IKEA Gorm Transport issues

Guys, I know this is a long shot, but imma try anyway.

I intend to purchase this shelf from ikea (Link!)' but I'm having trouble bringing it back home. I know the package dimension states 111cm as the longest dimension, but the shelf is 174cm tall, which should be the longest package dimension logically.

I've measured, and it's a really tight squeeze with the seats folded down, and in practice it might not be practical at all. I am aware of ikea's delivery, but barring that option, has anyone tried transporting this particular shelf or smth similar in a myvi?

[WTA] How much does a punching bag cost?

Hey guise. I saw a punching bag for sale at Mid Valley recently, and unfortunately, I didn't have the time to check it out. So I'm just curious, how much do these things go for? Its designed to be placed on the ground, not hung like most gyms do.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

AFAIK, TI-84 Plus is the norm, and I believe that there are no retailers around Taylor's. My class intends to purchase in bulk, so if there are any contacts out there whom I may talk to or negotiate with, kindly let me know via this thread?
Is this a fault on streamyx's site or is it the modem? I've had it replaced (was using an ancient modem also from them) and ever since i've been suffering from spotty connections. Takes an awfully long time to connect to streamyx too, and my torrents never passed 30kbps recently compared to 150-160 previously. Currently using Bvpn so throttling shouldn't be an issue.

Sparks from power strip when switch is turned on

I've noticed this problem with my torrent rig, equipped with a Silverstone ST400 IINM (one of the low-end ones). Its a torrent rig, so its seldom turned off, but i've noticed on the occasions when i have to turn it on again and i flip the power swtich, there are sparks coming from the switch itself, which is pretty unnerving as it is where i lay my finger. I've changed the PSU cable, no difference. Only thing i can glean is that it only occurs after the PC is turned off for a long time, say, one day. Changed power strip, same thing. The power strip supplies power to relatively low-power peripherals like a modem and a router, so overloading can be ruled out.

Google came up with this: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?...23fb0169d287f65

Similar case, concluded as a PSU problem. I'd RMA this PSU, but only as a last resort (don't want to waste my vpn subscription ) after all other factors are ruled out.

Pretty disturbing, considering that SS is a solid brand, so is Corsair from the link.

Halpz is much appreciated.

Accidently installed xp twice.

Here's the thing. I was thinking of using my spare hard drive for archiving purposes, and decided to reformat it. Silly me went ahead and selected install new OS instead of choosing repair and using format command. For some reason, my main hard drive now has another copy of xp installed. Now whenever I boot up my pc I am prompted to select an os, sorta like double boot except both choices are xp. Also, my sp3 is reverted back to sp2, the service pack that comes with the cd.

I tried using fixboot command after booting from the xp installation cd, but the os select screen is still there. I didn't try fixmbr as it said that my partitions could be damaged and unreadable.

In a nutshell, how do I remove the second installation of xp without reformatting?

Phone cable splitting woes. Help!

This is the current set up i'm using. I'm trying to get two phones to share the same line, but to no avail. Every time i use a splitter to split the wire that is connected to the current phone (i.e. 2 phones, one modem), the modem disconnects the moment the phone rings. I have no such problem with one modem and one telephone.

I use this to split the phone line. What i am trying to achieve is to have two telephones and one modem to share the same line. Is it possible? Any specific splitters i have to look for? I'm a total noob at this, so bear with me.

If this is in the wrong section, let me know.

Thanks!

EDIT: What is this filted/unfiltered thingy i'm seeing on some websites?

[WTA] Athlon 64 2000

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Atom-A...cient,1997.html

Question is, where can i get this processor? I've built a BT rig recently, went for AM2 platform. I picked the X2 5000+ because at that time, it was the lowest spec AMD proc, aside from the Sempron X2 and the Athlon 64s.

After using it for a couple of months, i feel that efficiency is just not there. I use it to BT movies and series, and occasionally encode them into mp4 format for mobile viewing when i don't feel like using my main rig.

I'd like to know which processor available locally (assuming the Athlon 64 2000+ is not available here) strikes the best balance between power and performance:

Athlon 64 (LE1640, i suppose its a Low Energy proc?)

Sempron X2 (kinda skeptical, reviews don't look that promising, cache is pathetic too. Correct me if i'm wrong)

Athlon 64 X2 (A dying breed it seems, PC Zone has less and less of their variants. I've read that its possible to downclock it further, currently lowest it can go is 1.0 Ghz via CnC. Is there any way to permanently do it? I know basic overclocking, but downclocking i have no clue.)

My most favoured option currently, if downclocking can bring power consumption during BT down to 50W or less.

Will be paired with/currently using Asus M2N-68AM.

OR,

should i go for a Atom setup? Speeds will definitely plummet, and i prolly can't enjoy web surfing + encoding + BTing any more. This would be my last resort if the power consumption gap between the Atom and the above procs is too big to ignore.

Bear in mind this rig only runs with one SATA HDD and a Silverstone 400W, no lights, no optical drive, no fans.

An awfully long-winded post, but i thought i'd make things a clear on the first time. If you read this far, much thanks.
[WTA] File Sharing Security

Kaspersky?

