Please critique my new build

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of these specs. My budget this time, is between 4k and 5k. If you see any problems, or if you can see that I can get better value by buying other brands/parts please do post. I would like to hear your opinions.

Proc: i7-2500k
Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro
Gfx card: EVGA GTX 570
RAM: 2 * Kingston PC1333 4GB
PSU: Gigabyte 1.2kw Odin Pro (Too much? Would watercool + maybe SLi in the future)
CD/DVD Rom : Samsung/Asus
HSF: Noctua NH-D14

Do suggest me a case.. I prefer one that filters dust in the fans. I already have 2xRaptor X (150GB).. I'm thinking whether I should get an SSD or not.. Also thinking about Z68.

I believe the above (w/o case) will be around 4.1k, and my budget is between 4-5k. (excl. monitor/kb/mouse/software)

Thanks for your time!

I notice quite a big price difference between these two models.

I'm looking at Sapphire HD 6970 - RM 1199, and Gigabyte HD 6970 - RM 1399..

What advantages do I get by going with Gigabyte and paying 200 more?!

Warranty? Better build/cooler?

Edit: or ASUS HD 6970 @ RM 1299?

thanks

850W PSU

So I'm thinking of some specs and planning to buy the AX 850W Corsair. What I want is a PSU to last for a few upgrades.

- i7-2600k, will be OC'ing.
- Some random mobo
- 1-2 SSD
- 2 SATA HDD
- 2 sticks of 4 Gb RAM
- ** GTX 580, and will later add another card for SLi, and will upgrade again few years later. **
- Watercooled setup.
- ~6 case fans (120mm+)

So what wattage PSU should I be looking into? And are there better (read: cheaper with same/better performance ) alternatives to the Corsair AX850?

Edit-

Just used Antec PSU calculator, and it showed wattage around 847W!!

Performance/Value RAM

Hello!

Ok I'm starting to look for a PC for myself -- giving my intel c2e x6800 to my mum lol!!

Anyway, back in the old C2D days, I could understand paying for performance RAM as you wanted to have a 1:1 ratio between memory and RAM cycles. So with performance RAM you set the FSB to higher speeds, while maintaining the 1:1 ratio.

However now I realise that Sandy Bridge OC'ing is rather leaving the BLCK (DSB??) untouched at ~100 mhz, and then changing the multiplier for OC'ing. My question now is, why pay for the performance RAM??

Am I misunderstanding something? Please help me, thank you!!

Thinking of Budget PC Specs

Hello gurus.

I'm planning to buy a PC and I would like to spend a little as possible for it. I am set however on an i5-2500k. Please take a look at the specs that I'm thinking and recommend if you can help me get something with better longevity/scalability for the same price, or the same functions for a lesser price.

A couple of years ago I very foolishly went all out on a computer I bought and spent ~13-15k on it. I am now a lot wiser and want to spend ~2k for a new PC. I will be taking a few spare parts from my old PC (2x Raptor X).

I'm looking at:

Proc: it-2500k (RM 655)
Mobo: ASUS P8H67-M LE (RM 349)
RAM: 2* Kingston PC1066 2GB (RM 120) == Maybe get 2 sticks of 4GB.
PSU: 750W Corsair (RM 600)
CD/DVD-RW (RM 70)
Case - Cheap case (RM100)

Total: RM ~1894

I'm getting the H67 chipset and foregoing a graphics card for the moment - I have just started work and wouldn't have time for games for these few months

Q:
- Looking at the 750W corsair, want to reuse for future computer builds. I will never go down the SLI route. Is this too good/expensive?
- How is the ASUS P8H67-M LE for OC. May run a mild OC to start with, prob nothing major.
- Should I invest more into performance RAM?

Thanks for all your help!!

Problems starting computer

Hey fellas.

Last year (Dec 06) I built a computer and everything was running fine for the first 7-8 months. One day after I switched my computer off, and tried to restart it, it wouldn't start. - System starts, I hear the fan of my gfx card spin up and the monitor remains blank.

Now normally, when it starts, the graphics cards' fan spins really fast, then it slows down (I can tell by its noise). However when it fails to start, the gfx card fan just continues to spin really quick, without slowing down.

