Chinese Character Input Software.

To all Linux users,

Just to make things clear, I have never use Linux before.
Would like to setup a PC running Ubuntu but how can I get a software that can input Chinese characters into Open Office?
Anyway to get a freeware/open source for this particular software?

[WTA] NT & XP

Work in a small company, no IT support. BTW, I am not a techie.
My office PCs runs on a network. Server is NT and workstations are Win98.
Looking to upgrade the network with newer server/PCs and OS.

Have been told by management to upgrade the PCs step by step.
They intend to change the newer workstations, to run Win XP/Vista.

Can the newer OS (XP/Vista) compatible with NT?

Appreciate the constructive feedback on this matter.
