High school teacher who reported school misconduct found dead in Incheon

SEOUL: A high school teacher in his 50s who had reportedly exposed corruption and misconduct at his school was found dead after falling from an apartment building in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, police said Wednesday (May 20).

According to police and local reports, the teacher, surnamed Ahn, was found dead near the entrance of an apartment complex in Janghowon-eup at around 2pm on Wednesday. He lived on the 13th floor of the building.

Police said no suicide note was found at the scene. Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, investigators believe there are no signs of foul play.

The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union said Ahn had filed a public interest report in December 2023 alleging embezzlement, accounting irregularities and drunk driving involving officials at the school where he worked.

Following the report, Ahn allegedly faced difficulties at work and was sued for defamation by his colleague, according to the union.

“A court later found the whistleblower’s claims to be true, with the accused receiving prison sentences,” a union official said.

“Despite that, Ahn continued to face difficulties in carrying out his duties and had been on leave when this tragedy occurred.”

Gout is on the rise, with the disease becoming more common among younger Malaysians today.

A drop of water touched his foot - and pain shot through his body.

“It felt like a sharp needle had just stabbed my flesh,” recalled Iwan (not his real name), describing one of his gout attacks.

Diagnosed at just 25, the graphic designer has been living with the disease, caused by excess uric acid in the body – leading to pain in joints, especially the feet.

Now at 44, Iwan keeps his condition under control with medication.

But his story reflects a worrying trend: more Malaysians are developing gout, with the disease affecting younger patients today.

No longer the “disease of kings”

Once believed to only affect the wealthy due to their access to seafood and red meat, gout is now a common illness - which has become even more prevalent.

Cases have gone up by 21.55% between 1990 and 2020, said the Health Ministry, citing a study on Asian disease burden.

From 109 gout cases for every 100,000 people in 1990, the rate in Malaysia has gone up to about 133 in 2020.

“Gout is also presenting at a younger age among patients, based on anecdotal evidence,” the ministry told The Star, adding that Malaysia has yet to have national prevalence studies on it.

A local study in Malaysia had once shown that the average age of gout patients was around 53.

But doctors say more patients in their 20s and 30s are seeing them with their first gout attack.

This was uncommon before.

“This reflects on how we live and what we eat – particularly more sugary drinks and processed food,” said Malaysian Medical Association president Datuk Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo.

He said treating young patients was a result of years of limited awareness, and a system that often intervenes too late.

Federation of Private Medical Practitioners' Associations Malaysia president Dr Shanmuganathan TV Ganeson said gout is emerging as a silent epidemic.

“It is no longer confined to older or affluent populations.

“The situation is likely driven by dietary patterns, sedentary lifestyles, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes,” he said.

Consultant rheumatologist Dr Pradeep Dass said traditionally, gout tends to affect men aged between 40 and 60 but it was no longer unusual to see patients in their 20s.

“This is especially those with strong family histories, obesity or underlying metabolic risk factors,” he said.

I'd say it's still a loooong way. Because ChatGPT or any other AI really loves to make things up. These past few months I relied a lot on ChatGPT because I'm too lazy to read the documentations particularly for AWS DynamoDB and Redis, so I just asked ChatGPT and sometimes Gemini. While I can say they gives maybe 70% things correct, the other 30% that these ai spewed are just bs. And they spewed these bs so confidently lol. Wasted my time because at the end of the day I had to go through the documentations and write the codes myself

So I googled "why sometimes chatgpt just make things up" and apparently they have the term "AI hallucination". So it seems currently AI are just like politicians; sometimes (ok to be fair politicians do this all the time) they just say some bs and tried to justify it until we present the fact to their face then only will they say oh sorry"
