Has anyone taken a bank loan to study overseas?

Hi, just like to find out if anyone's taken a bank loan to study in Australia or anywhere else in the world. Did you go to the university you twinned with or did you go elsewhere? Was a credit transfer possible? Do share. I don't understand what the hell the people at JPA are saying.

Questions About Battery

I have a Compaq Presario V3222AU(AMD Turion X2 1.6 GHz) notebook. It performs very well and for a budget entry-level laptop, it has done me a lot of good. I have questions related to the battery power though.

1) My laptop is 9 months old but recently, its been showing signs that its battery power can only last for 45 - 50 minutes. It used to be able to clock up at least 2 hours before this. Has this anything to do with the system or the battery? I am planning to get a 12-cell replacement.

2) Suggesting that there is nothing wrong with the battery, are there any tweaks to the system or software which i can download to maximize the battery power?

3) How much would a replacement battery roughly cost? I don't think that buying from HP would be such a good idea just yet. If I can find a replacement in Low Yat, I wouldn't mind.

4) Will a battery's performance be affected by some "accident"? It fell off the battery slot once, because the lock was loose and the battery ended up a little dented. My battery still lasted 2 hours after that, but now, I don't know.

Thats all I need to know. Thank you.

Greek Catholic Services in Singapore

Dear Friends,

Archimandrite Father Serge Keleher of Dublin will be in Singapore from 20th to 25th September. As he will be in town for the Feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God (on the traditional Julian church calendar) and for the weekend, he will be celebrating a full cycle of services according to the Byzantine rite.

The schedule is as follows:

Thursday 20th September-Eve of the Feast:
Vigil at 7.00 p.m.

Friday 21st September-The Nativity of the Mother of God:
Hours and Divine Liturgy (Mass) at 7.00 p.m.

Saturday 22nd September:
Vigil at 6.00 p.m.

Sunday 23rd September:
Hours and Divine Liturgy (Mass) at 10 a.m.

Liturgy on Sunday naturally fulfils the Sunday obligation for those who are bound by it. This IS a Catholic Mass - Fr Serge is a Russian-rite Catholic Priest and these services are taking place with the blessing of His Grace, Bishop Peter Stasiuk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy
of Ss. Peter and Paul of Melbourne.

Vigil on the 20th and 22nd will be in a mix of languages, but Hours & Divine Liturgy on the 21st and 23rd will be mostly in English, with small amounts of Church-Slavonic, Greek, Romanian and possibly even Arabic.

For those who wish to know, services will have only such abbreviations are common in Russian parish practice. Music at Liturgy will mostly be that of the Russian Synodal School of the 19th Century, so with the exception of the use of English, the services will follow Russian Nikonian usage (with some elements of the Old Rite). Music at Vigil will be largely monophonic chant of various traditions - Znamenny, Court Chant, Galician, Serbian and Byzantine.

All Catholics who have observed the appropriate Communion Fast and are in a state of grace are welcome to receive Communion at both Liturgies. Orthodox Christians are of course more than welcome. Fr. Serge will be available to hear confessions before the services in English, Irish, Russian, Ukrainian and French. He will also be available to answer questions about the Christian East and Eastern Catholicism.

For those who are non-Christian or non-Catholic but interested in just witnessing the service(s), you are more than welcome to attend.

All services will be held at the Armenian Church of St Gregory the Illuminator, 60 Hill Street, Singapore.

For more information, please contact: Edward Yong (edward.yong@gmail.com, mobile +65 94244261) or Collin Michael Nunis (collin_nunis@yahoo.com, +60122745356). Please pass this information on to whomever you think might be interested.

For Malaysians who are interested to know more about Byzantine Catholicism, I would be more than pleased to meet with you.

Collin Michael Nunis

What Would You Like To See In Linux?

Linux has proven to be an equally competent, if not better operating system than the over-rated Windows platform. However, despite the credibility of Linux, there are just some things that we can't do on Linux but vice-versa on Windows, or even Mac. The new Vista OS looks great and will definitely put Microsoft up on its game, given its sophisticated look but will this spell the end for Linux?

So, for Linux to actually beat Microsoft (or even Mac, if you want to...) or to even come back in the game and now become Vista's ultimate competitor, what does Linux need? Is Fedora good enough? Is SuSe good enough? Is Ubuntu good enough? Or will there be some obscure Linux platform that people will need to customise to make sure this happens?

So, drop your thoughts here and make it count. If we can run Windows programmes (like my ever crucial Visio) on Linux, that would be great. Whaddya think? What would you like to see in Linux?

Information on Informatics

Hi, I'm new here... I'm thinking of transferring to another college to complete my IT diploma. Any opinions about the place which may be helpful in making my decision? At the moment, I'm looking at APIIT/UCTI or Informatics. Not much choice but these are my choices at the moment. Thanks.
