Armaggeddon Alien Craft IV G17 Gaming Mouse Review

Original link to my review article, help support my reviews by giving it a visit!
Some photo has to be linked to original article due to max photo per post limitation

Click to look at more photos

The Armaggeddon G-17 is a peculiar gaming mouse. It is so oddly shaped and balanced that some people either love it entirely or would want no association with it. Retailing at RM 269 it is one of the more top tier wired gaming mouse. The G-17 comes in the market strong with its one off ergonomics and hefty specs sheet.

LOOKS AND ERGONOMICS

Look wise, Armaggeddon loaned me a black/grey coloured mice that did not fit in very well with my all black set up. Then again, it was not supposed to. This mouse likes to stand out and be seen. With its profile select light on the left, lighting up differently for each selected profile to the subtle breathing of the logo backlight located at the bottom of the palm rest, showing gamers it can be flashy and classy.

The ergonomics is peculiar to say the least. Some people will love it, some will hate it. It is large by any standard, but the sculpt means you do not feel the bulk. I like mammoth mice; they feel more steady and stable. Most FPS gamers prefer their mouse small and nimble; I on the other hand do not share the same sentiment as my fellow comrades. So take that with a grain of salt. The right side of the mouse has this odd sculpt to it that functions to support your fourth and pinky finger. When I switch back to my other mouse, I can feel the difference that little bit makes. Keeping my pinky away from the gaming surface allows blazing fast reaction and less friction from the side of my palm. However having it there just does not feel “right”. Words cannot really describe it. If you have access to a display unit, give it a try. You will be sold either with the first touch or never. To me, I see the purpose but the implementation from Armaggeddon could have been improved. The mouse just feels a touch weird.

BUILD

The external body of the mouse is made mostly out of plastic coated with some form of soft touch compound similar to the ones on the MKA–7 keyboard. However the coating seems to be thicker and has more give to it. The cushy feeling makes the mouse feels a little bit more bulky. On the other hand, this mouse does not feel like it belongs in its price tier. The plastic feels very cheap. I just cannot get myself to think that it is a top tier mouse every time the light plastic makes contact with my palm. The only thing telling me that it is worth its penny is its broad spec sheet which we will get back to later.

If you look at the mouse from the position you would use it, the front right side has two programmable keys while the left side has two more programmable keys and a rocker switch. The usual left and right click and also a vertical scrolling only center wheel with a 3rd button press. Behind the scroll wheel is where the DPI/CPI selector and the Profile selector button is located.

Underneath the mouse, you have a polling rate selector switch, where you have the option to set it to 1000 Hz, 500 Hz and also the native 125 Hz. If you have an old motherboard that does not like 1000 Hz mice, set the polling rate to 125 Hz during boot up and once Windows has finished loading, go ahead and set it back to a thousand Hertz. All the newer motherboards (LGA 775 and above) supports high polling rate mouse natively and you should not worry about it.

PERFORMANCE

As with most other wired mice, the G-17 is light. Armaggeddon has included weights or ballasts to help counteract this, if you find the lightness to be a problem that is. Armaggeddon included ten 4 grams weights, totaling to 40 grams. I found the sweet spot to be three ballasts weighing in at 12 grams. The weights are placed on the underside of the mouse near its bottom. Unlatch the yellow cover and place the weights to your liking. The weights placement means this mouse will not be evenly balanced, with the front side being light and the back slightly heavier. You can feel this when you quickly move the mouse sideways, the back part lags a little. The extent of this problem is directly related to how much ballasts you dump into the mouse. At the maximum of 40 grams, I found the lagging behind to be annoying and disturbing. At 12 grams the lagging behind is still present, just more controlled. However as soon as you get burned in and familiar with the mouse, it just feels like a characteristic of the mouse. Every mouse has a personality, and this one is no different.

As the additional programmable buttons goes, they are terrible. The two on the left of the mouse are mushy and sticky. Once you press the button, there is this millisecond of delay before it pops back out. I find it detrimental to my performance. I had bound one of it to a skill shortcut in Dota 2 and the other to a voice chat hotkey. When I spammed the skill shortcut, the delay was apparent. I had to resort back to the keyboard. The voice chat hotkey was annoying me that I also had to resort to continuous broadcasting, further annoying my teammates. Below that, there is a sort of slide button that you can slide back and forth. I have no idea why this sort of switch was implemented. I found no practical use of it other than a volume rocker but I had better volume control from my keyboard.

