Sata controller disappear from bios

I've been using nf7-s mobo since 2005 but never used sata harddisk until recently (after my pata drive died). After struggling to make sata drive known to bios and installing windows (and losing nearly 200gb worth of data, ), I finally enjoy the speediness of sata drive. Unfortunately, after 2 days, my pc hang and cannot boot to windows. it gives this error, "boot disk error please insert system disk and press enter" I checked in bios and found that no onboard pci device (to enable sata controller) listing in it. I tried flashing latest bios for this mobo (bios 27) but to no avail. Does this mean that my onboard sata controller die? Should I buy pci sata controller card or sell this drive and buy pata drive?

Please help.
