Daily Mail is NOT sos

I'd just like to say that in order to keep up the standards of /k, Daily mail should NEVER, EVER be used to back up statements and data. We're Malaysians, we're better than stooping this low. In fact, I think you'd be more credible if you said that you heard x from "kak ros di pasar malam tadi".

The Daily Mail has been subject of ridicule for a long time, and it's no mystery why. The articles they publish are stupid, racist, hate-mongering, childish and completely untrue and conflicting. Imagine: It's like Utusan, but includes a column that reports on the Kardashians' daily activities.

Here are samples of the headlines that this kind of newspaper publishes:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Look at them, and tell me how this is not some sort of parody of actual newspapers.

The Daily mail is also homophobic, points out Marina Hyde:
"In the past year's columns, Richard has referred 42 times to gays, 16 times to lesbians, 15 to homosexuals, eight to bisexuals, twice to 'homophobia' and six to being 'homophobic' (note his scornful inverted commas), five times to cottaging, four to 'gay sex in public toilets', three to poofs, twice to lesbianism, and once each to buggery, dykery, and poovery. This amounts to 104 references in 90-odd columns — an impressive increase on his 2003 total of 82 mentions. There is, alas, no space for us to revisit the scientific study which found obsessive homophobes more responsive to gay porn. But Richard, we're begging you: talk to someone."

Still believe that the Daily Mail is statistically/scientifically backed up? This is a link showing ALL the things that cause cancer according to the DM.

Two of its most controversial episodes were when Richard Littlejohn attacked the Yorkshire Ripper's victims, saying that, because they were prostitutes, their deaths were "no great loss."

Attacks the BBC endlessly, without ever mentioning that the Daily Mail group owns a major share in ITN, direct competitors with BBC News. Any bad news featuring anyone with even a remote connection with the BBC will always have BBC in the headline. However a BBC reporter who bravely defended a shop against rioters was reported without mentioning the BBC until the last paragraph. This is actually a good way of reading the Daily Mail. Read the headline and then skip to the last paragraph to see what the actual facts are and which contradict the rest of the story.

...And more interesting facts at http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/BritishNewspapers?from=Main.BritishNewspapers

And for your entertainment, the Daily mail song.

And if you really, really want to check it out for yourselves, here: Portal of Stupidity. How it is the most popular news portal online in the whole world is beyond me.

Malaysian opinion on Indonesia

Saya from an International School (sekolah antarabangsa), and quarter of the students are from Indonesia.

But the Indonesians there are very open minded. They say that the locals in Indo hate Malaysia because of the media, which is OVERLY-FREE- they get support from the ministers to lie about incidents in Malaysia that never happened before.

I'm okay with them personally, but of course, I really hate a few of those gila otak people wo go "GANYANG Malingsia" and all that. Those people are just really, really butthurt.
