Proton Extended Warranty

Hi,

I got my Proton car few weeks ago.

I just realized that I was not eligible for the extended warranty policy because my SA did not register my car under Allianz Insurrance, so my warranty right now is 2 years or 50k KM mileage, whichever comes first.

So, I called Proton iCare asking about this and the only way for me to be eligible is to switch my Insurance company to Alianz, which means I might have to fork out cash to do that.

Is it worth doing so to get the extended warranty?

What are my chances?

Hi,

I applied for a car loan from a bank few months ago and it was approved.

Waited for almost 3 months, and the car was not delivered (due to manufacturing issue) so I updated my loan to changed to another car. The loan amount is the same as previous car, but this time they reduced my loan amount by RM 12k because I got 2 EPP on my credit card worth RM 5k. They're worried that I couldn't afford my car monthly repayment because of the EPP installment.

So my option is either to top up another RM 12k to my downpayment (which I don't have) or clear off RM5k EPP from my CC (which is what I did).

I faxed them the credit card payment receipt yesterday (Thursday) and was told that I would know whether my loan was approved or not today (Friday). Called them aound 4:30pm today and they said there's no reply yet from their HQ, and I might have to wait until next Tuesday to get the result since Monday is a public holiday.

What are my chances to get the loan approved? I'm a bit worried. It will be sad if it's not approved since I have forked out RM 5k to clear off my EPP, and I don't have RM 12k to top up the downpayment.

Additional info:

Car Price : RM 60k
Downpayment : RM 10k
Car Interest: 3.65%
Repayment period: 7 years.
Monthly repayment: RM 747.32
My net salary: +- RM 2.8k without taking account of OT.

Desktop replacement notebook

Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a desktop replacement notebook to replace my aging 3+ years old desktop. I'm currently looking at Dell Studio 17 & Dell Studio XPS 16.

Main purpose of the notebook will be watching HD Movies & TV Series, so bigger screen size and larger HDD would be an advantage. I don't want to get a desktop since I would be travelling outstation (around 2 - 3 times per month) and would like to bring along my notebook so I can catch up with the TV Series (addicted already).

I'm currently leaning toward Studio 17 because of it's 17" screen and the ability to add 2nd HDD. I'm not really into gaming, so weak GPU is not an issue as long it can play HD Videos acceptably.

What do you guys think about Studio 17? Do you guys have other recommendations?

Upgrading my PC

My current PC spec:

AMD Athlon AM2 X2 4800+
2GB DDR667 RAM
nForce 430 with GeForce 6150 intergrated GPU

I'm planning to upgrade my GPU & RAM. For the GPU, I'm eyeing on AMD 4850 & nVidia 9800GT. Which one gives the best performance/price ratio right now?

As for the RAM, will I get any noticeable performance boost in Gaming if I add more RAM? I'm using Vista Ultimate 32bit by the way.

Upgrading Graphic Card

My PC Spec:

AMD Athlon X2 3600+
2GB DDR2 667 RAM
nForce 430 mobo with integrated GeForce 6150 (128MB Shared RAM)

I'm doing a degree in Animation so I have to do all my 3D Assignments (using Maya) on my computer. Currently the performance when I'm doing 3D Moddling is acceptable, but speed of rendering the 3D animation is a bit low for my liking. It took around 20 seconds to render a frame so if I set the animation to 24 frame per second, it's going to take around 8 minutes to render 1 second worth of animation.

I know that upgrading Graphic Card will speed things up, but which graphic card? From Maya's official website, they recommend using workstation graphic cards, which are not affordable at all, so will normal gaming graphic card do? My budget is around RM 500.

Also, do I have to upgrade my RAM? Currently, RAM usage when I'm rendering a test scene in Maya only hovers around 1GB, so I doubt that the slowdown is caused by insufficient RAM.

Claiming warranty from Seagate

My Seagate HDD failed to work about 2 weeks ago, so I decided to send it in for RMA.

I bought the HDD on September 2005, and since it has been more than a year since I bought it (1 year warranty shop finished), I have to claim the warranty by myself.

I went to Seagate's website, and filled in an online RMA form. Then I was instructed to either hand in / mail in the spoiled HDD to the following address:

I sent the HDD by PosLaju to the above address on 14th October, and according to Pos Malaysia, the parcel arrived on 16th October.

I called the agent's / distributor's phone number to confirm my HDD's arrival, and they rudely told me that I have to contact Seagate Singapore directly to ask about RMA status. Their receptionist answered the phone, I told her that I want to confirm about my HDD arrival. She forwarded me to their warehouse. A guy answered, and he told me, their job is only to send spoiled HDD returned to them to Seagate Singapore. In short word, they are only the "middleman".

I wait for about a week before checking Seagate's website because I know it'll take time for the agent / distributor to send the HDD to Singapore.

3 days ago (25th October) I went to Seagate's website to check my RMA status. I was furious to find out that Seagate Singapore hasn't received my HDD after 9 days the agent / distributor received my HDD.

I sent an e-mail to Seagate's Customer service (I quote my RMA number, HDD Serial number, model number, where I sent, when the parcel arrived, etc) and asked about my RMA status. An automated e-mail reply told me that I have to wait around 24 - 72 hours before I'll get a reply from Seagate Customer's Support.

Today, (28th October) I finally got a reply from Seagate and they said they still haven't received my HDD and asked me to check with my Courier (in this case, PosLaju). I contacted PosLaju and they have successfully sent the HDD to the agent / distributor above on 16th October.

I sent a reply, and again I state that I have sent the HDD to their agent / distributor at the address above, and they are supposed to have my HDD on the 16th October. I haven't received a reply from Seagate.

I can't call the agent / distributor. I think their staff is only back to work on Monday.

Is there anything else I can / supposed to do?