Click to look at more photos

The two on the right of the mouse were slightly better. The furthest one was difficult to reach, while the other is fine enough to be used. I programmed this to be a modifier to the scroll wheel. It modifies the scroll wheel from vertical scrolling to horizontal scrolling as the mouse lacks native side-to-side scrolling.

The profile selector button is well placed so that you do not accidently press it, but still requires you to lift your palm off the mouse to press it, unless you are a finger gymnast. The DPI or CPI selector button is also similarly placed as the profile selector, but can be pressed without lifting your whole palm. I did however found out the hard way in a Battlefield game that pressing the DPI/CPI selector results in the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Even after reinstalling the drivers, pressing the DPI/CPI selector button repeatedly will inevitably end me up with a BSOD. Given that Battlefield 4 is a new game with a lot of problem, it may be due to the game rather than Armaggeddon’s fault.

Click to look at more photos

Playing MMORPGs like Dota 2 does not highlight too much of the G-17 capabilities. The mouse is comfortable for the long gaming rounds that Dota is famous for. However, like the above, the additional keys are quite literally useless. FPS gamers will give a thumbs up for the G-17. The mouse feels precise, the 1000 Hz polling rate does not hurt even if you cannot really notice it and the mouse glides thanks to its Teflon pads. The only complaint is the uneven weight distribution brings a notable drag on parts of the mouse. DPI/CPI selector is unusable for me in Battlefield 4 due to the BSOD, hence no high speed spraying and super precise sniping. I opted for a compromise between the two which is reasonable enough but I will have to contact Armaggeddon regarding the driver error.

SOFTWARES

The GA-17 comes with the usual suite of drivers and configuration software in a mini disc. The configuration software has a consistent theme across all Armaggeddon’s gaming peripherals. The first page that you are greeted with, called Home Base, shows the mouse and highlights some of its feature.

Click to look at more photos

The Main Frame tab allows configuration of X and Y axis sensitivity separately or controlling the Master Sensitivity. Besides that, you can adjust the Windows Pointer Speed, Scrolling Speed and also the Double-Click Speed.
The third tab dubbed Button Setting allows button programming and macro configuration of the mouse with up to 5 different profiles. All the additional buttons on the G-17 barring the Profile Selector and CPI/DPI selector button is programmable. In total, the G-17 with its configuration software allows up to a total of 30 different buttons selection, 6 for each profile. I personally have trouble remembering what I assign to each of the six button but if you are a proficient enough to require 30 different buttons configuration on your mouse, have a blast with this feature. Here you can also quickly set CPI setting ranging from the lowest of 800 CPI all the way to 8200 CPI.
The next tab controls the Lighting Options of the mouse. Here you can turn the mouse lights on or off, set the intensity from High to Low and also the speed of the mouse’s pulsation. The pulsation effect when set to fast is particularly neat looking and brings an extra flair to the mouse.

Click to look at more photos

As with the Stealth Raptor MKA-7 mechanical keyboard from Armaggeddon, the G-17 softwares lack multi-peripherals integration and but somehow Support/Updates tab is present. However instead of automatically checking for drivers update, users are greeted with Armaggeddon’s own website and will still have to navigate to their respective product page in order to download the latest update.

CONCLUSION

The Alien Craft IV G-17 is a niche. The shape and ergonomics is so weird that I have not encounter any other similar mouse in the market. Some people will like it and some will not. It is really up to the user to give the mouse a try.

At the current selling price of RM 269, the G-17 is not as justifiable as it does not bring in too much extra feature into that price bracket but if you are feeling comfortable with the shape it is probably worth the lightness in your wallet.

Click to look at more photos

Here is my final say on the Armaggeddon Alien Craft IV G-17:

Things it excels at:

•	The ergonomic, peculiar but unique
•	Nice look
•	A lot of customization in terms of button customization

Things it can improve at:

•	Button switches needs to be more tactile
•	Plastic build needs to feel more premium
•	Weight distribution should be balanced

[Review] Sonicgear Airphone V Bluetooth Headset

Original link to my review article, help support my reviews by giving it a visit!
Some photo has to be linked to original article due to max photo per post limitation

Click to look at more photos

Sonicgear brought to the market their latest offering, a Bluetooth on-ear headset aimed at the youngster and hip lifestyler called the Airphone V. High end headphones might be the craze, but there is no doubting that the ease and portability that is a Bluetooth headset is a really big checkmark in many high energy youngster. Although Sonicgear’s quoted MSRP of RM 169 seems quite high of an asking price for something targeted at the younger age group, but compared to Beats and Skullcandy’s exorbitant price, it might be more successful.

