Need help measuring current with multimeter

Hi guys,

Long story short, I do not know the correct method to measure current using multimeter (i only have multimeter, no other devices)

Wanted to learn this long time ago, but got no one to guide me

Situation (1)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

[attachmentid=10948816]

is this the right way to measure current ??

Situation (2)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

[attachmentid=10948817]

All my devices are soldered with 3.3V line and GND line parallelly, how can i measure the total current consumption of the entire circuit ?

My plan is : to set up multimeter in the correct measuring position, then when i switch on the circuit, im able to observe how much peak current the devices will shoot up to. (these devices will connect to wifi, hence i heard when they first start up, the current will spike up to 200mA or so).

Thank you !

[FIXED] Asus monitor brightness reset

hello

i've bought a new low end asus monitor

but i encountered a weird problem, which is the brightness of my monitor will be reset after each restart/boot up...the interesting thing is only brightness settings is changed, the rest of the settings are remembered by the monitor

example :

*desktop boot up*
1)set mode as - standard mode
2)set brightness - 50
3)set blue light filter - 25
4)contrast - 30

*desktop shut down*

*desktop boot up again*
1)check mode is still standard mode
2)check brightness is 0
3)check blue light filter is still 25
4)check contrast is still 30

its my first time owning a modern monitor (last time only used old vga monitor), is this how new monitor should have behaved ??

i need to adjust the brightness using the buttons on the monitor every time after booting up, doesn't really makes sense to me ?

Update GPU driver

hey guys, i have a Zotac GTX1060 6GB,

i did a quick check on my GPU driver, just realized my GPU driver is somehow not matched with the one i found on Zotac website, I've downloaded the one from Zotac (466.27), whereas my device manager is showing mine with 27.21.14.5671.

but here's my another question, can i actually download my driver from Nvidia site ? cuz i searched for 1060 on nvidia and it downloads another one (466.47), different from the one on Zotac, actually which one do i use ?

but what confuses me is that, how come i click 'search automatically got drivers' in the device manager windows 10, it says im updated.

then the computer technician installed a 'intel driver & support' on my pc, and it also shows all drivers updated.

but i was able to find a different version driver on Zotac site and Nvidia site (in fact newer, cuz nvidia site shows 466.47 with a date 2021.5.18)

Summary:

1) I found Zotac driver (466.27) and Nvidia driver (466.47) with different versions, which one do i update my gpu driver???

2) (just for my extra knowledge), can i say all GTX/RTX GPU are under Nvidia ? Then how come there are so many brands like asus, zotac, gigabyte, msi out there ?

3) Device manager and "Intel Driver & Support Assistant" show that im using the latest GPU driver, but how come i still can find newer versions on Zotac/Nvidia site ??

HDMI - VGA converter

hi guys, first time own a desktop rig, not so familiar with these desktops

so now i bought a desktop rig with gtx1060, so from the gpu i can only see hdmi, and some other ports which i am not familiar with, but my old monitor (very very old) has vga port only.

so i bought 1x vga-vga cable, and 1x hdmi-vga converter (the shop sell me both of these for rm40++)

but yesterday first day set up my desktop, the monitor sometimes will go crazy, like the entire screen just move to left/right, or sometimes the colour will fade away, or sometimes suddenly blackscreen and hang

but this is not a gpu issue (because before i power it up, i asked my friend ( a computer technician) to help me touch up everything, run everything, all stress test works well, no display issue and stuff (that time he was using hdmi)

then, i tried another monitor which has only vga port only, tested it, with the same set up, surprisingly it shows 'no input detected'.

so i dont think its these monitors that are faulty, cuz they were working well before this...so my question :

(I have not tried hdmi yet, cuz I don't have a hdmi monitor...only got 2 vga monitor )

TL;DR - does cheap HDMI - VGA converter (HDMI on my GPU, VGA on monitor) will cause some incompatible issues on monitor screen, like sometimes just freeze or colour fade away or image totally dragged to the left ?

seriously need help, i dont know at this stage should i spend on a quality converter ? or just buy a rm400+ monitor will be a better choice

Gaming on normal laptop?

hey guys, i'm using a student laptop (Asus a510u), specs as below:

- CPU: i5 8th gen
- GPU: Nvidia 940mx
- 16GB ram (i upgraded it myself)
- 2 sata SSD drives (of course i upgraded on my own)

well, I'm a uni student, using this laptop for my engineering studies (Solidworks and stuff) that's why i upgrade both my RAMs and SSDs myself.

recently, im into gaming, I've tried 2 games on this laptop

1) watchdogs
2) star wars fallen Jedi

I play these high graphic games with low graphic settings, and at 720P resolution, my FPS is kinda stable and no stuttering at all because i play it with my charger plugged in.

so here comes my question,

my PC is showing stable FPS avg 30-40, but the GPU and CPU temp are both running at 85degree and 80 degree (never exceed 85degree),

i wonder is this ok for my laptop to handle ?? ( i game maximum for 3 hours only) cuz i did a quick search on google, they say around 80 degree should be fine for a laptop, as long as not around 95-100.
*do note that this laptop is not supposedly for gaming purpose, it is mostly recommended for student*

but was afraid that if i keep gaming, my laptop cannot handle in the end ...

what do u guys think ???

