HTC Desire 628 Lands in Malaysia for RM799, Features 5″ HD Display & 3GB RAM

HTC isn’t quite as aggressive as other smartphone makers in Malaysia, but it has recently launched – quietly, at that – an affordable device in our market, the Desire 628. Although it has a pretty low retail price of RM799, this device doesn’t skimp too much in the hardware department.

In terms of design, it’s not surprising to see that the Desire 628 is mostly made out of plastic. That being said, its dual-tone design does look rather sleek; it’s also great to see that the Taiwanese company’s signature BoomSound speakers are featured on this affordable device.

As far as specifications go, the Desire 628 is a mixed bag. It is packed with a decent 5-inch 720p display, an unspecified 1.3GHz octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 13MP rear and 5MP front-facing cameras, dual-SIM support, as well as LTE connectivity.

While these are rather respectable hardware, it is the Desire 628’s battery capacity that raised a few eyebrows: it is only a 2,200mAh cell. Of course, there are various factors that determine the overall battery life of a device, but the small battery capacity of the Desire 628 is definitely a concern.

If you’re keen to get your hands on this affordable device from HTC, it is now available for purchase at RM799 from key retailers. It can be purchased in two different colours: Cobalt White and Sunset Blue.

Power saving mode for monitor

Monitor: Viewsonic VX2233WM
new GPU: Sapphire HD5750 512MB, DVI port
old GPU: mobo build-in ATi HD4200, D-sub port
System: Windows 7

Since 2 weeks ago after I changed my graphic card to HD5750, my monitor no longer able to enter power saving mode.

Before this I already configured at Windows 7 that after 10 minutes, the monitor will auto shut down, which the LED will turn from blue to orange color.

With the new graphic card, my monitor only able to turn blank after 10 minutes. But I still can see some dim light from the screen, the LED still reamin blue color.

I already emailed to Viewsonic Malaysia. According their representative, the new GPU that using DVI cable is controling the monitor by digitalise. The setting with Windows 7 no longer valid, and I should configure it via the GPU driver interface.

I already looked hard on ATi Catalyst Control Center, but can't find any section that allow me to do so.

Does this is the monitor or GPU manufacturing defect?
