Wired and Wireless Connection

Hi Sifus.
I am not sure if I am posting at the correct section or not.
So please forgive me if this is not the correct one.

Currently, I have a desktop and a laptop connected to my wireless router for internet usage.
Everything is fine, except, I tend to transfer files a lot between the desktop and the laptop.
The transfer rate is kinda slow on wireless.
So since the desktop and laptop are actually side by side and both have a network port, I am thinking of connecting the two by cable.

My question now will be - is this possible?
Do I need any extra configuration?
I just want my file transfer between the desktop and laptop to go thru the cable.
Internet should continue using wireless.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Beware of Digi Data Charges in Genting

Hi, just wanna ask if any of you have ever faced such an issue.
My iPhone has no data plan so I removed the APN from my phone.
However, when my bill came this month, Digi is charging me for data charges.
The thing is I did not update the APN to connect to Digi's data network.
Even weirder is the charges only happened when I was at Genting.
Data charges started just about after I arrived at Genting and stopped just before I left Genting.
Now I have disputed my case with Digi, and they are solely blaming it on the iPhone saying it is a flaw in OS3 and that is why there is OS4 (seriously, WTF?!)
I mean, if it is really due to the iPhone, doesn't the data charge happen a lot more often other than just the time I was in Genting.
Hell, why does it happen to 2 iPhones on 2 seperate lines at the exact same time.
Well, I am just here to enquire and maybe inform the rest while I continue to dispute my case with Digi.

Camera Shutter Stuck

Hi.
I wish to ask if anyone of you have faced such a situation.
When you click on the Camera icon on the iPhone, it should switch to the shutter part and opens up right?
However, the shutter on my GF's 3GS seems to be stuck.
It will not open up, hence the camera is not usable.
On top of that, it becomes unstable and laggy once we try to use the camera.
It restarts by its own at time.
Only a FORCE reboot will ensure smooth usage of the iPhone, but it is for as long as we avoid the camera function.
Once we attempt to use the camera, it stirs up the unstable condition again.
Any help or suggestions?

Add On:
According to Apple Forums, it is the firmware.
Even 2g and 3g are facing the same problem.

Add On 2:
The camera problem came along one fine day.
It did work before.

Odd problem

Hi all.
I am having a weird problem.
I keep getting this error prompt whenever I try to insert or update the record in Oracle 10g.

Using the exact same code on the same machine but with a different connection string, I am able to insert the value into the database of Oracle 9i.
Database wise, everything seems to be the same for 9i and 10g.
ASP code wise, it is the exact same thing.

I have narrowed it down to this.

If the length of sLComment is less than or equal to 2000 characters, the SP will run without any errors from application end (ASP on IIS).
However, if it is 2001 characters or more, the error will occur.
In the database, the column is declared as VARCHAR2(4000 Char), so it should work just like it works on 9i.
From database end, I am able to insert and update up to 4000 characters.

Could it be something to do with the driver?
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Suspecting Modem Freeze

ISP/package: Streamyx
Location: Penang

Personal equipment
Modem: Prolink Hurricane 8000 (Picture of modem model below)

Router: Linksys WRT310N

Problem details
First occurence of problem: A long time ago.
Problem frequency: Very frequent now after changing to the wireless router. Used to use a switch from DLink. Happens after a few hours being online.
Problem description: Suspect the modem to "freeze". Once it freezes, all application which was using the connection maintains its connection but all new connections are not able to be established.
Example, if I were to play an online game with MSN on. I can continue to chat with my friends on MSN, play on the game. However, I am unable to surf the net. Access to the modem web interface is also unsuccessful.

Any idea on what I can do to resolve this? It is getting on my nerves that I need to keep resetting the modem.
All help is very much appreciated.

Typo: Change switch to wireless router. Modem is still the same.

My First Time With Wireless Network

Hi. I would be investing into a wireless router some time around year end but I am totally unfamiliar with the wireless technology.

Basically, I would need to connect 3 PCs. One PC upstairs inside individual rooms and one more downstairs in the living room would be connected using wireless while the last PC which would also be upstairs connected through wire.

The PC downstairs would most likely be used for casual surfing and maybe some video streaming.
For both PC upstairs, it would be safe to assume that heavy P2P and gaming would be involved.

So here comes the problem. Do I go for Wireless N? Or should I just stick with Wireless G? I have been reading a few comparisons and to be honest, I am still lost. Wireless G is the stable one while Wireless N is the new wireless but the standard is still not finalized and also seems to cost a bomb.

For Wireless G, it seems that Linksys WRT54G is very much preferred by most. I have read that it is recommended to flash it with DD-WRT firmware as the firmware from Linksys is terrible. I would like to know, does using the third party firmware voids the warranty? Is there any other wireless router recommended?

For Wireless N, well, I only looked at Linksys. Apparently, their firmware continues to be terrible and it heats up pretty fast for their WRT160N and WRT310N. So any suggestions?

Weird Disconnection

Ok. Here is the thing. I have 2 PC connected to a switch (DLINK DES 1008D) which is connected to a router/modem (Prolink Hurricane 9000P).

Most of the time only 1 PC is on. However, there is this weird symptom that when the other PC is switched on, I will disconnect completely.

That is not all. I use BT on the main PC and I just leave it there. Once the PC is idle for too long, the monitor will switch off itself. When I move the mouse or press any key to exit idle state, I suffer a complete disconnection too.

Any idea why? What would seem to be the problem?

Help with Database Connection

Hi all. I am currently trying to develop a program using C that can access a database. The current program saves data on a text file which is troublesome as there is a lot of data.

The current database that is available on my PC is MS SQL Server 2000 and mySQL. Any other free database can also be considered.

Any method will do, whether it is through ODBC or DSN or something else.

I would be very grateful if anyone can give me some kind of a head start on how to do this.

Hi. I am currently trying to code Excel to generate reports. The main thing would be the graphs. I managed to do that, but there are some problems

Currently, I am stuck here.

How do I use macro and change some attributes of the graph?
1) Line graph. The thickness of the line and the color.
2) Pie chart. Displaying the value and also the percentage.[solved]
