Normally when I talk about gaming notebook, I would refer to my gaming friends who are all mainly guys but not anymore. One fine day to my surprise my sister asked me to help her purchase a gaming notebook. Just a matter of fact, couple of years back she request for a laptop for her work but this time I was surprised when she wanted a new notebook specifically for gaming. So I asked her “WHY a gaming notebook?’(Assuming she did not need a gaming notebook just for facebook games). I was lost for words when she replied me“my team could have owned yours in ‘LOL’ (League of Legends) if it weren’t for my notebook crashing all the time near end game!”
Now knowing that I have been playing against a group of girls and one of them is my sister hiding herself in the next room playing against me, I happily recommended her to purchase GE40 Dragon Eyes gaming notebook, as her requirements being lightweight and able to game with no frustration.
The GE40 Dragon Eyes gaming notebook body that is just 29mm thick at its thickest point and weighs just 2kg with impressive performance was the ideal choice.

Upon unboxing, the first thing that catches the eyes is the prestigious black packaging and MSI gaming backpack.

MSI is really attentive towards the protection of the notebook during shipping. The gaming notebook from the box is covered by a black non-woven cover, protecting the body of notebook from scratches.

Removing the black cover you will find a white cotton cover with MSI gaming logo printed on it which cover the screen as a protection for the screen from being scratched.

The design for MSI GE40 is so eye catching as it is different from other brands. The solid brushed aluminum chassis with translucent acrylic which lights up revealing the dragon red eyes. Therefore the gaming notebook is called Dragon Eyes which makes it so cool!

She also mentioned that previously setting up the older notebook was time consuming, but now with the GE40 Dragon Eyes it only took around 10 minutes to do all the settings.

After completing all the setting, she started to install games to try the smoothness of the graphic performance.
According to the official information, the Z-height is only 2.5cm and the weight is less than 2kg. It is powered by Intel Core 4th generation i7-4702QM processor. Through my research it was found that the Intel processor was just launched recently and yet now she is able to test it.

Furthermore, The GeForce GTX 760M was only recent launched and it uses NVIDIA’s new Kepler architecture - not a rebadged Fermi GPU. The new GeForce 760M fills the gap between the old GeForce GTX 660M and 670MX and it packs 768 CUDA cores, which makes it one of NVIDIA’s more powerful mobile GPUs. Additionally, it also has NVIDIA’s new GPU Boost 2.0 technology, which automatically raises the GPU’s clock speeds based on its power draw and thermal conditions to ensure maximum gaming performance.

Testing by using 3D Mark 11 DirectX11 with without adjusts any mode, it can achieve P3632 high score, and the performance is pretty impressive.
According to the official information, MSI GE40 is using two mSATA SSDs in RAID 0 configuration. Although 128GB is not a lot, it should be sufficient for most users to install their OS and performance-sensitive applications. On top of that, the MSI GE40 also packs an additional 750GB HDD for storing other content such as music, videos and photos. This combo should be more than sufficient for most users.

GE40 Dragon Eyes come with two USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port and HDMI port.

One of the unique features of GE40 Dragon Eyes is that it comes with Audio Boost feature. From the MSI official web site, we get to know that gold flash audio jack is being used in the GE40. The gold plated connector is use to provide a stable transmission, reducing obstruction by enhancing the performance.

Besides that, GE40 also come with a feature called Sound Blaster Cinema, software to enhance the surrounding experience. Through the official data, this software is used to strengthen vocals, bass and some low quality audio.

MSI GE40 gaming notebook has an exclusive feature called the Matrix Display, it allows to output more than one monitor at the same time. Based on her previous experience, a notebook can only output one screen, but through the Matrix Display feature, through the built in HDMI and D-Sub allow to output two screens simultaneously. When playing game, she can still make Facebook update and check email from Gmail, it makes user life more convenient. She purposely tried this feature out at a friend’s house, it works!