LOOKS

If you want to sell things to the youngsters and hip lifestyler, you are going to need your product to look cool. Sonicgear made a decent looking pair of headphone although I would say the styling theme looks to be a major copy of Beats Audio headphones. Regardless, my red review unit is plenty striking and quiet at the same time. At once glance it does not turns head, which is great. I would not want to look like the douche walking around showing off my super glamorous headphone but it is striking enough that I can appreciate the design when I want to.

The headset outer side is mainly made of glossy plastic which the red version made a decent attempt at not attracting fingerprints although I doubt the black one would be so great in that department. The insides of the headset is a mix of soft touch plastic and pleather. The extension bit of the headset has a brushed aluminum effect that looks great actually compared to normal plastic extenders.

The buttons located on the left part of the headset unit compromises of 5 buttons. One main button, a pair of volume control and a pair of track selection button. These buttons are surprisingly great. They are very tactile and easy to differentiate when it is on my head. The main button is inscribed with Sonicgear’s logo. On that same side is where the micro USB port is located for charging the headset. Flipping to the right side, nothing striking is here accept for a Bluetooth logo on what would have been the main button much like the left side. I may have prefer a Sonicgear’s logo instead of a screaming blue Bluetooth logo but understandably, the logo is there to advertise the headset’s main feature, wireless Bluetooth.

BUILD

The headset is well built, rugged enough for its size but do not expect to abuse this headset too much. Day to day usage is fine but once in a while I get worried when I have to stretch the headset apart to take them off or to put them on. The headset extends to increase the length of the headband on either side as most other headphones do. The size varies from small to medium. Large headed customers will be sad to find out that they will not be able to accommodate the Airphone V on their head. I had to use the Airphone V at the maximum extended length, and I have a medium head. To test the size, I had my friend with a larger head try it and true enough, it did not fit well with the earcups failing to reach his ears properly.

Speaking of earcups, the two left and right earcups swivel around a center pivot slightly, with maximums swivel of around 3-4 degrees. There is not much customization in terms of earcups movement, so comfort might be an issue if you have peculiar pair of ears. The paddings on the earcups have a lot of give and does a good job on keeping your ears comfortable. Long sessions with the Airphone V brought minimal discomfort, even when the headset is brand new out of the box. Most other headphones need time to form to your ears and get comfortable, but this pair of headphones does not need to which is awesome.

PERFORMANCE

As with any Bluetooth headphones, sound quality is not top notch due to the Bluetooth technology. Although maximum data rate for Bluetooth is theoretically 3 Mbit/s, the practical application throughput is only slightly more than 80 kbit/s. Any audio from your devices that has bitrates more than 80 kbit/s will be compressed and quality will be lost.

Click to look at more photos

With that said, the Airphone V did not perform too badly given that it is a Bluetooth headset. The audio coming through is very much clear and no quality loss can be heard normally. The midrange audio is clear and the bass is plenty powerful but it does gets too powerful sometimes. Those that loves bass heavy audio may appreciate it. On the other hand, the audio compression does take a toll on the higher range part of the audio. Playing Muse’s The 2nd Law - Unsustainable, you can clearly hear that the headset drivers try very hard but fail in the end. The high ranges will start breaking and you will hear noises.

This is pretty much expected and more or less the issue depends on the audio source. In my case, I tested it out on my iPhone, a desktop with a Bluetooth dongle and a MacBook Pro. The iPhone and the PC desktop could not deliver optimum high range audio but the MacBook did just fine comparatively.

Picking up a call is pretty much as simple as pressing the main button. Call came through perfectly fine and the microphone was able to pick up everything I said clearly. I did not particularly have to speak out louder than usual but I suggest you drop the headset and use your phone directly in a noisy environment. You can hear your phone calls alright but your caller might not be able to hear you.

As a side test, I used the headset for gaming just to give it a run for what it is worth. Tested it in Dota 2 and also Battlefield 4. In Dota 2, with less need for clear audio, the headset was fine and very usable. Battlefield 4 however, with its crazy explosions and shouting teammates sometime gets the better of the headset. The built in mic would at time pick up the loud audio from the drivers driving my teammates crazy. Apart from that, the headset performed well and did not drop any audio packet at all.

Battery life is reasonable. I did not have to charge the unit for a few days and whenever it did finally die I could not remember the last time I have charged it. So expect long battery life in the range of days if you are using it lightly. Since I am reviewing this unit, the Airphone V was practically on my head all day long and it still lasted for at least that long.

