No injuries were reported.

The driver was Mr Sun and the passenger was a Taiwanese woman, Ma Yu-Hsin, 33. Further investigation found that Mr Sun holds both Chinese and Cambodian passports, as well as a pink ID card, an official identification document for long-term foreign residents of Thailand.

A search of the car revealed military-grade weapons, prompting police to extend the investigation to the man’s residence in The Maple housing estate in Pattaya city.

There, authorities were stunned to discover a large stockpile of war-grade weapons, some marked “LOT RTA”, indicating they were manufactured by the Royal Thai Army Ammunition Plant for official use.

Officers revealed that the residence had also been rigged with booby traps, with grenades wired to tripwires resembling scenes from action films. 😮

Some nearby residents were evacuated after authorities discovered a bulletproof vest rigged with C-4 explosives and configured ready for detonation. (Full list of seized items appears at the end of the story)

Plotting with ChatGPT

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The search of Mr Sun’s house was conducted overnight, during which time officers said they uncovered more disturbing evidence on his mobile phone.

Investigators found that he had used his phone to consult ChatGPT about methods of sabotage at key sites, including the destructive capacity of C-4.

Authorities also found video clips of him training with weapons, including grenade throwing.

Digital forensic analysis reportedly showed the location as Cambodia’s Special Forces Command 911, an elite unit under the Royal Cambodian Army known as the Bodyguard Headquarters (BHQ).

The area around the house in tambon Huai Yai of Bang Lamung district has been cordoned off for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technicians and forensic police to collect evidence. The explosives and weapons have not yet been removed pending detailed examination.

Comprehensive investigation ordered

National Police Chief Kittharath Punpetch has directed officers to investigate the case comprehensively, focusing on both national security and public safety, according to Chon Buri commander Pol Lt Gen Pongphan.

The explosives are undergoing further investigation, with authorities stressing the need to trace their origins and assess whether they were intended for attacks, Pol Lt Gen Pongphan said.

Multiple agencies are now involved in the investigation, including Region 2 investigators, Chon Buri detectives, EOD units, Immigration police, the Chinese Embassy and national security agencies, to ensure transparency and public confidence.

Background checks revealed that Mr Sun rented the house in Pattaya for 38,000 baht per month and had lived there for about two years.

He first entered Thailand in 2020 on a tourist visa and has travelled in and out of the country frequently. His latest entry was on Jan 27 this year using a re-entry permit under a long-term visa, which allows stays of up to five years.

His name was also found in a household registration in Khlong Sam Wa district of Bangkok, with a previous registration in Chiang Dao district of Chiang Mai. Police searched the Bangkok residence but found no illegal items.

Authorities also learned Mr Sun was the former husband of a Thai woman, identified only as Jantima. They married in 2022 and divorced three years later. During their marriage, Mr Sun was reportedly involved in a car rental business in South Korea and regularly travelled in and out of Thailand.

His neighbours in Pattaya, who declined to be named, told reporters that Mr Sun was usually friendly and sociable. They expressed shock after learning that he had stockpiled war weapons, fearing the community could have been harmed.

Escorted to court
Officers from Na Jomtien police station escorted Mr Sun to Pattaya Provincial Court on Saturday morning to seek pre-trial detention.

Charges pressed so far include illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives and military ordnance, and carrying firearms in a public area without a permit and without reasonable necessity.

He reportedly appeared tense throughout the process, and had repeatedly expressed a desire to die throughout the night, sources said. Officers were monitoring him closely.

Since his arrest, he has not requested to meet anyone and has reportedly confessed to all charges.

Seized items:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

One Glock 26 handgun
2 Glock 26 magazines
10 rounds of 9mm ammunition
One M16 magazine
28 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
One concealed-carry holster
2 M16 rifles
9 M16 magazines
763 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
One box of C4 explosive weighing 2.5kg
2 sticks of C4 explosive weighing 1.2kg
4 Russian-made POMZ-2 anti-personnel booby-trap mines
4 BA/WA hand-thrown anti-personnel grenades
One Korean-made K75 hand-thrown anti-personnel grenade
One Myanmar-made M6/01 hand-thrown anti-personnel grenade
7 electric detonators
3 POMZ-2 mine fuse assemblies
2 POMZ-2 safety pins
2 remote-control transmitter/receiver sets
3 bulletproof vests
2 gas masks
6 gas mask filters
Four 20-litre containers of gasoline.