I have a main PC and a torrent rig on my network. Just recently i've discovered the convenience of transferring files via network, and i've shared my entire downloads file so i can access them via my main PC. This question popped up tho, how safe is it? Can anyone enter my home network uninvited via WLAN? The security is entirely router-dependent, no need for any further config for shared files?

Also, i've posted the question in Hardware Q&A, but feel free to take a look and drop your two cents.

QUOTE

WTA, does the router affect transfer speeds amongst PCs? I'm using a home network and transfer speeds were around 1.5-2 mbps (according to Vista file transfer) from a torrent PC to a notebook wirelessly. Does WAN (connections to the Internet) affect local transfer speeds? Does my PC need any extra hardware to transfer files faster?

Thanks for reading.
Guys, im really cracking my head here.

After i purchased a new key for my Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, i've been facing this problem. Every time i shut down or at random intervals, BSOD just appears with that message. Now, i've tried swapping RAMs, ran memtest, but everything came back clean. I'm beginning to suspect its Kaspersky, but i'm not exactly sure what is the problem here.

Any ideas would be much appreciated..

[addedon]April 16, 2009, 10:48 pm[/addedon]UPDATE: I managed to reinstall version 7.0 (the previous one) and get it to work with my current key. Just check "keep activation data" when you uninstall 8.0.

Its a jerry-rig solution, but it works, at least for the time being. Keeps my comp protected without all the new technology fluff that messes up my comp.

Hey guise, i just received a RAR file from my friend. The name of the file is facebook_photo5 or smth along those lines. I unzipped it, and as soon as i saw the exe file, i deleted the whole thing. I hope that im safe now (touchwood), and im running kaspersky's full scan.

The major problem does not lie with me now, but with my friend. She has thousands of photos and songs and being a girl, no backups were made. I'm recommending getting a paid AV, but i doubt its gonna do much help now.

Any pointers to get started removing this virus?

Converting recorded DVD to usable format.

Recently, i recorded a series of videos during a friend's birthday party. However, when i load the CD into my PC, all i see are various files that ends with .vob and .ifo under the VIDEO_TS folder. The whole recording is still watchable, but only when it is in the 8 cm DVD; when copied to my HDD, the indexing (basically the content page to view all the clips recorded, usable when in CD) is unusable. What im trying to do it distribute the files to my friends, and from what i see, the only way to do it is to burn individual copies of the exact same copy found on the original DVD. It would still be nice to put everything into a single file, like .avi or .mpeg. Is that possible?

EDIT: I tried using the software bundled with my camcorder (Sony DCR-DVD805), PicturePackage, but it doesnt seem to do what i intend to.

Nvidia Driver Woes

So, this morning when i booted up my PC for another intoxicating round of games, a rather unsightly sight greeted me. For some reason, my desktop was on 1024 x 768 and not 1680 x 1050 as per native resolution. Turns out that Nvidia drivers were screwed (i did not do anything prior to this incident). I uninstalled the previous driver and downloaded 162.18, but double-clicking it doesnt seem to work. In the end i had to dig up the installation CD bundled with my graphics card.

Currently the resolution problem's solved but im running on 9x.xx. I downloaded a few 16x.xx drivers but double-clicking it doesnt work. Any suggestions?

Ibanez or LTD?

Well, after spending some time searching around, I've finally come down to these two guitars, the Ibanez RG370DXL and the LTD M-50 left-hand. (Yes, I'm doomed to the limited models of left-handed electric guitars, but so be it. )

I tried the M-50 (lefty) at Guitar Collection, Mid Valley, whereas my friend has the right-handed Ibanez model. Both are fine with me (heck, I dont know anything about electric guitars), but I'm kinda skeptical with the three way switch on the M-50 and the H-H pickup of the M-50. The LTD M-50 has some cool distortions, but I'm not so sure about its clean tone.

Now, my questions are :

1. Would the H-S-H pickup tear a gap in terms of sound compared to the H-H one? I intend to play a wide range of songs from funky to noisy, metal ones.

2. Overall, which guitar would be in your favour? In terms of durability, sound, and maybe looks? This will be my first electric guitar ( currently learning acoustic ) and will be for quite some time. (The price gap isn't too big I guess, the Ibanez is around RM1,4xx (Bentley's, ordered from Indonesia) while the M-50 is RM1,298.)

3. Can someone explain what is a Wizard II Neck and Edge III (L) bridge. And why does it say 3 piece Maple Neck Material?
Referred from Ibanez RG370DXL

4. Is 24 frets needed?

5. The thing which you control with the whammy bar (not sure what its called, is it a tremolo bridge?), the person at Guitar Collection said the M-50 Is one-way, while the Ibanez has a two-way whatever-you-call-it. A friend mentioned that a 2-way would be better, but is it necessary?

6. Is there anywhere else where I can get an Ibanez? Preferbly around the Golden Triangle or PJ or Shah Alam area. An order placed at Bentley's would take 3 months, if I'm not mistaken.

7. Do I have to get a pricey amp?

That's all I have in mind, for now. Thanks for leaving a simple reply, or even reading through, it looks messy to me, and there'll prolly be errors in it as im kinda sleepy right now.