Click to look at more photos

USABILITY

The headset comes with an advertised Voice Instruction feature. At first I thought the headset could understand voice instruction from me. Alas, my hope was squandered as the Voice Instruction feature meant that the headset itself can give voice instructions to you. When you turned the headset on it would greet you with a “Power On” instruction. Truth be told, I have only heard three voice instruction from the headset, one being power on, the other during power off and also lastly during pairing. I see very little benefit in this feature other than the ease compared to beeping notifications. The price of the headset could have been inflated by the Voice Instruction feature which brought very little to the table. On the other hand, the Airphone V still had beeping notifications that was extremely loud! The first I heard it I had a splitting headache. The beep was too loud in my opinion and along with its high tone will hurt. It beeped every time you tried powering it off. I learned to just take it off before powering the thing off.

Click to look at more photos

Pairing the Airphone V was simple. All you had to do was make sure the unit was off, then proceed to hold the main button while ignoring the “Power On” instruction and keep on pressing until it finally said “Pairing”. At first try, I thought the “Power On” instruction was saying “Pairing” and so I failed to pair it a few times. After noticing the correct instruction, all my devices could find it without a hitch.
All the media button worked to control the playlist as expected, although do note I did not have access to an Android device for testing but I am pretty sure it will work given its more open compared to the iOS devices.

CONCLUSION

The Sonicgear Airphone V is a great Bluetooth headset. Its portability is decent but could have been improved with swiveling earcups but those would bring in more complexity which would have done nothing but drive cost up. Speaking of which, price is the only part that will prevent many keen buyers from going ahead and making the splurge to own this unit. Apart from that, there is really nothing that would draw buyer away from this pair of headset.

Click to look at more photos

Here is my final say on the Sonicgear Airphone V:

Things it excels at:

•	Great looks. Like, for real
•	Quite comfortable with ample of padding
•	Long battery life
•	Decent sound quality for a Bluetooth headset
•	Very usable for answering calls

Things it can improve at

•	Longer earcups extension to accommodate larger head
•	Improvement on the clarity of the Voice Instructions
•	Lower the volume of the beeping notification by A LOT
•	Pricing

[Review] Armaggeddon Stealth Raptor MKA-7

I have to link some of the image to the original website due to photo limit.

I write for GamingGamers.net and here's a review of the Armaggeddon Stealth Raptor MKA-7 Mechanical Keyboard. You can check out the original article here[link]

The MKA-7 is Armaggeddon’s top tier mechanical gaming keyboard, costing buyers a market price of RM 439 which is well in range with many of its competitors of similar features. If you are looking for mechanical keyboards intended for gaming, this one is worth considering largely due to its build quality, quiet styling and remarkable performance.

LOOKS & BUILD

The MKA-7 is not the flashiest keyboard in the market, but then it does not need to be. Gamers looking for a quiet and unassuming arsenal of gaming peripherals can add this to their kit.

The keyboard is coated with a soft touch compound which is grippy enough not to let your fingers slip off when you need to spam the Ulti skill in Dota 2, nor is it too grippy to trouble your fingers when typing an extensive review after a session of Battlefield 4. The coating is not exactly matte or reflective, it is something in between. I liked it very much. It has the added benefit of not being a fingerprint magnet as well.

The backlight is a subtle blue with the WASD and arrow keys backlit in orange. I was given the impression from the box that the backlight would be all blue. However the WASD and arrow keys have orange backlighting. Not that it is a major problem, but Armaggeddon could polish up on their box labeling here.

You can adjust the backlight with the adjustment wheel, located on the top right side of the keyboard. The adjustment goes from completely off to blindingly bright, which means you can adjust it to your heart’s liking. I personally like it glowing gently and not piercing my retinas. The only slight nuisance is the fact that the adjustment wheel does not have a stop point; you can turn it infinitely, which means you would not be sure when you have reached the maximum brightness level of your backlight. I do, however believe this is due to the adjustment wheel second function of controlling the volume. If it had a stop for its minimum and maximum, it would not be possible for it to control both volume and backlight. The compromise is reasonable and the added functionality far outweighs the nuisance.

LAYOUT

Moving away from looks is the more practical side of the keyboard, the layout. Armaggedon has made a decent attempt at making the MKA–7 as practical as possible without compromising on too much feature.

The top rows of F-Keys have double functions. They do their intended F1-F12 function and also some media control as well as keyboard setting controls. To access the second function, users only need to press the Fn key located beside the right Alt key and the F-Key of their choice. I find this handy when I am in game as it helps me control the volume especially.

