Service and Support Experience

Who is your favourite vendor? Why?
What is your favourite brand? Why?

Me:
Dell. And below my experience within 3 years owning Dell machines :

Case #1 - 2 times replace my XPS1730 battery, no charge. End of life but within the 1 year period. New battery reached my home next day of my complaint each time. My mistake, don't know how to use the battery. The notebook sitting on my desk all the time and on AC and even though the AC is on UPS, the notebook battery never removed. That's why easily dead. Now I know, from Dell's tech advice.

Case #2 - Dropped my XPS1730 and break bottom left corner of the metal casing. Next day, Dell's engineer arrive with new casing.

Case #3 - Power adapter for Dell Mini9 dead. Got replacement next day.

Case #4 - Precision 690 chasis fan suddenly went to the highest speed. Sounds like a boeing taking-off. After almost 20 minutes remote troubleshooting with the support team, they decided to change the motherboard and chasis fan + the fan controller. During the replacement process, the engineer identify the fault - caused by all the dust and spider web in the chasis. A colony of spiders take residence in the chasis! My bad, yet Dell assume responsibility.

Case #5 - 24WFP display with a faulty power switch after 2 yeasr of usage. Replace with new monitor and this time the moniter arrive after 3 days. Reason, wait for new inventory.

Huh....got lots of problem with Dell here! Could Dell be a bad machine? Probably. But justified with the support.
I think I deserve a hamper from Dell this coming Raya for this post.

Also used HP HDX9000 for almost 18 months. No problem whatsoever. Sold the mamoth to a friend.
HP Touchsmart PC. Got issue with the display (display got fade whitespots) the first week of purchase. Carry in to authorised repairmen. They blame it on the power adapter. Wait for 1 week for the replacement. Problem solved. Sold the pc to a friend.

Finally (my first notebook), bought a Fujitsu notebook in 2001 (don't remember the model, but the first with metal casing, 15"). Used for almost 5 years. No problem whatsoever. Now no longer with me, since 2006. Last new I hears, the display was dead. the notebook is still alive until today, using external display!

Compaq CQ40 Freedos won't install anything....

Yeah, got new Compaq CQ40-410TU.
Won't install anything other than Ubuntu.

Tried XP, got blue screen when installation reached "Starting windows...."
My XP Pro is the 1st version without the service packs. XP Pro original disks full pack not OEM, got 3 of them all failed.

Created a copied version with Service packs included in the CD (up to Service pack 3), same thing. The service pack should contais the necessary drivers to access the sata drive (AHCI if not mistaken). Result = same, blue screen.

Then try the Vista Home Premium (just to test) that comes with my Dell Inspiron 1720, the installation hangs towards the end on installation ("Completing installation....". Same issue with our friend here.

Tested 2 versions of Vista and all of them hangs. Unfortunately all Vista versions comes from Dell (Vista Home Premium from Inspiron 1720), Vista Ultimate from XPS1730) and not full pack.

Maybe due to the different target machine and somehow the disc detect the manufacturer!

Anyone got same machine and solve issue using a fullpack version of Vista ? Or XP ?

Daftarlah belajar di Cosmopoint, any college or shoplot Cosmopoint and you will get a notebook!
Yeah a notebook.

BUT kena tanya dan read (kalau ada) dulu the fine print.
You'll get the notebook only if (there are some conditions to be met) :

1. Kalau tak ada loan, paid by FAMA, then the fee must be paid amounting to a CERTAIN AMOUNT within a CERTAIN PERIOD, baru qualify for the notebook.

2. Kalau ada loan, si-along tu kena bayar kepada Cosmopoint a CERTAIN AMOUNT within a CERTAIN PERIOD baru dapat notebook tu.

My case, I paid for my kid's tuition (on time, no lapse) and yes, I do not qualify for the notebook. I did not pay the EXTRA AMOUNT within the UNANNOUNCED CORRECT PERIOD (the actual memo from Cosmopoint Admin came later when my kid is way in her final semester!). Luckily I got some extra wang pencen to buy a notebook for my kid!

3 other case, MARA Loan, since MARA lambat bayar, NO NOTEBOOK.

2 other cases, PTPTN.
I remember earlier in this thread someone asked what'll a Xeon + Quadro performance index will be :
Haah....this is mine and this is very-very bad for a Xeon machine.

What's wrong with the RAM ?
Can anynone tell ?

Anyway....the machine is a Dell Precision 690 and came with Windows XP Pro.
Tested install Vista 64 (not ori one) just to look at the index.
Installed Vista due to change in HDD config (the index subscore result for the HDD is for 4x250GB HDD Raid-Stripping)

Will use this Vista installation for 2/3 more days and back to XP. Enuf playing and work...work...work.

Note:

Ah...this post should be in "What is your Windows Vista score" thread.
This is all about how to....
