Microsoft kills Windows Live OneCare

Microsoft today announced plans to kill its Windows Live OneCare PC care and security suite and replace it with a free anti-malware utility.

The new product, code-named “Morrow,” will be architected for a smaller footprint that will use fewer computing resources, making it ideal for low-bandwidth scenarios or less powerful PCs, Microsoft said its surprise announcement.

Retail sales of Windows Live OneCare, which offered non-security PC care features such as printer sharing, data backup and automated PC tune-up, ends on June 30, 2009.

The company said “Morro” will be available in the second half of 2009 and will feature standard anti-malware capabilities to detect viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans.

Morro will use the same home-built malware protection engine that powered Windows Live OneCare.

Hi,
Looking for expert to assist
several computers displaying the following symptoms and the count is rising
Anyone has encounter the following symptoms on their customers network

1) corrupted TCP stack

2) NOD32 having error communicating with kernel

3) Network shares and Internet access not working due to intentional corruption of TCP stack

4) Repairing TCP stack temporary as the machine is reinfected

5) NOD32 scan, Panda online scan, Bitdefender online scan and Kaspersky online scan returns no positive catch

Hi all,
came accross this...but take note thatnew version2.0 does not support vista.

HijackThis is a very useful tool we can help you is look for log from registry and start programs.

In the website of the creator can found an explanation about "why HijackThis can be download from other site?".

The program was sold to Trend Micro and is published as "Trend Micro HijackThis 2.00".

The company buy the software with the latest updates, but no official statement was published and not exist official support either.

In words from the creator:

"I sold HijackThis because I had been sitting on an unfinished update for over a year and I still could not make enough time to finish it. My uni classes are taking up a lot of time and I want to set my goals a bit wider than just the antispyware business (though I still love it). Sitting on an unfinished product until it becomes obsolete is not useful, so I decided to transfer the responsibility to TrendMicro (who have also taken care of my CWShredder) so they can give it proper attention and support. Where the will take HijackThis, I do not know - but I am sure they will respect its goals and what it stands for. "

Warning - Malware posing as FREE Antivirus

Hi,
Just a warning to you guys about a Malware disguised as an Antivirus called OneShot Antivrius v1.2. Do not execute the file as it is malicious although it is supposedly effective at removing stration worms and brontok. This is being spread via social engineering by making an appearance in Putera.com http://www.putera.com/tanya/index.php?showtopic=32974&st=0 and the file is hosted on rapidshare.

MOst AV companies do not have a a def out on this as yet. So be careful.

Uninstalling LiveOneCare on Vista Lltimate

Does anyone know if Microsoft's Live One Care can be uninstalled from Vista Ultimate OS. Will it impede any components by doing so since Windows is becoming more of a one package thing.
