hello, im new in programming and need some advice...

im working on a project, which requires me to control a motor.
the motor is connected to a controller, which is connected to the serial port of my pc.
the controller comes with a list of two letter ASCII character command codes for me to control it.
i need to create a GUI for end users to click around to control the speed and movements of the motor.
which language is more suitable?

b4 i start to do the project i need to start learning up the programming language...... therefore i need to decide on which language to use.
currently i only know C and a little bit of VB.

also, my pc do not have serial port, so i use a usb to serial converter.
will it affect the way of writing the program?

thanks !