Photo Check Out Here

However the MKA-7’s layout has a drawback. With no dedicated gaming keys, Armaggeddon has chosen to let the 6 keys above the arrow keys to function as gaming keys ranging from M1 to M6 when needed. The M1 – M6 buttons placement atop the arrow keys means it is generally inaccessible during high intensity gaming, which let us be honest, is most of the time. With the left hand occupied near the WASD section and your right hand occupying the mouse, you would need a magical third hand to use the M1 – M6 buttons. Given that it is a gaming keyboard, dedicated gaming keys should have been included on the left side of the keyboard where it is nearer to the WASD section.

Those problems aside, the rest of the keys are placed well. They did not choose to opt with those ungodly L-shaped Enter buttons, choosing to stay with the normal sized horizontal ones. The spacebar is mighty large and responsive throughout its length, perfect in my opinion. The other keys are reasonably spaced and shaped, but given that this keyboard is based on the Cherry MX switches, they are pretty much standard. My review unit came with the Blue Cherry MX switches, one of the heavier gauge switches, which performed similar to most other Cherry MX keyboards I have tried.

Flipping over the keyboard, you will find cable routings to help manage your desk clutters. The cable can be routed towards the left, right and towards the rear of the keyboard. The bottom side also sports four rubber feet which is mighty grippy to ensure your keyboard never slips and slide on the desk. Testing it on a glass surface, laminated wood and also my extra-large mouse pad shows no sign of movement at all. The two back feet can be flipped up to raise the back portion of the keyboard about half an inch higher than with the feet folded down. I found that the half an inch stand brings little difference to the ergonomics of the keyboard.

At the rear, you can find two audio pass through, one for input and the other for output, as well as a USB port.

Photo Check Out Here

PERFORMANCE

Gaming with the MKA-7 is a charm. The key are responsive but the inherent design of the Blue Cherry MX keys means double tapping is harder if you are not careful to let the key fully travel up after the first press, but fear not, the MKA-7 comes with Blue, Black, Brown and Red Cherry MX keys to suit your preferences.

I did however notice some ghosting or ghosting-like effect (it happens once in a while). Ghosting happens when you press multiple keys at the same time but the keyboard is unable to acknowledge all the pressed keys. When playing Battlefield 4 with the MKA-7, simultaneously pressing W, D (or A), Left Alt, Left Shift and spamming Q for spotting sometimes results in ghosting.

When testing for n-key rollover (NKRO) using a manual test where I keep the two left and right Shift keys pressed while typing “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” results in full, non-missing characters at all. This is better than compared to something like the Razer Lycosa which failed to fully type the test sentence. A second test, where I press as many keys as I can to test if I can get any dropped keys exhibits no problem at all. I had ten-key rollover at the very least or more if I had enough fingers to test it.

In that, I can only attribute the ghosting-like effect is due to the key response time or polling rate but without concrete evidence I cannot say for sure. The only thing I can say is that the keyboard performs outstandingly given that Armaggeddon did not claim to have n-Key Rollover but is able to perform like it did, however the ghosting-like effect is true and happens sometimes.

Typing on the MKA-7 feels superb especially with the Blue Cherry MX switches creating a tactile and fulfilling click with every keystroke. It does get tiring, so the lighter gauge Red switches might be a better alternative. I have no criticism in this part, Armaggeddon made an impressive keyboard if you are planning to type long, multi-paged review like me. I guess the only downside is if you ever have to go back to another keyboard, you will sorely miss the MKA-7.

They keyboard also sports a 1 MB onboard memory, plenty for storing custom keybindings and lengthy macros. This allows you to use the keyboard on another computer without having to set the keybindings again. Someone who goes to LAN parties or tournaments often would really appreciate the convenience such features carry.

The audio pass through on the back of the keyboard is a neat feature, one that is missing from many other keyboards in the market. Plugging in a headset through the audio pass through is sometimes more convenient for temporary use but because it is located nearer to the mouse side of the keyboard, it sometimes interfere while you are using the mouse. The audio quality does not seem to have degraded when using the audio pass through, although there is the occasional noise coming through to my headphone but nothing too serious.

The USB 2.0 port on the keyboard is not exactly a USB pass through as there is only one USB cable that goes to your computer. Therefore the USB port will have to share the bandwith along with the keyboard. It is not recommended to use this port for bandwith heavy hardwares such as an external hard disk as it will affect the usability of both the hard disk and keyboard. The occasional USB pendrive would not be too difficult for the USB port as long as you plug it off when you intend to play games.

SOFTWARES

Once you have installed the drivers for the MKA-7 from the included mini-disc, you will have access to the MKA-7’s setting application that runs in the bottom right taskbar. Here you can set the key bindings of your keys and also the lighting effect for the keyboard.

