Suggestion: Mandatory <Old News> Tag

Dear All,

Would like to suggest introducing mandatory <Old News> tag in kopitiam, similar to how <WTS> tags is enforced in garage sales.

Hope this can be remedy to forummers who are finding creative ways to incite religious/racial sentiments without breaking forum rules and regulations. Because technically, they are only posting old news.

Case on point:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4963479

If we can close threads that don't include mandatory <Old News> tag:
- Remove this easy loophole/method for trolls to bait racial and religious arguments, without affecting other users who want to discuss old news (freedom of speech)
- Easier for Admin/Mods to close thread (just for not having tag, no need to argue with TS to justify disciplinary action), and to ban repeat offenders
- Easier for forummer to report (again, no need to justify how old news is racist or inciting religious argument)

Hope this makes it to discussion/consideration. Thanks

Deleting old contacts from Facebook

This is a follow-up on my previous (not-so-laku) tered 3 years ago:

Your most common reason to silently delete people from Facebook

Based on previous tered, more than half delete friends who are not close anymore. If interpreted correctly, deleting contacts off facebook is considered acceptable from the user's opinion and hence, widely practised will little to no restraint. Being perceived as acceptable means no one expects people to feel offended by it.

But is that true?

3 years later today, have you experienced retaliation from the people you deleted? is it still as harmless as we thought 3 years ago?

Thanks!

I was going through my dashcam footage for the week, and there are alot of drivers caught in the footage talking over the phone/playing with their phones, running red lights etc. Am thinking maybe gahmen already have some incentive in place for kaki report so I googled a bit. Sure enough I saw this:

http://www.carlist.my/news/your-photos-can...offenders/16963

Sounds like a lot of work, apart from doing the public a favor is there anything else that potential kaki report get?

Silently delete old contact from Facebook

Let me qualify this first:
i. The contact is not a stalker/suspected stalker.
ii. The contact is not a mlm/direct sales spammer
ii. This is not rage delete after a big argument etc

Facebook is here long enough to have additional features of "unfollowing" and complex privacy settings to allow you to retain a link while not seeing their posts, or letting them see yours. That makes deleting a true bridge-burning matter, an act of not acknowledging your acquaintance with him/her anymore.

So why burn the bridge? All age groups welcome (high school kids to retired), this even happens in my age group too, where a noticeable part of our friends list are business associates/vendors

Question on daisy chaining

Dear Sifu's

My Dell 7447 has a HDMI™ v1.4a output. Currently I hook it to my AOC I2360SD using a HDMI-to-DVI cable.
I'm now very tempted to get a Dell U2414H.

My question is, If can use a HDMI-to-DP cable to hook up the U2414H first, then from the U2414H use a DP-to-DVI to connect to the I2360SD, will it work?

Rig Spec Recommendation

After 10 years of hiding in the cave, I'm currently at the planning phase of building a replacement rig. This rig will be permanently placed at the study corner of my room.

Purpose:
First and foremost, I'm not interested in overclocking. I just want my rig to stay relevant for at least 5 years to serve the below purposes:
1) Surfing, Watching anime and drama
2) Some gaming - mostly RTS and any new strategy games that will pop up. Want to be able to play new games at Med settings, High settings will be a bonus but not a must.
3) Music - Something that can deliver decent SQ, with emphasis on clarity. Doesn't need to be audiophile grade.
4) Productivity - I plan to be able to hook this up with at least two monitors so that I can work through multiple spreadsheets/word/ppt while being at home.

After lurking around websites and threads, and adjusting my specs multiple times, this is my current planned setup:

I7-4790
Seasonic S12G-550
Corsair Carbide 100R Silent
MSI H97-GAMING 3
ASUS GTX960 STRIX dc ii oc (To be bought later)
KVR D3 8GB PC 1600 x 2
Liteon S900 Series 256
Mechanical HDD will be added as and when needed

My biggest worry is the motherboard. I have no other criteria for choice of motherboard other than it needing to be compatible with the specs that I have, and has M.2 slot. Durability and stability (stability as in low chance of going in and out the service centre for RMA) is the most important criteria. Because of this I always get confused between choosing either the below:
MSI H97 Gaming 3
Asrock h97 pro4
ASUS H97-Plus
The last time I bought a motherboard was on 2003, and things are so different now. So I don't know what's a good choice to look for now.

Thank you sifu sifu sekalian. Look forward to your advice.

Bill Shock from Telco?

Dear Folks in Kopitiam,

First of all, this was not posted under networks/broadband because it's only comparison of price shock and rarely discusses service quality etc. If mod disagrees please move my thread.

Thread inspired from current news on crackdown on fake advertising, which would also include making false claim of affordable services but ending with exorbitant charges: Crackdown on Advertising. However I'm not implying that telco's are cheating people.

Have you faced the situations where supposedly certain services are supposed to be "use all you can" but ending up being charged sky high when it ends up in your bill?
Have you faced the situations where you could have sworn that you only used RM 50 max at the back of your head, but bills came up RM 79.95, but in the bills the telco is still able to substantiate and claim that every cent is legit and payable?
Do you have the feeling that while you've subscribed to this services for donkey years, all you have experienced is the advancement of creative accounting, plus' and minus' and also excessively added lines of calculation of the monthly which almost seemed to be aimed at squeezing even more ringgits and cents from your wallet?

Here, please vote if you think so. Yes, think so. Let the polls tell how suspicious the bills of certain providers are.
Note: Being suspicious doesn't mean that they are wrong, they just appear that way.

I hope this thread sheds a bit more light on how other telco's are doing right now. Also it's definitely be a good guide for future user who want to port to services that are more transparent in billing.
