Fixed deposit = emergency fund?

As I am doing my financial planning, I am planning to have a saving for emergency purposes.

After read through some articles, some said better to save 3x of your expenses, some said at least 4 months paid in your saving accounts.

Ok, above is not the main point. I just want to know is you guys treat fixed deposit as your emergency fund for some emergency cases or treat fixed deposit as an investment, emergency fund is saved separately from your FD.

When there is a need for emergency expenditures likes changing your car tyres, repair TV or others, do you guys use your FD although the tenure is incomplete?

Any comments?