Officers escort suspect Sun Mingchen, 31, to Pattaya Provincial Court to seek pre-trial detention on Saturday. id="7867e6c1ab5d1a664e149ade5791aa9e" style="display:none">
In absolute terms, fatal drink-driving cases have stayed in the low double digits, with 13 cases recorded in 2023 and 12 in 2024.

This pattern has carried into 2025, as up to June, there were two fatal accidents involving drink driving, or 0.06 per cent of the 3,087 fatal accidents recorded nationwide.

By comparison, even though Malaysia recorded more than 3,000 road fatalities in just the first half of 2025 alone, drink driving remained among the least common contributors to fatal crashes — a pattern seen throughout recent years.

Post-2020 amendment to legal framework

Against this backdrop, the government had strengthened its legal approach to drink driving in October 2020 through amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987.

The changes included reducing the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit from 80mg to 50mg per 100ml of blood, alongside heavier penalties.

Fines were increased to as much as RM100,000, jail terms of up to 10 to 15 years were introduced for cases involving death, and licence disqualification periods were extended, including up to 20 years for repeat offenders.

Although there was some pushback in 2020 over the amendments’ focus on drink-driving, the changes significantly tightened penalties for such offences.

Cases brought to court

Beyond fatalities, enforcement data provides a clearer picture of how such offences are handled through the legal system.

Between 2021 and September 2024, 149 drink-driving cases involving accidents were charged in court, averaging roughly 35 to 40 cases per year.

These cases reflect incidents where collisions occurred and do not capture the full number of offences detected.

More recent figures point to a broader volume of cases moving through the courts whereby a total of 1,261 cases related to driving under the influence were convicted between January and November 2025, according to Transport Ministry data.

The figure, however, includes offences involving both alcohol and drugs, and reflects cases across multiple provisions of the Road Transport Act.

Enforcement activity

Taking a wider view, the volume of cases corresponds with sustained enforcement efforts on the ground.

Police carry out roadblocks and targeted operations throughout the year to detect impaired driving.

In 2021 alone, authorities conducted over 1,200 enforcement operations, screened thousands of motorists, and detected more than 2,600 drink-driving offences.

In 2024, authorities again recorded several thousand cases involving impaired driving, including those that involved alcohol and drugs, with monthly enforcement operations routinely numbering in the hundreds during festive and high-risk periods.

A similar trend was observed in 2025, where 1,261 convictions were recorded between January and November.

Recent attention on the issue

Recent fatal incidents involving suspected drunk drivers have drawn renewed public attention and prompted calls for tougher action.

Although such cases often resonate strongly, the broader figures do not indicate a clear upward trend in drink-driving fatalities.

While annual figures show hundreds to over a thousand impaired-driving cases prosecuted each year, fatalities typicall remain around a dozen annually.

But authorities and road safety advocates stress that even low fatality numbers do not diminish the risks posed by drink driving, which remains a persistent and preventable threat on Malaysian roads.

---+---+---
Be sober before reading above long article.
Put in a few key words, you can get a coherent summary of all searches it did.

Animal farm... the writings on the wall

---+---+---

AI Overview

The "writings on the wall" in George Orwell's novel Animal Farm refer to the Seven Commandments of Animalism, which are painted on the side of the barn wall and progressively altered by the pigs to justify their corruption and rise to power.

The Original Seven Commandments
Initially, the Commandments were the "unalterable law" of the farm, created to ensure no animal adopted the vices of their former human masters.
Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
No animal shall wear clothes.
No animal shall sleep in a bed.
No animal shall drink alcohol.
No animal shall kill any other animal.
All animals are equal.

The Alterations and the Final Commandment
As the pigs, led by Napoleon and Squealer, gradually usurp power and adopt human behaviors, they secretly modify the commandments at night to suit their needs.

"No animal shall sleep in a bed" was changed to "No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets" when the pigs move into the farmhouse.

"No animal shall drink alcohol" became "No animal shall drink alcohol to excess" after the pigs discover whiskey.

"No animal shall kill any other animal" was altered to "No animal shall kill any other animal without cause" to justify the execution of animals deemed "traitors".

By the end of the novel, all the original commandments are erased, leaving only a single, summary maxim that encapsulates the pigs' complete betrayal of the revolution:
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

The phrase "writings on the wall" is a central symbol in the novel, highlighting the manipulation of language, the malleability of truth, and the dangers of an uneducated populace in a totalitarian regime.

---+---+---
Get educated, my friend.