In order to get my computer to start, I would have to take the battery out of the mobo, wait for 10 secs etc, put it back in, and when I start my computer, it would start normally (then reconfigure cmos bla bla bla).

Now the problem is that it happens whenever I shut my computer down totally. Each time the power to the computer goes off, I would have to take the battery out (reset cmos) for it to start normally after that. However, if I do not shut my computer down, but instead leave it on standby mode, everything's fine when I start it back up from standby.

I just took my computer apart to check to see whether there could be any connections which weren't right. I assembled it, and I had the same problems.

< Take battery out>

Start Computer.
Computer starts perfectly.

<shutdown computer>

Start Computer.
Computer fails to start. (graphics card fan spins really fast and fails to 'slow down').

In order to get it to start, I would have to take the battery out of the mobo.

MOBO : P5W DH Deluxe.
Graphics Card : Geforce 7900 Gtx.

Appreciate any help

Yes, my heart beats per min ranges from 90 - 105 (rested on a couch for 5 mins b4 hand, at night. I took it just now, using a bloodpressure machine. Throughout my life, I have been told that it's on the fast side.

When I do cardio, it shoots up to 180+, where the machine starts giving me alarming signals "HIGH HEARTBEAT!!!!" lol. I go on the glider, 130rpm, at level 10. I'm 19 years old, nearly 20.

Does anyone know whats wrong? and can I bring it down by continously over a period of months do cardio?

ty! =D

Edit:

I am 177cm, 73Kg =), if that matters.

My shit, after working out

Okay, lol, first things first, this is a completely serious topic , I'm not joking lol.
I hope I don't disgust you guys by describing in detail about shait =D.

Yes, recently (about two weeks ago) I started working out at the local gym. I have realised that whenever I work out, my shit would be hard. No, not constipation, but it's pretty well formed, with the sides smoooooth as! I don't think its the lack of water that makes the shit like that, cos I do drink a lot of water. On days which I don't go to the gym, my shit goes back to being soft (still formed tho). Anyone know why? It's got me really curious!

Okay 2nd question.

I'm really free now (on like a 6 month holiday) and so I thought this would be a great time to get fitter, as I have nothing else to do. So I have been going almost everyday to the gym (minus 1 - 2 days). I've heard (and read here, at lowyatfitness) that it's good to take a (one day?) break every time you work out? Well I've been going pretty often but the funny thing is, I don't seem to get stiff at all after a couple of hours post-workout (not to mention the next day) So I end up going to the gym almost everyday and lifting weights.

Maybe I don't lift much, that's why I don't get stiff - I work with (6kg) dumbells, and I do 3 sets of 15-20 reps.

3x 20 (6kg weights) - lying flat on the bench, working my chest,
3x 20 (6kg weights) - bench incline at 45* (working chest?)
3x 20 (6kg weights) - sitting straight up on the bench (this one working shoulders I think, if I rmbr right)

3x 20 (6kg) bicep curls
3x 20 (15kg) triceps rope curl

After doing those (especially the first 3 exercises) my arms feel d.e.a.d!!! tired, and it'll be a lil sore for 1-2 hours after that, and it'll be fine (like I didn't go to the gym at all hahahaha).

So, basically...
-) Am I not sore because I'm not lifting enough weights? Or do I recover really quick?
-) Would it be okay to go to the gym everyday, working out till my arms are dead tired (but then I'm still not sore the next day).

I'm 19 now, I remember when I was 17, I went to the gym for 3 months. At that time, I was living overseas and so I was not eating much and not eating well, and I remember that I'd be sore for daysss after my workout, unlike what I'm experiencing now.

I don't take any shakes or suppliments, however I do eat a lot of Salmon.. I have it everyday for dinner, quite a big chunk too.

Thx guys! hope I didn't disgust too much, with my shit

So yeah... let's say I have two adsl lines, both running at 2 Mbps. Would it be possible to connect the two lines to one computer, to have speeds of 4 Mbps?

i.e. Two ethernet cards, or 1 network card + wireless.

If it's possible, how would I configure them?

Thx fer ya help =)
