Wechat / Alipay from Malaysia > China

Probably one of the most vague in finding answer in utilising one of the most popular & common payment system in China that seems unreachable.

I have plans to head off to China soon in conducting business, knowing that locals there utilising WeChat pay and Alipay, I have been searching high and low but there seems to be no straight instruction in setting up payment system Wechat and Alipay.

I have been at this for the past few weeks, downloading both apps here in Malaysia, it seems like I am hitting walls in progressing to setup the proper Wechat/Alipay account

Both apps runs fine, but when it comes to link them to my card (debit Maybank), it just does not work.

My question here to respected fellows of Lowyat forum are:

Wechat

I can't move forward to verify my ID as it requested for Mainland China ID, is there anyway around this?

I love the layout, simple and straightforward, I prefer this than the highly complex menus in Alipay

I still have no success in linking my debit card to Wechat as well, even though the card has been allowed to have international use.

Alipay

It seems Alipay Malaysia had set foot in Malaysia, but what I gather that it will not be usable in China as it does not communicate with Alipay China?

It seems like Alipay International (the one that was downloaded here in the Apple store), seems to be able to link with only credit card, rather than debit card?

I plan to do business face to face and also be able to pull the money out from either of these apps back into my local Malaysian account after my trip, as I expected payments from locals there.

Has anyone succeeded to link their Wechat/Alipay here and utilise them in China?