As for keybindings, the MKA-7 supports reassigning all the keys except the F-Keys, Print Screen, Scroll Lock and the Windows key. This level of customization is amazing, but I cannot see any use for me. Armaggeddon could have gone with on-the-fly macro customization instead of including full keyboard key binding.

Photo Check Out Here

Apart from that, you can set Macro functions on the M1 – M6 buttons. This allows you some automation on repetitive button presses or even extra advantage in games. Like I have highlighted before this, the position of the key, instead of being dedicated M1-M6 keys on the left of the keyboard means it is highly inaccessible during two handed gaming conditions but nonetheless, the option is there if you truly need it.

Under the Advanced Settings you can change the Polling Rate of the keyboard, set whether Windows key is active or not, set the Key Response time and also light intensity. What confuses me is how engineers at Armaggeddon allow typos into their work. Here, Light Intensity is spelled LIHGT Intensity. The slight typo is telling a bigger picture about Armaggeddon’s quality control. True that some hiccups happen, but the lack of incentive to update the drivers from the official product page leaves room for questioning.

Photo Check Out Here

Armaggeddon can further improve its software by integrating its drivers together and adding an option to check for updates. Having an Armaggeddon keyboard and mouse means I have two instances of the separate drivers and settings softwares running together. This fills up my taskbar and annoys me thoroughly. I like my taskbar empty as many others do. Also the lack of method to check for driver update is even more annoying. Coupled with the fact that the drivers page at Armaggedon’s website fail to address the version of the drivers also leave me questioning whether I have the latest updates or not. Given that most people will have to fork out a lot of money, you would be hard pressed to entertain such hassle to something as simple as a driver update.

CONCLUSION

The MKA-7 is great. It does it what it does very well. Apart from the elusive ghosting that I have encountered, all my other criticisms are taking shots at minor trivial things. The only reason is that the MKA-7 Stealth Raptor is so great of a keyboard that I could not find any other faults. It can dethrone even the best keyboards from Razer or Corsair and with its attractive price compared to other manufacturers, it is a no brainer.

With its reasonable asking price, you would be in a tough spot to find a better performing keyboard. However if you are looking for dedicated gaming keys, look elsewhere because the MKA-7 does not accommodate those.

Armaggeddon needs to market this keyboard even more aggressively. It has what I assume n-key rollover that will attract many gamers. Those can be front and center in their marketing campaign. With Armaggeddon trying to get into crowded market with established manufacturers, it can use all the advantages it has.

As for the softwares that come with the MKA-7, those are easily fixable by Armaggeddon with a future update, which I hope they do. Those can be polished up and improve the overall experience of using the MKA-7.

Here is my final say on the Armaggeddon Stealth Raptor MKA-7:

Things it excels at:

High end build quality – little flexing or sign of cheap materials
Media Keys integrated with the F-Keys
Tactile and comfortable
Sports at least a 10-key rollover
1 MB of onboard memory removes the hassle of re-configuring
Gaming level polling rate and key response time
Things it can improve at:

No dedicated gaming keys
Sofwares that controls it lacks refinement
Layout of the M1-M6 buttons is inaccessible during gaming
Final verdict: Choice to go for mechanical gaming keyboard if you do not need dedicated gaming keys

Score: 8.5 / 10

Hey fellow forumers,

recently i got some reviewing opportunity for gaming hardwares, so i did a website to put it all up. Then i realised, that reviews take time and i cant update the website as often as i would like. So i integrated a news section as well. So here it is

http://gaminggamers.net

Would really appreciate if you guys check it out and comment. Other than the free themes and plugins, I changed most of the themes code for colour and alignment. Some though, i wanted to change but cant figure out which line of code it belongs to.

Would appreciate any constructive criticism!

[Review] Logitech G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse

Looking for a well built, comfortable and customizable mouse? Logitech recently released the G602 wireless gaming mouse. This is one of the few rarer gaming mice due to its wireless connectivity which gamer tended to avoid due to the increase lag and response time of wireless transmission compared to a wired mouse.

To that end, Logitech has set this mouse with a max report rate of 500 Hz, or every 2 milliseconds. This means that the position of the mouse is relayed to the receiver once every 2 milliseconds. Compare this to other wireless gaming mouse that report every 1 millisecond (1000 Hz report rate), you can see that this mouse takes twice as long to report its position. I can only speculate that Logitech went with this route due to power saving concerns.
And it seems to work. The mouse has been quoted by Logitech to last for 250 hours of non-stop gaming. That is 5 days 10 hours straight (Checking my CoD Black Ops 2 stats shows that I have only been playing for 11 hours straight for the last 6 month – hence I would have had to change batteries every 3 months if I gamed all day long). Being used to gaming mouse that drains battery like nobody’s business, it is a really great feature by Logitech. The mouse also has another even extreme power saving mode, called Endurance Mode. There is a switch on the top of the mouse that lets you choose between Performance Mode (250 hours of battery time) or Endurance Mode at 1400 hours of battery time. This is achieved by further reducing the polling rate to 125 Hz. 125 Hz polling rate is plenty for day to day activity, so you will be fine for 1400 hours of straight use.

