Real measure to save MAS

The only practical solution to save MAS is to get rid of these two chief culprits of the current deep mess that it is in now. In so doing, we will also stop lots of bleeding that these two incompetent fools had initiated. They caused our country billions of losses, and yet living the life of luxury getting salary and perks of millions per year.

Deputy Chairman of Khazanah Nor Mohamed Yakcop said MAS is facing financial turbulence a 'Merger Airasia the unavoidable truth

The airline's current chairman is a former banker and led Malaysia Airlines through a previous restructuring more than a decade ago, when it was also on the point of collapse. Although the airline returned to profitability under his leadership, the performance could not be sustained. It's swung between modest profits and troubling losses ever since.

http://themalaybusinesstribune.blogspot.co...or-mohamed.html

The above questions have been asked through Parliament since last year and the little Napoleons in Khazanah has been hiding behind the “NON-DISCLOSURE” in the consultancy agreement between BinaFikir Sdn Bhd and MAS for the WAU Project. BinaFikir was incorporated in January 2002 and almost soon after it was awarded by MAS to restructure MAS. WAU was coined. The two co-founders of BinaFikir were Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar and his most trusted crony, En Mohamed Rashdan Yusof.

WAU took 8 1/2 months to complete. It was also under WAU that 70% of MAS Catering Sdn Bhd was sold to Gubahan Saujana Sdn Bhd (Gubahan), a company owned by Datuk Ibrahim bin Ahmad Badawi, the brother of YB Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the former PM. Thereafter, Gubahan was changed to LSG Sky Chef Brahim’s Sdn Bhd. It was also during the Project WAU that MAS entered into a lope sided 25 yearscatering contract with LSG Sky Chef Brahim’s Sdn Bhd that cost MAS a total of RM6.25 billion.

http://weechookeong.com/2012/06/22/binafik...an-rm3-million/

Bear in mind, Azman Mokhtar and his partner in crime, Danny Yusof were the ones responsible for the Wide Asset Unbundling (“WAU”) back in 2002 which at that point of time promised everyone to be THE strategy to save MAS.

Fast forward to the future, we know that WAU was a failure. All the double degrees attained from Oxbridge by Danny Yusof or years of experience being a consultant by Azman Mokhtar couldn’t save MAS the first time. What makes them think they can save MAS the second time?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So we are back to square one. In fact, MAS’ position right after the shareswap is even worse than years before the WAU. Now, MAS is in the hands of its competitor – Air Asia.

Even having a Chief Operating Officer in the form of Mohd Zainal Shaari, another consultant, which was brought into Khazanah from PricewaterhouseCoopers can’t seem to save us from further losing money.

The most favourite word of a consultant (and investment banker) is corporate restructuring.

Restructure this and that. Hoping for a synergy of sorts. But restructuring a business on paper via equity transfers are not the only solution to make a business more viable. Any businessmen would know that. But the bosses in Khazanah are not businessmen. Trying to meddle in operations when you have close to zero knowledge about the business is a disaster waiting to happen.

How could Danny Yusof be appointed as the Group Deputy CEO of MAS in charge of operations when he left a trail of failures behind him? He did not do well in Aseambanker (he is not an investment banker); he was in charge of the restructuring of RapidKL of which the Operational Agreement he concocted made RapidKL even worse (he is not a public transport expert); RapidKL had to be restructured again in 2009 before it could sink even deeper.

And now he is trusted to manage MAS’ operations? Is he an aviation expert?

Do you know that MAS has no Chief Financial Officer for the longest time? How could a national carrier operate without a CFO? Not only that, the position of Head of Communication is vacant. No wonder MAS is floundering financially and publicly, its image is not all good.

This is not the first time Khazanah making disastrous decisions. In the first part of this article, it was mentioned that Khazanah lost RM18 billion worth of investments in 2008. They suffered losses when their tuna fishing venture lost RM120 million. In the Parkway Holdings fiasco, they lost RM935 million faster than David Copperfield could say “Hey presto!”.

Rumours are also circling that they are suffering losses inMalaysia Agrifood Corporation Berhad (“MAFC”) – an agriculture venture they cooked up a few years ago.

The mother of all debacle would be the KTM land deal in Tanjung Pagar. After Azman Mokhtar boasted that the deal he pioneered with Singapore was a breakthrough and that the deal is fair and good for Malaysia, he embarrassed Malaysians when Khazanah did not do enough homework and was terribly inefficient in its dealings with Temasek Holdings.

Basically what happened was, under the deal negotiated by Azman, Malaysia will swap the KTM land in Tanjong Pagar for land parcels in affluent Marina South and Ophir-Rochor. The greedy Khazanah probably was swayed with the 60-40 ownership of said land parcels and overlooked a development fee charged by Singapore.

In other words, Malaysians have to pay up to RM1 billion in the form of development fee due to Azman’s sheer inability to negotiate a better position for us. To put it bluntly, Azman successfully negotiated a money losing deal for Malaysia.

http://jebatmustdie.wordpress.com/2011/12/...must-go-part-1/

https://jebatmustdie.wordpress.com/2011/12/...ly-go-part-two/

http://jebatmustdie.wordpress.com/2011/12/...-go-now-part-3/
Cheap way to destroy the aedes mosquitoes
I WAS taken aback by the speed with which mosquito larvae appeared in the few uncovered pails of water I placed in my garden during this time of water rationing.

Their swift presence in less than 36 hours was like magic.

This shows mosquitoes are amazingly highly opportunistic and able to adapt to most environment to breed. I took a fish net, had them scooped up and destroyed.

Even if residents take great pains to curtail the breeding of aedes mosquitoes by ensuring the no presence of stagnant water around their neighbourhood and maintain a high degree of cleanliness; mosquitoes being highly efficient and adaptive species would still be able to find their breeding ground anyway and may still pose a threat to the residents.

It then dawned on me that if every household were to prepare a few containers of water without the lids, and allow the mosquito larvae to be trapped and destroyed, we may be able to break their life cycle and hence reduce the numbers of this deadly pest.

The Health Ministry should perhaps try out this simple experiment in a few high risk dengue area by roping in at least 30% or more of the residents as serious volunteers. Trapping and destruction of the aedes larvae have to be routinely carried out by these volunteers over a period three or more months. Record the number of dengue cases within this period and compare it to the previous corresponding period.

I am optimistic that cases would be on the decline. Previously Kuala Lumpur City Hall did install some large insect electrocutor which were not only expensive but impractical as well.

CHONG FOI YUN

Kuala Lumpur

(From The Star)
