but I don't see it in this. Hopefully it gets better in the next episode.

Antron Brown...this is his first presenting gig ever...I'll cut him some slack for that. He's a nice guy.

Star in a reasonably priced car...they can just get rid of this segment all together & have them just lap the track without having any interview because the segment is awkwardly short.