As for ergonomics, the mouse seems to be sculpted to fit your hand comfortably. Although I will have to admit, size wise, it is quite large. Anyone with small hands would want to avoid getting this mouse. My hands are medium to large size and I can barely reach the DPI up button, meaning I have to slightly shift my grip if I want to press that button. The 6 side buttons are thoughtfully laid out, I can press the front 4 with the side of my thumb easily. The back 2 however are slightly more challenging and require getting used to. There is a sort of extension just below where you would place your thumb on the side of the mouse. This allows you to rest your thumb on it without dragging it on the mouse pad. Nifty and comfortable.

Firmware and software wise, all the button on the mouse is fully programmable. The mouse has its own onboard memory or you can set your own custom profile and save it on the PC. The onboard memory of the mouse only holds one profile, so I generally set it to default. Using Logitech Gaming Mouse utility (from their website), I can create multiple custom profiles and save it on my desktop. The utility even detects games that have been installed on my PC and adjusts the profiles on the fly depending on which game is on. However I found the automatic game detection to be unreliable and resorted to manual switching of profiles. I am sure Logitech would be able to update the software and improve on the auto detection. You can keys on each of the button, handy if you have a repetitive task to be done or even if you want to gain some (albeit unfair) advantage in games.

As a summary, here are the pros and cons of this mouse:
Pros:
•	Excellent comfort
•	Long battery life under gaming and normal usage
•	Lots of programmable key
•	Ergonomic is great for FPS gamers
•	Super smooth glide even on a cheap mouse pad
Cons:
•	A touch too big (but it could be made for Western market)
•	Lower than standard max polling rate
•	Onboard memory only stores one profile
[Review] MSI Z87-G43

If you plan on overclocking the newer Haswell chip, either the i5-4670k for the i7-4770k, you will need the Z87 chipset board. The MSI Z87-G43 is an entry level board selling for around RM 430. It is one of the more cheaper motherboard on the Z87 chipset that is a full ATX size, great for you to put in dual GPU for Crossfire and also note that this board does not support SLI.

Design wise, the G43 is well built and laid out. There's a sizable heatsinks on the northbridge and the south bridge along with the Mosfets. Since you'd be overclocking, these parts could get hot and the heatsink would really help. The design of the heatsink is also easy on the eyes. Not as grand as the gaming version of the board, but not ugly and bland like the cheap motherboards. The colour scheme is Blue and black. If you're going for that colour scheme, the board would be very suitable. Couple it with a Twin Frozr GPU from MSI and the colour scheme is spot on.

As for the connectors, you can expect the normal lay out with the 24 pin power connector being on the top right of the board. The board requires an 8 pin power supply which connects to the top left of the board. Other connection is well placed, with 6 SATA III ports. 2 of them SATA port are facing upwards while the rest of the SATA ports are facing to the side. All the SATA ports are located in the general bottom right area. USB 3.0 connector is in the middle right area, although the build quality of the USB 3.0 connector is quite bad. It looked flimsy and when i pulled out the connecting USB 3.0 front header connector, the plastic moulding on the Motherboard also came out with it. It seems that it isnt glued to the board, only held in place by friction between the moulding and the pins. Another issue with connector placement is the front audio connector pins. They are located at the bottom left of the board, which is as far away from the front of the case as it can get. I had slight issue trying to route my front audio connector to the pins on the motherboard, leaving me to compromise on cable management and routing the audio connector straight to the pins without hiding it. Then again, my 300R case could have had a short front audio cable. Either way, that is something to keep in mind.

As far as the features of the board, I did not expect much due to low price of the board. Some of the notable feature is the Super Charger utility, which pumps out 1.5A max from the USB ports, allowing me to charge my iPad at reduced speed or my iPhone at full power. The utility automatically detects compatible devices and increases the current.

