Job and Kids

Hi parenting sifus,

Me and my wife are planning to have kids in the near future. But I've been thinking about the problem of balancing work life with family life for a few months now, but still can't find a solution.... here's my story.

I stay in Setia Alam (close to Shah Alam and Klang) but I work in KL and my wife works in PJ. Usually we would leave the house quite early to avoid the heavy jams in our highways. It takes us around an hour to get to our working place. Our working hours are the normal 8 to 5 jobs. By the time we get back home, it's 7 or 8. We enjoy home for the next 2 to 3 hours, then sleep, restarting the whole cycle almost every working day.
Without kids, having this life would be OK I guess, but I don't think this will work when we have kids.

I don't think we're the only couple with this problem, can anyone share their experiences with me please?

I know when the kids grow to 4 or 5 years old, I can send them to full day daycare. I'm more concerned on the first 4 to 5 years. I don't want my kid to be taken care of for 5 days and I only get to see him/her only during the weekends. I'd prefer someone to take care of the kid during day and we can have time for him/her at night everyday. Is this option available for 0 to 4 years old?

Although I love the idea of my wife quitting her job and becoming a full time mother, but I don't like the idea of taking away her freedom and making our children her only focus in life. No disrespect to all full time moms, but unless my wife wants that life, I don't want to persuade her to do so. To me, she deserves a career of other things in life like any other person.

I know I might be naive in asking this question, but I really do believe there might be a balance in working life and family life. If anyone has any great ideas and you've been through it, please share Thanks!

Financial Engineering Students Part Time Jobs

Hi, I'm a financial engineering student from Multimedia University. The term "financial engineer" might be unfamiliar to many. Even many bank employees or financial related people don't know what financial engineer is. Basically financial engineering is a hybrid of the financial field and the IT field, in order to produce professionals who can master both the finance and IT fields instead of having two people doing on one job. We learn almost everything a finance student would learn, plus some basic programming and networking. There's the explanation for that. However, I have several questions and I hope that the public could have answers:

1. As a student, I'm looking for a part time job which is related to my field, what companies or what types or jobs could be suitable for that?

2. I've heard that in Singapore, financial engineering is quite popular, is it really true?

3. Although we have been thought to execute both types of fields, is it practical in the real working world? I mean, do companies really expect one person to do a job that requires to finish two types of jobs, or would companies rather hire two types of professionals?

If there are any jobs available that's related to my field, please let me know k? Cause i'm really looking forward to finding such a part time job. thanks a million !

Establishing A Website for Pets Stuff

I'm a student from a local university n i'm considering to have a business part timely. As I have been in love with pets (dogs, rabbits n hamsters r my current pets), I'm considering to have a website with pets things for sale. For dogs, it could be kennel or artificial bones or toys. For rabbits, cages n nutritional mineral blocks. For hamsters, cages n toys. One of the problem is that these things r usually imported from other countries, usually western countries. So the products would b rather expensive for us. For example, a small shirt for a toy dog could cost USD10 but to us it could go up to RM35 or RM38 which would b rather expensive. For starters i need to solve these problems first, would they be any options? My aim is for this website is for mainly Malaysian pet lovers, so i'm targeting items to be cheap n locally made so that all of us can enjoy the better prices than other pet shops could offer. So i would appreciate any opinions or advices i could get. thanks a bunch. Please don't recommend me to go to the business forums as i don't think i could get much feedback for pets lovers. To me, i would really like to know more on how pets lovers would like to spend on their pets.

Anybody interested in having a racoon?

I saw a racoon in Ikano a few months back n it was the cutest thing i've seen. It uses it's hands to clean itself up and take the foods n put into its mouth. Although hamsters do the same but bigger animals u rarely see this. Then after that i met a guy in the genting skyway station, they have an animal exhibition btw, n there was a racoon there as well. I chatted with the guy n told him about the racoon in Ikano. Turns out he knew the owner of the racoon. That racoon was sold to an old guy for RM8K! n he said there's a breeding ground in Klang for racoons! Since racoons r rarely seen in Malaysia n usually found in America or other parts of the world, racoons r quite a hot topic nowadays. Dun u think?

Waffle and Bubble Tea Small Business

I'm a TARC student in Setapak and I'm interested in doing a waffle and bubble tea small business in one of the food courts there. Instead of buying the machines, are there any rented ones? If possible, I'd like to rent the equipment at a reasonable price. Wat other food business that a student can do? Please give more advice since this is a first time for me...

What is data entry?

I'm kinda new in this field. I've heard of data entry before and i've done this job once for my brother and it's like putting information in excel form. That's wat i did before. But i know there must be something more to this. I'm kinda interested in this field as i'm a student and i wanna use my free time to do this. Can someone please tell me what are the required skills that i must have or are there any required programs that i should know to do data entry? And if possible, can someone post any vacancies for part time data entry jobs? Thanks!!!
