Crucial Pro DDR5-6400 OC Gaming Memory

Just a quick review of this Crucial Pro DDR5-6400 OC Gaming RAM (32G, 16G x 2 kit) that I bought from Amazon US for RM420.13 (including tax). Product code is CP2K16G64C38U5B.

First of all, I thought it is cheap and good without doing much research. Turns out the best DDR5 RAM for Ryzen 9000 series should be Hynix chips. EXPO timings are:

6000 MT/s: 36-38-38-80-118, 1.35v
6400 MT/s: 38-40-40-84-118, 1.35v

Just to show you all how "overclockable" these sticks are since it is marketed as "OC Gaming". For info, it uses Micron D-die chips.

Take note that:
- These sticks run best at 1.2v memory VDD/VDDQ. Higher voltage will only make the RAM less stable. There's a review somewhere also confirmed my finding. So do ignore the default EXPO voltage of 1.35v.
- The Aida64 benchmark results are based on the above timings @ 6000 MT/s with a FCLK of 2200 and PBO disabled.
- The RAM can be pushed to higher clock speed like 6200 / 6400 MT/s but there's not much of performance gain as timings have to be loose and I don't want to run my Ryzen processor with higher Vsoc.
- So ya, despite all efforts, it's impossible to get the latency below 70ns like those Hynix chips.

For those who "accidentally" bought Crucial DDR5, you can refer to the above timings to get the most out of it (don't forget to lower the voltage to 1.2v). You can hardly find any other optimized reference timings about these chips online because Micron DDR5 are so unpopular.

BenQ SW2700PT Mini Review

BenQ SW2700PT Mini Review

Introduction:
Recently bought this monitor and so decided to write a mini review of it. This is not to show off my new monitor but probably would help some of you here who's looking for a 27" wide gamut monitor.

Price:
Around RM2700 - RM3000

Specifications:
Full specifications can be found here:
http://www.benq.com.my/product/monitor/sw2...specifications/

But below are the main highlights of this monitor:
- Covers 100% sRGB, 99% Adobe RGB, 100% Rec.709 and 95% DCI-P3
- Real 10-bit IPS (AHVA) panel - AU Optronics, with 14-bit 3D LUT
- Factory calibrated for sRGB, Adobe RGB and Rec.709 with Delta E<2
- 2560 x 1440‎ resolution (109ppi)

My monitor with shading hood, which i prefer to put it on as it blocks some stray light and perceive better contrast.

Uniformity Issues:
This is the main drawback . My unit has a colder colour temperature towards the right side of the display, especially the right lower corner. I would say it is moderately severe. I don't have a colorimeter so i can't report the exact uniformity figure. But definitely detectable with my naked eyes especially on a white background. However, it doesn't distract me when i'm doing my work or when watching movies. There's also some backlight bleeding over the right lower corner of the screen.

Slightly colder white over the right side and around corners.

The Dell UP2716D (a similar spec monitor) has a feature called uniformity compensation and it will give you almost perfect uniformity. But turning it on will reduce the contrast ratio (some reported only 800:1). Many user reviews also reported severe uniformity issue with UP2716D. My previous monitors are all Dell and they all had uniformity and backlight bleeding issues (LG panels). That's why this time i wanted to try other brand.

Contrast Ratio:
Deep enough for an IPS panel. Most reviews reported over 1000:1 and slightly better than UP2716D with uniformity compensation off.

Colour Accuracy:
Almost perfect although i don't have a colorimeter to confirm. This is what i'm most happy about with this monitor. I can confidently edit my photos now. Adobe RGB profile is a plus when i want to work with print images or photos. Colours will 'pop' on some of the deeper shades.

Watching movies:
With the accurate Rec.709 calibration, watching movies on this monitor is a whole new experience. In order to fully benefit from this 10-bit 1440p display, using madVR filter is a must. It nicely upscale 1080p or 720p movies (but need powerful graphic card) and support DCI-P3 HDR videos.

Many preset profiles to choose from

The remote controller also provides fast switching between profiles

Gaming:
I'm not a gamer and therefore this is not important to me. Obviously this monitor does not support freesync.

Conclusion:

Pros:
- Accurate calibrated colour
- Many preset profiles to choose from
- Good contrast ratio for an IPS wide gamut monitor

Cons:
- Uniformity issues
- Not for gamer
- Quite expensive for some, but this is one of the most affordable 27" wide gamut monitor.

Other reviews:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/benq-s...nitor,4374.html
https://us.hardware.info/reviews/6564/pro-b...adobergb-battle

Bought an expensive RM2000++ item at Lelong and seller said will ship by EMS. I paid RM100+ for shipping fee as stated, thinking EMS = Poslaju. After paid everything the seller gave me a tracking no that starts with CD.........MY.

I thought CD tracking no is just eParcel?

EMS is not eParcel, right? Should i complain that seller?

Waited 5 days still yet arrived....

Venting kitchen hood exhaust through roof

Hi guys. I've a problem with venting my kitchen hood exhaust. Usually one would install the vent pipe horizontally and exit through a wall. But because the distance between my kitchen hood and the wall is more than 15 feet, the seller said it exceeds the recommended distance. Anyone got experience venting it directly up through the rooftop? The seller said he's not confident about making sure rain water will not leak through the roof.

Unlocking AMD Phenom II X2 or X3 processor to X4

Introduction:

AMD Phenom II X3 710 or 720BE and X2 545 or 550BE are all based on the Deneb core, which is a quad-core chip with 2MB of L2 and 6MB of L3 cache in a 45nm package. These processors can potentially unlock to full quad-core and therefore very value for money.

List of Motherboards that have the BIOS code to unlock the 4th core:

1. Biostar TA790GX A3+
2. Asus M4A79T Deluxe
3. Asus M4A78T-E
4. MSI 790FX-GD70 (BIOS v1.4 and above)
5. MSI 790GX-G65 (BIOS v1.4)
6. Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
7. ASRock’s M3A790GXH/128M

Above is just a rough list. There are many more motherboards out there that can do so.

The purpose of this poll:

For readers to know roughly the percentage of these processors that can be unlocked. This is to help those who are planning to buy a new system based on Phenom II (should you take the gamble?).

For readers participating this poll, it would be nice if you can post the batch no of your processor as well as the motherboard you're using.
To start off, I'm using a 720BE (batch no 0906) with MSI 790GX-G65 motherboard and it failed to unlock.