There is also a fast boot utility, which speeds up the BIOS POST check, allowing superbly fast boot. Coupled with an OCZ Vertex 4 SSD and Windows 8, I had a boot time of 5.65 seconds. BLAZING FAST. The only drawback is that BIOS entry is disabled on USB keyboard. To access the BIOS with Fast Boot, you have to either disable fast boot from inside windows, or use a P/S 2 keyboard. So if you are playing with the overclocks, i suggest disabling fast boot as no doubt you'll end up in BIOS a thousand time and re-enabling it after you have found your stable overclock.

There's an included MSI Command Center utility for overclocking from inside Windows, however i found it hard to use and generally used it for monitoring the overclock level only, as it seems to have a very good system monitoring service. You can also set your fan profile from either the BIOS or the MSI Command Center. I however, suggest using the MSI Command Center for fan profiling instead of the BIOS.

Another attached utility is MSI Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I found it very useful in setting the overclocking profile from inside Windows. However, it is a good practice to set it from BIOS. The utility allows me to get a general idea of my overclocking profile without having to reboot the system. Once I have found a generally stable overclock, I reset everything to default and enable the overclocking parameters back in the BIOS. As far as overclocking goes, I have not found any bottleneck from the Motherboard itself. I've succesfully hit 4.6 GHz on my i5-4670k with 1.45V and 4.4 GHz at only 1.23V.

The PCIe slots comes in the following arrangement:

1 - PCIe 3.0 x16
1 - PCIe 2.0 x16
2 - PCIe 2.0 x1
3 - PCI Slot

The PCIe slots are ample and able to support two GPUs at x8 speeds each under Crossfire configuration. However, all other PCIe and PCI slots are disabled after that. SLI is not supported.

Thats pretty much it. The MSI Z87-G43 is a great board for its price at only RM 430. Suitable for the budget overclocking build.

Corsair 300R Windowed Version

I've recently purchased the Corsair Carbide Series 300R Windowed Version Case.

The specs of the case is as below:

Dimensions: 19.1" x 8.3" x 18.7"
Mobo Size: ATX, mATX
Expansion Slot: 7
Form Factor: Mid-Tower
Material: Steel Structure with molded plastic accent
Drive bays: 3 x 5.25" abd 4 3.5"/2.5" Drive Caddies
Cooling: 6 12/14cm fan mounts (2 at the front, 3 top, 1 rear). one 14cm front fan included and one 12 cm rear fan included
Front I/O: 2 x USB 3 Port, 1 x Headphone Jack, 1 x Mic Jack, Power, Reset

Review:

The case build quality is top notch. All the body parts are sturdy and the side panels doesnt easily bend. I personally like the simple, clean look. Actually I prefer the Obsidian series, but those are very expensive. A better alternative is the Corsair Carbide 200R case which doesnt have front fan grills. I took the 300R due to the front grill because i wanted adequate cooling for my case.

The space inside is spacious enough for me to easily route my cables and add my motherboard. One thing to note is that I've gone with the Cooler Master 212X heat sink fan. I assure you, that this is the tallest cooler you can fit in the case. I have roughly 0.5 cm of clearance from the top of the HSF to the side panel. Keep that in mind before buying a HSF. Also, one of the two side panel fan intake is no longer able to accomodate a fan due to the HSF. The one that is more towards the front should be fine with 14cm fans.

The drive bays are adequate. You have space for three 5.25" drives. which I guess is plenty for the normal user. The 3.5" bay can accomodate 4 drives. The bay employs tool-less design where you can just pull the drives out by pressing a clip. One thing to note is that this case doesnt have a 2.5" bay. The 3.5" bay will accomodate a 2.5" drive without needing an adapter, however you would need to screw the drive in. I was hoping it had atleast one or two 2.5" bay that can natively take the 2.5" drive. I have one SSD and its pretty much takes up the whole 3.5" drive bay slot. giving me option to only put 3 more 3.5" drive.

Cable management is reasonably good. There's hole for cable routing and some clips at the back for you to tie the cable to the case. however the front port IO's cable is very messy and i would have preffered them doing a nice cable routing for it. The cable routing holes do not have any rubber grommets like the higher end cases.

Cooling is great with 7 fan intake (6 now that the HSF blocks one of the side intake). I plan to place 2 140mm fans on the front and one 120 mm fan on the side. The top and rear would be exhausts. Sound wise, the fan sounds aren't really muffled by the case at all due to the side panel holes which lies directly above the CPU HSF.

The PCIe expansion slots are held in place by a thumb screw. Kudos to Corsair for designing the back metal cover that covers the PCIe expansion slot to be slotted out instead of being broken off (like some of the cheaper cases). This means you can reattached the covers to the PCIe expansion slot in the future if you remove a GPU for example.

The case readily accepts water cooling solution, however i have yet to test this.