Printer for Uni student

hi guys,

any recommendation printer for a uni student that print quite a lot in each semester ??

what i need is only :
- able to print a lot without always refilling the cartridge
- able to print via wifi/bluetooth, cuz I'm using laptop, not desktop, cannot use cable to connect.
- b&w only, i don't use color printing at all
- don't need scanning/fax function also can

reason changing my old printer:

i was using a very very old printer, i think about 6/7 years back when i was a primary school student (now already a uni student)

then this 'old printer' always 'eat' my ink a lot, i bought a new cartridge, print a few pages (maybe 30+) then out of ink already

somemore those cartridge are not cheap, about rm50+ If not mistaken

so , i felt like not worth if i print a lot....

usually i will go to outside printing shop that cost me rm0.10 / page,

but recently due to mco and high chances my uni gonna go fully online for this entire year, i might as well get a printer so that i can print whenever i want

THANKS GUYS FOR THE INPUT !

PayPal refund issue

hi guys, so this thread will be regarding the refund from Paypal.

so recently, i have requested a refund from an international seller through Paypal. And yes, the refund is issued and was shown as 'pending'.

then, yesterday Paypal sent an email to me saying that the refund didn't go through, refund was not processed successfully on sender's side. then Paypal asked me to contact seller.

then i went to Paypal activity and checked my refund, it was crossed out like this '<s>refund</s>'.

next step, i contacted seller and Paypal both.

seller ----> obviously did not respond me, keeps ignoring me, felt like he's trying to do something funny here, not sure whether is he trying to play little trick and then avoid processing refund to me.

Paypal responds to me --->

1) i enquire them why my refund was not successful ?
paypal's answer : refund depends on the bank's processing time aswell. refund was already initiated on when when, so if refund hasn't reach your bank bank by when when, please contact your bank.

2) i further ask them, is it possible that a seller stop the refund process even though he has initiated a refund ?
paypal's answer : it is not possible for seller to that, once it is issued as refund, it will be refunded.

3) i further ask again, then why it is not successful and you asked to contact the seller then ? obviously seller is not replying me now
paypal's answer : they checked again, and looks like the payment method by sellers was not successful. and it would appear that the payment method used to refund you already failed.

i was like what ??? there is a contradiction between 1) and 3) from Paypal.

at first telling me bank processing time might be different and will take up to 30 days, but then telling me again the payment method to refund me is not successful. WHAT???

so, i did some googling, saw some forumer indeed took 30 days for the refund to get into their bank. but they didn't mention whether the refund process shown in Paypal is successful or was it 'crossed out' like what i did and received from Paypal.

anyone got any similar encounter, kindly let me know.

thanks !

Hi guys, I've heard from my computer science friends saying that there is a plagiarism checker for coding, is that true ?

I only know turnitin which detects plagiarism in text, but not code structure.

iTunes backup + restore photos in camera roll

Hi guys, I may have messed up my iTunes backup process when I was trying to backup old iPhone 8 to the computer.

Now the problem is I am able to restore the iPhone, with all the apps installed but there was no photos or videos restored in my album.

Yesterday I’ve read in the internet that iTunes backup IS ABLE TO backup the entire phone INCLUDING the photos in camera roll.

So here’s my step:

1) plug in my phone
2) iTunes recognised my device
3) hit the backup button (encrypt the backup thingy)
4) it clearly shows this device is backed up on this computer at 8:51pm
5) I wiped my phone from the settings on phone
6) today I plugged in my phone
7) launch restore iPhone on iTunes
8) all apps are installed on iPhone 8 again but album is totally blank

And I thought iTunes is able to back up my photos according to some site I found on google. I don’t believe this and I even restore my iPhone for 2 times.

And 2 times gave me the same result, all apps instAlled exept for photos in my camera roll.

Any advice? Does iTunes backup doesn’t include photos at all?? Or i messed up some process during the backup and restore process ?

Robotic Omniwheels slippery

Hi robotic sifu, currently having a uni project, my vehicle is made up of Omni wheels ( like the ones shown in bottom ), but this wheel is kinda slippery , and tends to skid on the track.

I have tried spraying plastidip rubber coating, it works at first but it's not gonna last long, only 2-3 runs then it came off already.

Is there any other method to increase traction on this wheel ?

I actually have thought of using heatshrink, but the roller on Omniwheels cannot be disassembled, the entire wheel is not possible to disassemble, so I can't use heatshrink, not unless I cut it off, wrap around the roller and then stick using adhesive , heat it again

Thank you in advance.
