FAQ
What do you mean by HP Refurbished products
HP’s collection of Certified Refurbished products are thoroughly tested to make certain they're in fully functional condition. If a model fails testing, HP determines cause and replaces any failed components. If a model contains a component with a known failure rate, the component is automatically discarded. Then, refurbished models are put through a series of mechanical and electrical stress tests, new software BIOS are downloaded, a final inspection, cleaning and re-packaging. Most often, refurbished products are indistinguishable from their equivalent "new" counterparts, though some may have cosmetic blemishes or scratches.

Where do refurbished products come from?
HP refurbished business products can originate from a variety of sources, including:
Customer returns - Products returned because of cosmetic flaws, packaging damage due to shipping, or a broken/missing part.
Canncelled orders - Fully-functional products that leave the HP warehouse and therefore can no longer be sold as new.
Overstocks - Items that are returned by a dealer to make room for newer product lines.
Demonstration - Products have been used as HP demos

Borderlinx vs VPost Pricing

sterling^moss — Mon, 15 Oct 2012 16:26:12 +0800

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying some electronics stuff like GPS/bluetooth handsfree from amazon, went around borderlinx & vPOST's website to compare the shipping charges.

Both are comparable, except that on Borderlinx's site, there are "Tax" and "Duty" which are not mentioned in vPOST's site.

Anyone has tried the service from one of these 2 companies before? care to share your experience?

Thanks.

Chages in JPA Scholarship's system

sterling^moss — Tue, 14 Jun 2011 12:29:12 +0800

http://www.sinchew.com.my/node/208123?tid=1

seems like there's changes to the selection system. In the future, our gomen will only give out scholarships to those who are accepted by overseas uni and not those who excelled at SPM.

The reason? Too expensive.

Now, I do not know exactly how expensive it is, but I see USD dropped from RM 3.8 to ~ RM 3, so wouldn't it be cheaper to just send the chaps to unis in the US?

Another thing the minister mentioned is that previously our gomen set out with a quota of 300 pple, and in that year, there were 186 pple with straight A's, but this year has 360 pple and they expect 500 pple next year.

My suggestion to the gomen..: make SPM harder la

If the gomen is correct abt next years figures, what if those 500 pple next year get full A's in the pre-U ?? What will our gomen do? sponsor all??

I find it hard to understand.. really.

Rumour: Part of Brunei's Sultan's Car Collection

sterling^moss — Fri, 19 Nov 2010 09:20:13 +0800

Stumbled across this website today.

http://ferraricollectionforsale.com/

Suspected to be part of Brunei's Sultan's collection. Based on the fact that not a lot of people owns Cizeta V16s, of which he is rumoured to have 2 of them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cizeta-Moroder_V16T)

If this turns out to be true, then the cars could be a steal. Since he has so many cars to drive everyday, the mileage should be very low.

This is the fourth Highway one that I'm selling. As with the previous ones that I've sold, the difference between current version and mine is the headstock which is smaller. It still has the magnificent nitro cellulose paint work that reveals the wood pattern of the body as you can see from the photo.

As for the trade, I will prefer to COD. I will be able to meet up at KL/Melaka to do the trade, but I will need deposit (10%) from you to avoid no-show.
For meet up at KL, I hope you could top up say RM 50 for me to travel to KL from Kluang.

If you are from other places that I have not mentioned, I can post the guitar to you via courier service with an estimated shipping cost of RM 80~RM 100.

[WTA]Logitech Z5500 vs Bose Comp 5 vs Home Theatre

sterling^moss — Tue, 06 Apr 2010 16:22:20 +0800

To all the sifus out there:

I have a budget of RM 2000 to get myself a decent set of speakers. I have a 42" Full HD LCD and a projector (native res:1024x768). Most of the time, I'm watching movies/shows through my PC (HDMI to LCD TV, VGA to Projector). Sometimes I watch movies on pirate DVDs. I also play racing games (alot) on my PC, so i need deep bass to recreate the cars' exhaust. So my question is which one should I go for? Here are a few Pros that I can think of:

Logitech Z-5500
Pros:
1. 5.1 THX certified system
2. has onboard decoder
3. has remote
4. multiple inputs accepted
5. has optical connections
6. Price : around 1500
7. The bass! the Bass!

Cons:
1. Haven't tested before.
2. Reliability issues? (anyone can confirm this?)

Bose Companion 5
Pros
1. The brand, it's Boooose!
2. Heard how it performed b4 and was blown away by it
3. Space saving, can simulate 5.1 effect if speakers are placed properly

Cons
1. Price: RM 1900
2. USB connectivity (strictly for PC only)
3. Satelites need to be placed at exactly 24 inches apart for simulated surround to work

Home Theatre system (anything like Sony, Pioneer, Philips)
Pros
1. 5.1 System
2. Has FM reception which other 2 candidates don't
3. Standalone - no PC needed, (includes DivX)
4. upscaling feature - pirate DVDs will still look quite decent on my TV
5. cheap (depends on model, prices start from RM 800~RM2000)
6. Scalability ( can upgrade in the future when you have the dough)

Cons
1. Size (if u're getting a set with huge speakers)

I do need to highlight that I'm watching it in my room where i sleep, so I don't really need a system which is too powerful. But I really don't mind if it is. My heart is telling me to go for Bose, but my wallet says Logitech. I just dun wanna regret after I get the system.

So, I would appreciate if anyone can share their ownership experience of either candidate to enlighten me.

Thanks and have a nice day!
